Selena Pov
The hallway was quite narrow, so we ended up facing each other. We were both surprised for a moment, but then he fixed his clothes and said, "Ms. Reece, I'm here to help Camilla."
Kane was Alpha Valdo's best friend. They say a person's best friend can show you how much they care about you.
But the way he addressed me made it clear that he saw me only as Ms. Reece.
It was a polite but distant way of speaking.
I didn't dwell on it too much because it would only make me sad. I forced a smile and let him go ahead, saying, "Sure, go ahead!"
Sometimes I really admired Camilla. She only had to shed a few tears to receive the warmth that I had worked hard for my whole life but never received.
In the bedroom, I found a suit that Alpha Valdo had never worn. I decided to bring it with me as I walked to the living room.
Kane quickly took care of Camilla. He checked her temperature and gave her medicine before getting ready to leave.
When he came downstairs and saw me in the living room, he smiled politely and said, "It's getting late. Aren't you going to sleep, Ms. Reece?"
"Mm, I'll sleep soon." I handed him the clothes and said, "Your clothes are wet, and it's still raining outside. You should change into these before you leave, or you might catch a cold."
He seemed surprised by my gesture and blinked at me for a moment. Then, he smiled and said, "It's okay. I'm strong as a bull, so I'll be fine!"
I handed him the clothes and insisted, "Alpha Valdo has never worn these before. The tags are still on them. You two are almost the same size, so please take them."
After that, I went upstairs and returned to the bedroom.
My actions weren't just out of kindness. When my grandmother was in the hospital, Kane was her surgeon. He was a famous doctor. If it weren't for the Fullers, he wouldn't have agreed to operate on my grandmother. Those clothes were my way of repaying him.
The next day arrived.
After a night of heavy rain, the morning air smelled fresh and earthy. I was used to waking up early. After washing up, I went downstairs and saw Alpha Valdo and Camilla in the kitchen.
Alpha Valdo was wearing a black apron and frying eggs on the stove. He no longer seemed harsh and distant. Instead, he looked happy and full of joy.
Camilla's bright eyes followed his every move. Her face was a little flushed, probably because her fever had just gone down. She looked cute and charming.
"Alpha Valdo, I want my fried eggs slightly burnt," she said, feeding him a strawberry. "But not too burnt, or they'll taste bitter."
Alpha Valdo ate the strawberry and looked at her lovingly. He didn't say anything, but his eyes showed how much he adored her.
They both had beautiful features and made a lovely couple.
Suddenly, a voice from behind startled me. I turned around and saw Kane standing there. I had forgotten that it rained heavily last night, and since Camilla was sick, Alpha Valdo didn't let Kane leave.
"Good morning!" I smiled when I noticed that Kane was wearing the clothes I gave him the night before.
Seeing my gaze, Kane raised his eyebrows and smiled. "These clothes fit me well. Thank you."
I shook my head. "No need to mention it!" I had bought those clothes for Alpha Valdo, but he never bothered to try them on.
Hearing us talking, Camilla turned to us and said, "Selena, Kane, you're both awake. Alpha Valdo made some fried eggs for breakfast. Come and eat with us!"
She spoke as if she were the lady of the house.
I gave her a fake smile and quickly declined, "It's fine. I bought some bread and milk yesterday. The milk is still in the fridge. You've just recovered, so you should drink more." I had been living here for two years, and the house deed had both my and Alpha Valdo's names on it.
I usually went along with things, but I couldn't bear to see someone else act like they owned the place.
