How About Lunch Together?
Junes woke up lazily wondering if he had overslept. He was shocked to see it was 1PM already. He could only care less. It is a Saturday after all. He dialled the cook's number on the ground floor through the telecom, "Ray, can you please prepare some good lunch for two and pack it for me. Make sure it is enough and super delicious. I think 3-4 dishes will be fine. Please get it ready by 2pm maximum. I need to take the lunch to my friend's place."
"Yes Sir. Don't worry. I will get everything ready before 2pm itself."
"Thank You."
A sly smile spread across his face but his mood was instantly down by a call from Mona. "Hey darling, did you just wake up?"
Junes's frowned hearing the word darling. He spoke coldly, "I am your boss. So, you should behave and address me as Mr. Cleveward just like other employees."
"Come on. I am more than an employee to you. I know this."
He cut her in between, "You are in office just because of the partial favorism from my grandpa. That is all. Otherwise, you have no talent to be in the position in the company that you are today. Do not forget that."
"You do not have the power to fire me anyway. You have only fifty percent right. So, I suggest marry me and you get all hundred percent right over the company."
"I rather die. You don't match ny standard Mona. So, just cut the crap and don't spoil my weekend."
He cut the phone without listening to her any further. She was angry for his treatment towards her. She decided to go to his grandpa's place to complain about him and suggest him that he allows his grandson to marry her. On the other hand, Junes get ready in simple casual attire and checked on his hairstyle again and again. He went down after being satisfied with his look and Ray was already ready with the lunch box packed for two.
He was impressed by Ray's efficiency. He still had ten minutes left to 2pm and in another fifteen minutes, he should reach his destiny. He decided to drive himself and told the driver to take rest back at home. He was surprised again. He never gave him leave by choice. He remembers convincing him a hundred times for even a day off. He didn't dare to ask him any questions but obeyed him.
He placed the lunch boxes in the seat next to the driver's seat. He was smiling at himself and he drove keeping the smile on. He was feeling weird at the thought that he was visiting Friya. It was not difficult for him to pay three months rent in advance to the security guard and telling his name to find her apartment number. He grew impatient in the lift as it seemed to take an hour to reach the third floor.
It didn't take him too long to stand outside the door. He seemed nervous and set his hair one last time. He was shaking as he pressed the door bell switch. Friya on the other hand was placing all the vegetables to cut for salad. She just took a shower and was in the kitchen preparing lunch. The door bell surprised her. She was wondering who might be at the door. She opened the door slowly and she saw the man she never wanted to see ever again.
"Mr Cleveward, what are you doing here?"
"Won't you call me in?"
"No. I mean I think you are at the wrong place. Are you lost?"
"You refused to have lunch with me and so, I brought us lunch. We can have together."
"I am sorry Mr. Cleveward. I don't think I would be comfortable having lunch with my boss."
"This is your house. I am a guest. Not your boss since we are not in office. Please let me in? We can argue inside your house."
She was embarrassed. She opened the door wide and gestured to come in. As he scanned through the house, he noticed the vegetables on the table in the kitchen. "Oh so I came at the right time. I brought food from home. We can eat that. You don't have to cook."
He placed the lunch boxes on the table and washed his hands. He took out the plates from the shelf as if it was his own house. Friya stood there in shock and watched him serve the food on the plates. It felt like as if she was the guest and he is the owner of the house. "Excuse me Mr. Cleveward. You are a stranger. I don't prefer unknown people here." She spoke astonishingly.
"I am a stranger but you know my name." He winked at her and gestured her to join him. She slowly walked up to the table and sat next to him. She suddenly seemed to lose appetite. As they began to eat, she asked, "Why are you here?"
"Like I said, you refused lunch yesterday, so I came over.
"How did you find my place of residence?"
"Don't you fill up the form of your current residence in the employee agreement form?"
"Oh ok. I am surprised that a CEO has so much time to scan my address."
He gulped down his saliva out of nervousness. He is feeling guilty of saying that. Now she is teasing him and questioning his busy schedule. He is wondering if he should confess that he followed her last night after office. He would invite more humiliation if he mentions about it and might even scare her.
"Don't think too much. It's just a lunch together."
"Yes of course. The CEO of Cleveward's Group just visited my house and eating lunch with an ordinary employee like me."
"Irony is the lady who is lucky to have lunch with me is too cold to my kind treatment."
Hearing his mockery, her eyebrows twitched and she looked at him with anger. She replied, "What do you want from me? I am not stupid. You are a businessman and I am sure you are here for some business. You can talk."
He was actually clueless why he insisted upon having lunch. To top it all, he is not missing any chance of showing his right over her house. He seems to be in good mood and little he knows why so. He has an intention of knowing her just to know if she will be the right candidate for the contract marriage. He is trying to know more about her but he solely is not at the moment to talk business with her yet. He is having a pleasant day and he seems to be so happy with a woman by his side for the first time.
