Chapter 3: My Daughter

In the villa, Leslie hid in Elise’s arms, watching the scene in fear.

Elise’s parents wanted to sell her.

“I agree with Mr. Granger’s proposal. He’s wealthy and from an influential family. His son has been known as a genius since he was young. It should be a great benefit for Leslie to call Mr. Granger Father.”

A mid-aged woman in a plushy dress sat on the chair, seemingly the hostess of the family.

She was Elise’s mother, Karen Johnson.

She was the person who made the decision this time after Lands Corporation encountered difficulties. They lacked the capital and needed investment. However, they failed to get the investment quickly, and John Granger’s company was the only exception.

However, John had a condition. He wanted Leslie to be his goddaughter and his son's child bride.

Karen didn’t refuse at all. The Houry family always thought Leslie was a bastard. If it weren’t for Robin, their family wouldn’t have become so miserable, and Leslie wouldn’t have been born.

Karen was more than happy to let John take Leslie.

“Exactly. You’ve made a wise choice.”

John laughed so hard that his face wrinkled, looking at Leslie and Elise. Lust flashed through his eyes. Elise had attracted a lot of men’s attention in Stillwater.

She had a perfect appearance. In the past, she had a lot of admirers. Even though she had a daughter, she was still beautiful, and countless men wished to get her.

If Leslie could move to his house, John believed he would gain Elise’s heart shortly after.

However, Elise stood protectively in front of Leslie and refused, “I cannot let you take Leslie. Give up, John Granger!’

Let alone if John would treat Leslie well, John’s son was born a simpleton. He was less than 10 but weight over 220 pounds. No matter what, she would never harm Leslie.

Leslie was her daughter.

“Give up? Elise, you’d better stop being so selfish. Humph!”

Suddenly, a young man’s voice sounded out upstairs. Wearing a tailored suit, the young man walked downstairs, followed by a mid-aged man.

“David Houry!”

Elise scowled at the young man.

David Houry was her cousin, the current master of the Houry family.

“Elise, you are arrogant because of your father, aren’t you? Think your father will always take your side, right? However, our family is in its critical moment now. You’ve made such a huge mistake and nearly ruined Lands Corporation. Don’t you think you should make up for us?”

David looked righteous.

Then Elise’s father, Rodney Houry, who followed David downstairs, heaved a sigh. “Elise, let them take Leslie. We need the investment for the lack of capital. You owe the Houry family.”

“Dad!”

Elise stared at her father in disbelief.

‘Owe the Houry family?’

In the past, the Houry family was just a minor family. Elise established the famous Lands Corporation to help the family develop. Later, after that incident, the family kicked her out of the company's management team and made her an employee.

It was her mistake, and Elise didn’t mind it.

However, Lands Corporation belonged to her. If it weren’t for her, the Houry family wouldn’t have developed well as it is today. After they took over the company and something was wrong, they pushed the blames on her.

They reminded her that she owed the family and asked her to make it up.

For that ridiculous reason, she was asked to sacrifice her only daughter.

“Elise, this is just a bastard. She shouldn’t be in our house anyway. Let them take her. Your grandfather promised I would become the family master once the investment arrived.”

With disgust, Rodney looked at Leslie behind Elise.

‘Bastard!’

Their family wouldn't have become a branch if it weren’t for Leslie and her dickhead father.

“Dad... You!”

Elise’s heart tightened. She didn’t know what to do.

However, suddenly a man’s voice sounded, “She’s my daughter. Don’t you ever think of laying a finger on her!”

“What?”

Everyone was shocked.

Robin entered the house. After he stopped mid-step, others burst into laughter. David mocked, “Jesus! It turned out to be you, beggar! Didn’t you leave town to beg in other places? Now you’ve failed and returned?”

“It’s you. How dare you come back!”

Elise’s parents looked at Robin unkindly.

They disliked Leslie because of her father. They blamed Robin for every bad thing happening to their family.

Therefore, after Robin and Elise married, Karen took away Elise’s dowry and money and slandered Robin for borrowing her 20,000 dollars. This matter ruined Robin’s image in Elise’s heart.

“Oops... I rang the bell. I’ve heard about you before. You used to be a beggar. I heard you wandered in different cities. Are you poor again? Need me to give you some money?’ John chuckled.

He had thought a competitor had shown up. It turned out to be a homeless man.

Robin became homeless because of the Bailey family from the capital. His mother was severely sick, and he was too young at that time. Therefore, he had to beg the Bailey family. However, they kicked him out again, and his mother passed away because of the sickness. Robin became a beggar on the street.

“What are you doing here?”

Elise looked at Robin unkindly.

“Dad... Dad...”

Unlike others, Leslie broke free from Elise’s hand and pounced at Robin. Rubbing her lovely cheeks against his legs, she said, “Dad. I have a father. I don’t want that bad man to be my father.”

“Good girl.”

Robin rubbed Leslie’s hair, his eyes tender. Then he emanated a superior, proud, and noble aura and said to Elise, “I’m here to help you today. I can resolve your capital problem.”
