Chapter 11

I got out of the shower and put on my pajamas. Coming out of the bathroom, I saw Wendy staring at me with a funny look.

-Did you see how Hunter looked at Nathan when he was near you? she asked me.

I remembered it very well. so I nodded.

-He was crazy jealous! I’m sure he’s gutting her right now,” she laughed.

-Don't go too far, though, I laughed.

- No, but it's true!

-Still, I wouldn't get involved in that nonsense...

-Bullshit? You say love is rubbish? she suddenly got angry.

-Yeah, if you fly too high and you fall, the fall will be fatal. Correction: It's screwing up everything, you're not the you you used to be, I tell him.

Maybe I had pissed her off... Love seemed to mean a lot to her. And there, she wanted to strangle me because I had burst her bubble.

-We'd better go to bed, I tell him to relax the atmosphere.

-Yeah, good idea.

I had to watch out for Wendy because the full moon was tonight and I wouldn't want to get in her way under any circumstances. She may have been my friend, but she was unpredictable. Luckily for me, Melissa had asked all the Weres in the camp to join her in the dining hall. Probably to warn them and to give advice to newcomers.

I took a seat on the rock, the one where I had jumped into the lake water the other evening, and took my phone out of my pockets. I wrote a message to my dad to let him know I was okay. This morning I forgot to do it. He asked me when we got here, just before Melissa asked us to go inside. But before I could hit the send button, my phone started ringing, it just so happened to be my dad.

-Hi dad, I was just writing to you.

-Ah OK. SO ? How's it going ? he asked me.

Oh very good dad! i learned that i am a shapeshifter and i can transform into any animal but i still need some practice because yesterday i wanted to become a cat but some guy messed up so I found myself as a mouse, in the claws of an eagle! My roommate is a werewolf and she's really pissed because tonight is a full moon. So I'm probably going to die tonight, I love you!

That was the truth, but I didn't want to end up in a psychiatric hospital. So, I was content with the simplest possible.

-It's going very well, I've made new friends and we have a good laugh. It's a nice place.

-I am happy to hear that.

Then there was a heavy silence.

- Otherwise, how's your congress? I asked.

-Yes, lots of meetings, but apart from that the hotel is fine.

-OK.

Silence again.

-Well, I have to go, a meeting is waiting for me, goodbye sweetie.

-Bye.

He hung up. I closed my phone and turned my head towards the lake. Lost in my thoughts.

I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around, sure I recognized the person, but no. I hadn't seen her yet.

"Hi," she said shyly.

She was blonde, wore glasses and wasn't too tall.

"Hi," I replied. I haven't seen you at camp yet, are you new?

She nodded. I felt less alone.

-Like me, I smiled. Come and sit down.

Finally someone who should be in the same situation as me. She took a seat next to me and also stared at the lake. According to her eyes, she was a fairy.

-What do you think about it ? She finally asked me.

-It's hard to digest, but I'm getting used to it, and you?

-Like, being a fairy isn't so bad, I can communicate with animals and heal wounds that aren't too deep.

-Cool, I smiled.

-Are you going to see the weres this evening?

-I don't know, it scares me a little.

-Just now, I told myself that if there was news there, that I was going to go there too.

-So we should go, right? I said.

-Yeah okay, besides, I heard that it was something to see at least once in your life if you are a supernatural.

-Yeah, do you want to have dinner with me this afternoon? My roommate is unbearable today and I don't want to be alone.

-Why not, besides, that was why I went to see you. I had a little trouble fitting in and I told myself that with a new one it would be better.

We talked about everything and nothing until dinner, where we ate together. Then we mentally prepared ourselves for tonight.

Full moon.

I left the refectory, accompanied by Chloe. The fairy from earlier. We were heading for the trail when I remembered that I had left my laptop at the bungalow. I thought filming a Were could be cool. But of course, I wasn't going to post that on social media.

-I forgot to go get something from my bungalow, go on without me, I'll join you, I tell him.

She nodded then continued on her way.

Upon entering my bungalow, I grabbed my phone and stepped outside. The night was dark and the full moon was hidden by clouds, for now.

I was too preoccupied with imagining catastrophic scenarios in my head that I noticed, a little too late, that I had taken the wrong path. I didn't recognize any of the decor at all. I wanted to turn around, but a deer passed near me, which made me fall.

I should have stayed in my bungalow.

I stood up and lost my sense of direction. I was now lost in the middle of the night in a forest where soon there will be plenty of Weres chasing me.

I saw absolutely nothing!

Fortunately, as I thought about it, I regained my composure by remembering that I was a shapeshifter. There were several animals that could see in the dark, such as a wolf. He had night vision and could run quickly if something happened, as well as defend himself.

I focused on what Hunter had told me about the transformation.

“Put yourself in the animal’s shoes.”

I then imagined myself in the skin of a white wolf, white fur, four legs and a muzzle.

I looked at my feet which now looked like paws. Also, my vision had greatly improved! My transformation hadn't messed up this time. I hope everything will be fine to return to my initial appearance when this is over.

Now I was hoping there weren't any weres around. But if there was one? What if he just spotted me and was jumping to grab me?

I turned around after hearing a branch crack and saw it. A big wolf on its two hind legs getting ready to jump on me.
