Selena Pov
I knew it was impossible to convince him to stay, but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I looked him in the eye and said, "I agree to a divorce, but I have a condition. Stay with me tonight and come with me to Grandpa's funeral. I'll sign the divorce papers right after."
He narrowed his eyes, filled with amusement, and his mouth twitched a bit. "You're trying to please me," he said, pulling away and leaning close to whisper in my ear. "But just talking won't get you anywhere, Selena."
His voice was cold and challenging. I understood what he meant, so I wrapped my arms around his waist and leaned in closer. It must have looked funny since he was much taller than me.
I didn't know how I felt about resorting to such a desperate tactic to keep someone I loved with me. It felt pathetic, to be honest.
Before I could make a move, he grabbed my hand and stopped me. He looked at me with stern eyes and said, "That's enough."
His flat tone surprised me, and I struggled to understand his words. He grabbed his pajamas from the bed and quickly put them on.
I was bewildered for a moment, trying to process what was happening. Was he actually going to stay?
Unfortunately, before I could even feel relief or happiness, a woman's voice echoed outside the window amidst the rain. "Alpha Valdo..."
He reacted quickly, striding towards the balcony to look outside. With a somber expression, he grabbed his coat and left the room.
Camilla was standing in the rain beneath the balcony. The cold drops had soaked her thin dress completely. She was already fragile, and she looked even more pitiful as she braved the rain.
Alpha Valdo draped his coat over her shoulders and seemed about to scold her. But she clung to him tightly and sobbed in his arms.
As I watched the scene unfold, it finally dawned on me. I understood why my two-year marriage with Alpha Valdo couldn't compare to a single phone call from Camilla.
Alpha Valdo led Camilla inside the Castle with his arm around her. I stood at the top of the stairs as they approached, noticing their soaked clothes.
"Move out of the way!" Alpha Valdo snapped, disgusted.
Was I sad?
I couldn't tell, but my eyes hurt more than my heart as I witnessed the person I loved treating another woman like a precious gem while trampling all over me.
"Alpha Valdo, you promised Grandpa that you wouldn't let her set foot in this house as long as I'm here." This was our home, where Alpha Valdo and I lived together. But many nights, I had let Camilla have him. And now, he was letting her taint the only place that belonged to me.
"Hah!" Alpha Valdo sneered, shoving me aside. He said coldly, "You think too highly of yourself, Selena."
He mocked me without mercy. I could only watch as he took Camilla to the guest room, feeling like a helpless bystander.
Tonight was going to be a restless night.
Camilla had gotten drenched in the heavy rain. She was already weak, and now she had a high fever. Alpha Valdo cared for her gently, helping her change into dry clothes and using a towel to bring down her temperature.
Maybe my presence was bothering him, because he turned his cold gaze towards me and ordered, "Go back to the Fullers' family home now! Camilla can't go anywhere in her condition."
He wanted me to leave at this late hour? Haha...
I guess I really am a bother.
After staring at Alpha Valdo for a while, I couldn't find the words to remind him that the family home was far away and it wouldn't be safe for a woman to go alone at this hour.
But he didn't care about that. He only cared about making sure Camilla could rest without me around.
I forced myself to breathe through the pain in my chest and calmly said, "I'll go back to the bedroom. It's not... appropriate to go to the family home now!"
I wouldn't let him walk all over me, even though I knew he didn't value me at all.
As I left the guest room, I bumped into Kane Jeffery in the hallway. He was still wearing his black pajamas, and I guessed he had rushed over to the Castle. His clothes were almost completely soaked.
