Eight
Friday nights were free as you could do anything you like. As usual in SS2B, they were singing and drumming.
Baby wait for me,
Would you stay with me?
No regret baby o,
Like a solider would you fight for me.
I can’t take your pain away,
But I can make you feel better,
If you stay another day,
Stay another day,
We can do it together,
From sundown to sun up,
We go walk the walk together,
We go do the do forever,
Baby wait for me oh!
Toyin slowly moved her head according to the beat. She liked Teni’s songs a lot. She mouthed along with her classmates and continued reading her Biology textbook. Years of staying with her classmates had taught her how to read conveniently in a noisy place.
Toyin flipped the next page of her biology textbook as her min went to Rebecca’s previous words. Her eyes swept through the class and landed on where Femi was sitting. A frown marred his handsome face as he scribbled in his jotter and frowned again. He turned to the back of his textbook and Toyin quickly guessed he was having problems with some of the questions.
Why isn’t he talking to me?
Toyin wondered as her eyes went to Femi again. He hadn’t said a word ever since the novel incidence. Inwardly, Toyin was grateful and at the same time, she missed the smell of his cologne waffling into her nose.
“What are you thinking about?” Rebecca asked.
“I think Femi is up to something again” Toyin replied as she wore a helpless expression.
“Why?” Rebecca asked as Toyin pursed her lips.
“Didn’t you say it by yourself? He hasn’t said a word to me since. He didn’t take my food this evening and now he’s acting like I don’t exist” Toyin replied as Rebecca sighted.
“Really. I just hope he’s not up to something worse because he’s gotten a lot worse these days” Rebecca replied as Toyin shuddered.
She tried to think about what kind of prank Femi was going to come up with but at the end, she couldn’t think of anything. Femi was naturally an irrational being, he always did the unexpected. Toyin quietly prayed he wasn’t planning something big.
“And what’s with Emmanuel, he’s being smiling at you since, what’s going on?” Rebecca asked.
Toyin glanced towards where the male was seating and turned to Rebecca back before shaking her head.
“That’s exactly why I’m scared Femi I sup to something. I mean his two best friends suddenly started acting nice to me. Greeting me, smiling at me and even tried to play jokes with me” Toyin replied as Rebecca wore a bewildered expression as she chuckled.
“You don’t mean it” Rebecca said as Toyin hissed and rolled her eyes.
“In any way I hope they realize that they are scaring the hell out of me and who even knows if that’s their whole point. Scare me into some kind of crazy shell” Toyin replied as Rebecca rubbed the back of her best friend comforting her.
“Hopefully, it will be nothing like that” Rebecca said as Toyin offered her a light smile.
“Hopefully” Toyin replied as she glanced at where Femi was seated again.
