Chapter 7: Leslie’s Birthday Gift
“I changed my mind. I don’t want to divorce for the time being,” Elise answered after thinking for a few seconds.
“I see. We’ll cancel it for your then, Ms. Houry.”
The other party ended the call.
Elise turned to look at Robin in silence. A moment later, she said, “You’ve heard what I said. Only for the time being. You must go home with me today.”
Before Robin answered, she walked forward.
“Sure,” Robin replied, following her.
Elise left the company and entered a bakery. She bought a cake, sat in her car, and headed home. Of course, Robin followed suit. At the door, Robin asked, “Why did you buy the birthday cake?”
“Leslie turns six today. I didn’t plan to let you get involved because you didn’t deserve to be a father. But Leslie does need a father figure in her life. You are only allowed to be her father today.”
Elise still looked stern, walking into the villa.
No matter if Robin had taken away all the money and properties, he left her without saying farewell seven years ago and never returned. Elise couldn’t forgive him.
“Leslie is six...”
Robin couldn’t help trembling. He had to admit that he didn’t deserve to be a father. It had been seven years, and his daughter had turned six. However, he had never participated in her birthdays.
Robin also entered the villa. However, he didn’t only see Elise’s parents and Leslie in the living room but also met a man in a suit. He wore a Rolex watch, looking like an elite.
“How dare you return here, Robin Bailey!”
Karen looked unkind once she saw Robin.
“So, you are Robin Bailey, the beggar? I heard you made a decision on Elise’s behalf yesterday and made her lose 10% of the company shares. How dare you return to this house!”
The man in a suit stood up, staring at Robin in disdain. Then he walked to Elise. “Elise, if I were you, I would kick this bastard out. If you’re unwilling to do it, I can do it for you.”
As he spoke, the man rolled up his sleeves, ready to teach Robin a lesson.
“Stop it, Reginald!” Elise stopped him.
“Elise, he deliberately made you lose your shares. He’s just a loser. Why are you still so kind to him? You should kick him out. Or I can call the police now and sue him for harassment. He’ll be detained for at least half a month.”
Scorn was written all over Reginald Lucas’ face.
However, Elise explained, “I didn’t lose my shares. I won the bet. I also reentered the board of directors. Robin helped me. He’s our guest today.”
“What did you say?”
Elise’s parents and the man named Reginald were shocked.
Especially Reginald. He had a crush on Elise and always wanted to gain her heart. Earlier, he had thought Robin was good for nothing. Much to his surprise, Robin helped Elise win the bet.
Elise explained what had happened in detail.
After that, Reginald breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at Robin in mockery, he snorted, “Humph! You relied on another man’s power and let him return the favor. After that, he’ll never help you again.”
“I thought you’d become influential. It turned out you were still the loser like before. Well, you are more foolish now. How could you have used the favor in such a way? No wonder you were homeless before.”
Karen looked down on Robin more after hearing her daughter’s words.
Everyone knew how valuable a person’s favor was. However, Robin had spent it on this matter. She thought he was indeed stupid.
“Alas...”
Elise’s father rubbed his forehead upon hearing their words.
However, Elise didn’t remark as she knew Robin used it because she had been in trouble yesterday. The thought sent warmth to her chest, but she had to admit it was a stupid move.
Elise glanced around the living room but didn’t see Leslie. She knocked on the bedroom door but received no response.
“Leslie, come out. Let’s celebrate your birthday.”
Then she entered. Leslie cried out, “Mom... I finally found Dad... Please don’t divorce... Please!”
Soon, she stopped weeping.
Elise took her hand and took her into the living room. The adorable girl was still wearing an old dress, her eyes reddish. However, seeing Robin, she broke free of Elise’s hand and threw herself in Robin’s arms. “Dad, I miss you so much... Boohoo...”
“I miss you, too, sweetheart.”
Robin’s eyes became tender. He rubbed her hair, his heart softening.
“Damn it!”
Reginald watched the scene, his eyes sparking fires. He had been pursuing Elise long, repeatedly fawning over Leslie by buying her many gifts. However, Leslie always refused him and turned him down. She even ignored him.
However, Leslie treated Robin kindly and lovingly.
“All right. Stop crying. Let’s eat the cake,” Elise reminded Robin and Leslie.
They let Leslie make a wish and cut the cake. Leslie closed her eyes and said, “I hope Dad and Mom will never part. This is my birthday wish.”
Her words sent different expressions to everyone’s face.
Elise’s parents looked awkward.
Reginald looked ferocious. If Elise and Robin were together, what would he do? However, he hid the expression the next second.
After eating the cake, Reginald pulled out a gift box and said to Leslie with a bright smile, “Leslie dear, this is my gift to you.”
Then he opened the box, and a blue light sparkled.
“This is... a blue diamond?”
After seeing what was in the box, Karen brought a hand to cover her mouth in shock. It was a small necklace with a tiny blue diamond.
Although small, the blue diamond was valuable, at least ten times more expensive than a regular diamond.
“You are right, Mrs. Houry. This is a blue diamond from the top jewelry company, LV & Co. It’s under the Blue Heart series of ASD. Each necklace could soothe the person who wears it and help her sleep well,” Reginald explained triumphantly.
“I’ve heard of the series before. It’s said each necklace costs at least 120,000 dollars. Thank you so much, Reginald. Elise, look. Reginald returned from abroad after gaining a master’s degree. He’s young and competent, managing three companies. He’s also the heir of Lucas Corporation. Isn’t he much more outstanding than the loser next to you?”
Karen’s eyes were full of joy. Despite Robin being in the living room, she repeatedly insulted him and tried to bring her daughter up with Reginald.
“Robin, where is your gift to Leslie? You should have prepared one, haven’t you? Or you lacked the money to buy one?”
Reginald looked at Robin in scorn.
“What kind of gift can he get? He’s homeless, poor, and good for nothing. Buying a gift? Does he have money to buy a gift?” Karen mocked.
However, Robin rubbed a necklace on his neck and took it off.
Passing it to Leslie, he said, “Leslie, this necklace prevented me from being shot once. Keep it.”
