Chapter 10: Board of Directors of Lands Corporation
The following day.
Elise slept soundly for a whole night and even didn’t wake up when the clock alarms sounded.
After three alarms sounded together, she finally woke up. Suddenly, she recalled she needed to send Leslie to the elementary school. However, when she looked around, Leslie wasn’t in the room.
“Did Robin Bailey send her to school?”
Thinking about Robin, Elise walked out of the bedroom and saw the food for breakfast on the table with a note: “I’m sending Leslie to school.”
“Not bad.”
Elise changed her clothes and went to work.
She wondered if it was right or wrong to let Robin stay. However, from his behavior this morning, Elise believed she had made a correct decision.
Lands Corporation.
Elise entered the conference room on the top floor, where the board of directors worked. The board was the corridors of power of Lands Corporation. Many critical decisions were made in the room.
When Elise reentered here, she had mixed feelings.
“Oops, Elise. Here you came.”
Gordon Houry, her grandfather, sat in the host’s chair. His eyes were closed, his hands on the walking stick.
David looked at Elise, standing next to Gordon.
“Ehn,” Elise answered.
“Why are you so cold, Elise? We are family, aren’t we? I heard you let Robin Bailey enter your house yesterday. That jerk dumped you and your daughter for many years, but you let him in. When did you become so horny for men?”
Lifting a brow, David behaved as if he had said those words to remind Elise, but those words were full of implications.
He sent someone to check on Robin and only found he was only a common soldier. Later, Karen told him a wealthy man returned Robin’s favor to help them. Besides, there was nothing special about Robin.
David breathed a sigh of breath.
Earlier, he had thought Robin had a particular background.
“Really? Did you let him in? When I saw him first, he was begging on the street with shabby clothes. There were several holes in his outfit.”
“That jerk stole Elise’s money and ran away after sleeping with her. He didn’t return until yesterday with a decent look.”
“Once a homeless man, forever homeless. Elise, I’m so impressed. You were the chairwoman of the board of Lands Corporation. How could you be so horny? You even accepted a beggar.”
Other directors mocked Elise wantonly.
Elise looked annoyed without retorting. This situation had happened for seven years. Even if she retorted, it would be useless. The mockery never ended.
She had to tolerate them in silence.
“By the way, Elise has returned to our board,” suddenly, David said.
He walked to her and chuckled, “Elise, sorry, but I forgot you’d returned to the board. I didn’t prepare enough chairs. I’m afraid you have to stand up all the time.”
David hinted at Elise to stand in the corner. Then he returned to Gordon’s left like another host.
“All right.”
Elise repressed her anger and calmed down.
She couldn’t do anything under the current circumstances.
However, she still felt disappointed. She was the founder of Lands Corporation and developed it bit by bit without any help from her family before. However, after returning to the board of directors, she had to stand up in the corner of the meeting room.
She was overwhelmed by the depression.
Gordon slowly opened his eyes, his gaze sweeping around the room. Ignoring Elise, he said, “The Robin-Sophia Group will settle in Stillwater in three days. It’s a big group from the capital. They have already bought land holding 170 acres, but they need to cooperate with a local company as they lack manpower for the time being.”
“It’s a critical project for us. Once Lands Corporation can win the cooperation, we’ll return to being the top-ranking organization again. Moreover, if we can work long-term with them, our company will win against other top-ranking organizations and become the most influential in Stillwater in the future.”
Gordon’s muddy eyes lit up. “This is a rare opportunity for our company. Anyone who can gain cooperation with the Robin-Sophia Group, I’ll let him become the chairman of the board.”
‘Chairman of the board?’
The directors were shocked. Lands Corporation was the most crucial organization owned by the Houry family. Therefore, the person who became the chairman would also be the master of the Houry family.
“Chairman of the board? For seven years, Master Gordon has been the chairman. I can’t believe he’s willing to step down.”
“I can tell it’s indeed essential to gain cooperation with the Robin-Sophia Group. Or, Master Gordon wouldn’t have made such a decision.”
“Do you think we can win the cooperation?”
“How could it be possible? Lands Corporation is just a third-rate company with 60-million-dollar total assets. Even with the funding sponsored by John Granger yesterday, we don’t have much money.”
The directors discussed. None of them believed they could win the cooperation. There were several hundred companies like Lands Corporation in Stillwater, let alone Lands Corporation didn’t stand out.
However, when Elise was still the chairwoman, Lands Corporation was well-known.
‘Chairman of the board?’
Gordon’s words reechoed in Elise’s ears, making her pant. Tears welled up in her eyes. She was the founder of Lands Corporation and made it developed. Once she won the cooperation with the Robin-Sophia Group, she would return to be the chairwoman of the board and gain her things back.
She was determined to obtain the project as it was probably her only chance.
