The silence in the school was close to a graveyard silence. Even the always noisy SS2B was quiet as no one dared make a sound. The teacher on duty, infamously known as “Dracular” among the students was the one on duty for supervision of the Friday afternoon prep. Almost every student was scared of him and even if you were borrowed all the courage of the whole school altogether; you still wouldn’t dare to annoy him.

The school had stopped extra lessons for the SS3 students and while everyone had extra lessons; they had afternoon preps with different teachers supervising them. Toyin adjusted her glasses on her nose as she read her biology textbook. Test started the very next week and she hadn’t read that much.

Before she used to read so hard and try to overtake Femi, but it was more like the first position was designed for him. No matter how hard she read, she was always ranked second. Toyin stopped trying to overtake him after he started treating her like trash. She as well retained the second position and as for SSS2B, the first and second position became a fixed one.

Toyin’s eyes darted once in a while to Femi but his head was buried in his book and not even once did he glance upwards. He looked extra cool just sitting there scribbling in his jotter. Toyin winced as she turned back to her book.

“Did you say anything to Femi?” Rebecca asked as they walked back to the hostel after the afternoon prep.

“Why?” Toyin asked.

“He hasn’t disturbed you since” Rebecca replied as Toyin pursed her lips.

“I should be grateful” Toyin said as they walked into the dining hall. Toyin was supposed to be a prefect, the Senior Prefect girl but seeing that Femi was the Senior Prefect Boy; she had rejected it without batting an eyelid.

If she wanted to reduce how Femi mistreated her, she needed to first shorten the way the meet. Rebecca was the current Assistant Sports Prefect girl. Toyin frowned when Emmanuel waved at her from the prefects table. Peter also winked at her as Toyin frown deepened. Those were Femi’s best friends; was Femi up to something again?

Was this some form of prank again?

Femi had pulled too many hurtful pranks in the past. Sometimes she got hurt physically but all the time she got hurt mentally. Toyin prayed in her heart for Femi not to have carried her food. She was really hungry and famished as the reading had fapped all her energy. Toyin got to her table and one of them pushed her plate of food to her.

Toyin heaved a sigh of relief as she scooped a spoon of rice into her mouth. It had been a while since she ate the school food. She devoured it hungrily and almost asked for more from Rebecca but she knew better because Rebecca wouldn’t give her. The girl almost preferred food over her friends if not for courtesy sake
