CHAPTER TWO

ASHER’S POV

First was dad and now it’s mum. They are both gone and now, I have no choice but to step up and take my position as Alpha.

I have never like the idea of becoming Alpha. When my father was alive, I always made him understand that my younger brother, Rowan, was going to be the next Alpha of this pack, not me.

I was hardly ever around in the pack. I have always been in the human world, with the humans, studying and hardly every visited the pack or learned a thing or two about it.

All I know was that our pack was the most powerful pack in the world and my Father, the Alpha was the most feared Alpha.

If there was one thing I loved my father, it was the fact that he always supported my decisions and cheered me to take whatever route I wanted. He was okay with my younger brother becoming the next Alpha of the pack and he began giving him the training at a very young age.

Everything seemed to be going well until tragedy stroke. My father died during a rogue attack in the pack and I had to come back home to mourn him. Not long after, my mother passed away too and that was just the final signal for me that I had to let go of my schooling, my dreams of becoming a medical doctor and take my position as Alpha of the Pack.

Rowan was terrified of the idea of being Alpha at seventeen years, so he begged me to take back my right as Alpha which I had no choice but to do so.

My father was a good man, he supported my every move and right now is the time for me to make him proud.

It’s true that I don’t know everything about being an Alpha, but the most important thing is that I’ve got Alpha blood flowing my veins. I’ve got that fearless nature of an Alpha, I’m faster, stronger and my senses are more powerful than anyone else’s in the pack and also I’ve got my Beta, Gamma and younger brother who are very versed with pack affairs and are ready to teach me everything I need to know.

I am going to make my father proud.

“Asher” A gentle soothing voice calls and I hear footsteps approach me. I do not need to raise my head up to check before I know it’s my younger sister, Arya. She is Rowan’s twin sister and since I was born, I have never seen any set of twins who are as close as they are.

Rowan and Arya technically can’t live away from each other. The last time my parents tried to separate them, Arya got so sick that she died for a few seconds but the moment Rowan arrived and touched her, she came back to live and since then, my parents have never tried to keep them apart again.

They have an unexplainable twin bond.

“Hello sweetie” I greet as I rise up on my feet and look down at her.

“Were you still crying on mother’s grave?” She asks worried and I smile.

“Do I look like someone who has been crying?” I ask with a brow and she cocks her head to the side as she examines my face, then she shakes her head.

“No”

“Good”

“But you look sad” She points out and I lower myself back to the grass and sit on it.

She lowers herself and sits by myside as well.

“I just came to talk to her, you know, she always listens to us”

“Yeah, she does. So, what did she say?”

“Well, the usual, I presume” I shrug and turn to face her. “She said I was strong enough to do this and that dad is always by my side.”

“And did it relieve you?”

“It always does.”

“That’s nice” She says with a smile.

There is a brief moment of silence and I take that opportunity to once more drown myself in my thoughts.

Now that I’m Alpha, if there is one thing I need the most in my life, it’s a Luna. But how am I going to find a Luna when we have all lost our ability to locate our mates?

Fifteen years ago, mysteriously, all werewolves who had not found their mates yet, lost the ability to do so. Till this day, nothing has been known to cause that malfunction and even the moon goddess has been silent about it.

During the first year, that resulted to a skyrocketing level of promiscuity in the pack that urged my father to make a few rules and laws.

Normally when werewolves find their mates, they may or may not decide to get married officially, but since we lost that ability, my father made marriage an obligation and strictly forbade premarital sex. Anyone caught doing the act was severely punished and that helped curb the issue to an extent. Right now if two werewolves wish to get married, they will have to come to me and a set of procedures will be followed before they are finally pronounced husband and wife.

That is one law I do not intend to joke with in this pack, because the last thing I want is for this very precious pack to turn into this generation’s Sodom and Gomorrah.

That will only happen over my dead body.

“I’ve got bad news” Arya’s calm voice snaps me out of my thoughts and I frown as I turn to look at her, wondering what she means by she has bad news.

“What bad news?”

“An invitation letter came in a while ago”

“And invitation letter?” I ask just to be sure and she nods her head and the look in her eyes tell me that the invitation means bad news indeed.

“From who exactly?”

“From Alpha Adolph Snow”

At the mention of the name Adolph Snow, blood in my veins pauses and my entire body goes cold. I shift uncomfortably on my spot as I close my eyes and swallow dryly.

And invitation from that particular Alpha cannot mean anything good. It means bad news as Arya rightly predicted.

The stories about how he overpowered the real Alpha of the Pack are terrifying and the way he treats the subjects of the pack right now is never a very pleasant topic to discuss about.

What could he possibly want from me?

“Did the messenger give any information on why he needed me?” I ask with a calm voice and she shakes her head.

“No, he just said the words and left. You are expected to be there before noon tomorrow”

“Oh… I see.”

“Are you gonna go?”

“Is that even supposed to be a question Arya? Of course I’m going to go. I wouldn’t want him to send his soldiers to come here and kill all my subjects.”

“I was just asking”

“Yes, I’m going to go. Come on, let’s go in. It’s getting cold out here.” I rise up and stretch out my right hand to her which she willingly takes and I pull her up.

“I’m scared” She whispers as we both walk into the castle.

“Don’t be honey, he’s not going to have us at his feet, we are bigger than that. I promise”

And I mean it.

I’m not honoring his invitation because I cannot say no, it’s because I really do want to know what he is up to so I can know how to protect my pack and it’s subjects against him.

Alpha Adolph, here I come.
