CHAPTER THREE

ASHER’S POV

“I wanna come with you” Rowan insists while running behind me as I make my way out of the castle with my Beta and a few guards following closely behind.

“And I say no!” I deny for the millionth time.

I stop on my tracks and spin around to face him and he abruptly comes to a halt. The others following also come to a halt as well.

I give Rowan a pointed look with a serious expression on and he let’s out a disappointed sigh.

“What did we discuss last night?” I ask sternly.

“Asher I’m just worried about you that’s why I want to come along”

“Trust me, I find it very adorable and heartwarming that you are worried about me, but you need not be. Alpha Adolph is not going to invite me over to his pack to have me killed, besides I’m taking Kane and a few guards along. I will be just fine, little brother” I try to assure him but the stubborn frown on his face tells me that he is still not convinced. “We can’t just leave the pack without any leader, I need you to stay here and make sure everything goes well while I’m away. Also, I need you to be on high alert, keep your mind link open, I will communicate with you if anything goes wrong, is that clear!” I ask with all seriousness and he reluctantly nods his head.

“Good, now off you go to the school training ground and whilst you’re at it, make sure to mind link Arya to take care of the paper work for me. You both will be in trouble if I return and nothing reasonable has been down around here. That said, now, run along” He spins around with such maddening rage as he marches away obviously disappointed with his assignment.

He is a difficult one to deal with, but not above me. I very well know how to deal with him.

I turn to my Beta and guards who are all standing like statues and let out a heavy breath.

“Gentlemen, which cars have been prepared for the trip?” I ask silently and my Beta steps forward.

“The Ranger Rover and the G wagon, Alpha”

“Now this trip just got more interesting” I whisper with a sheepish smile on as I make my way to the yard where the cars have been parked.

Once settled in, the guards hit the road and I once more drown myself in my thoughts.

The entire night, I tried to figure out why exactly I have been summoned by Alpha Adolph… calling him Alpha feels so wrong because he doesn’t even have Alpha blood running in his veins.

He stole power!

I hate that man.

“A penny for your thoughts” My wolf, Kai, pipes up and I roll my eyes and I lean my head against the head rest of the car seat.

“Look who decided to wake up from slumber” I tease.

“Slumber which you greatly prefer”

“Not anymore. I only habitually blocked you out when I was with the humans and didn’t want you getting overwhelmed by their weakness. But right now I’m with our kind and I’m Alpha now, I need you more than anything else”

“Is that supposed to make me blush?”

“Did you?”

“A bit”

“You can’t blush Kai, you are an animal for Pete’s sake. There really isn’t any hope for you, is there?”

Mind you Kai has got an outstanding sense of humor and fatigues me most of the time. One of the reasons why I always prefer to shut him out.

“So tell me, why do you think that asshole invited us?” He asks.

“You tell me why? You are the one with the hypersensitivity a s stuff, you should know” I reply as I carelessly shrug my shoulders and that earned me a angry purr from him.

“I’m an animal remember, we do not have a reasoning faculty…”

“That is so not accura …” I break on my words when I feel the connection with my pack break.

We just crossed the borders and are now in the Black Wood Pack.

The only thing connecting me with my Pack right now is the mind link.

Gosh I hate this feeling.

“Someone is getting the chills”

“Just shut up Kai, go get some rest”

“Oh man, come on! I just…” I cut him off by blocking him out in my mind. I have to mentally prepare myself for this encounter.

The last thing I want right now is to get too nervous in the presence of Alpha Adolph and turn into a blabbering idiot. That will make me seem weak and pathetic and I swear my ancestors will strike me dead on the spot if I ever portray that kind of image of myself and the entire pack.

“We are here” My Beta, Kane, announces and I exhale heavily as I close my eyes. Once the car comes to a halt, I wait for the others to step out and once they do, Kane opens the door for me and I step out of the car with all pride and confidence.

I scan the surroundings and I’m impressed by how large and beautiful it actually is. There are a few guards aligned at the yard probably there to welcome me. I take a few steps forward and one of the guards walk up to me.

“You are welcome to the Black Wood Pack, Alpha Asher” He says with a bow and give him a slight nod.

“Thank you”

“This way please.” He says pointing to a large doubled door that leads into the mighty castle.

Not to brag, but it’s not as mighty as mine.

As we walk in, I make sure to walk at lease two mile radius behind the guard just to be sure that I’m walking into some sort of trap. If his Alpha has invited me here to have me killed, I’m not gonna let him do that so easily.

Besides, I’m an Alpha and he is not. If we both get into a duel, I’m going to mess him

My thoughts are interrupted my the feel of my body connecting with someone else’s and all my senses become alert when I hear the sound of a scream like that if a girl’s. I instantly halt on my tracks and look down, only to see a slender figure struggling to get on her feet while muttering the words “I’m sorry” over a million time.

As she struggles to rise on her feet, she falls back to the floor and without thinking, I stretch my hand forward to here. She looks at my hand and gently raises her head up to look at me and the beauty and charm radiating from her ocean blue eyes almost knock me off my feet.

I blink three times, just to me sure I’m not dreaming, but I realize I’m not.

This blue eyed girl sitting before me on the floor dressed in what I will call rags looks so innocent and her beauty is absolutely stunning.

The rough state of her hair and shabby outfit proves that she has been subjected to torture and hard work for the better part of her life, but her smooth skin and breathtakingly beautiful face seems to prove a point of their own.

Like she is some sort if royalty.

“Alpha” I hear Kane whisper from behind and I snap out of my reverie and look down at the girl who is looking at my outstretched hand with a baffled expression plastered on her face.

“Go on, take it” I urge her but she shakes her and…

“You filthy little cockroach!” The guards who was leading the way blasts as he takes long strides towards us.

“How dare you…” He is about to hit her when I hold his hand in the air.

“Leave her be” I command.

“She just disrespected an Alpha”

“She didn’t mean to bump into me, leave her be” I defend and let go of his arm. I turn to face the girl one more time and this time around I don’t stretch my hand out for her to reject again, I gently take her up by the hand and she rises on her feet. I then stoop to the floor where I pick up the empty tray she was holding and hand over to her.

“There you go, Ma Lady” And then she does the most shocking thing, she runs away.

I look behind at Kane and the guards who all look like they just saw a ghost and I smile.

I can very well understand why they are so shocked.

A servant girl just caught their Alpha’s attention, now that is something very hard to take in.
