CHAPTER 4

Chapter 4

Instead of returning my gaze to my friends, I continued to roam around the garden as I searched for something of interest.

The men who had approached Adonis earlier were all scattered around the garden.

I had begun to refer to them as bodyguards to Katherine's boyfriend's bodyguards because of their muscular builds and their Stoic expressions.

I couldn't help but admire the couples who were dancing on the open field as romantic music blared from the DJ's speaker.

Furthermore, I was curious to see Katherine's so-called boyfriend, but it seemed he wasn't going to show up.

Turning to my friends for the first time in several minutes, I asked

“Who's Katherine's boyfriend?”

It took Sara just a few seconds to spot him. She turned towards me, then nodded in Adonis direction.

With a frown, I turned my face away.

I was tired of seeing Adonis anywhere I turned. He was so annoying to look at.

It seems he knows many people, that's why he was literally everywhere.

Katherine's boyfriend was good-looking. No wonder, she couldn't stop bragging about him.

I knew staring was rude, but I couldn't help it.

Just then, a random man who wore a matching tuxedo with that of Adonis winked at me.

I rolled my eyes at him before I turned away.

It didn't take up to a minute before someone walked up to the table I was sharing with my friends.

I looked up the intruder only to discover it was the same man who winked at me earlier.

“Hello Armani” Sara greeted as I rolled my eyes.

I was certain I had rolled my eyes more than a hundred times already since we arrived at the party.

I don't understand why Sara was close to the rich.

Apart from her friends at the restaurant, I haven't seen her vibe with anyone of low status.

It was from one rich man to another.

Several times I had warned her to stay away from such men, but she wouldn't listen.

I even went ahead to instill fear into her that the men might be a part of the Mafia, but she waved my words off with a shrug.

Armani, who had been smiling since he reached our table, winked at Paige before waving at Beavis.

With the way they were smiling, I was certain they knew him beforehand.

“You never told me you have a pretty friend” he spoke for the first time

Sara, as usual, laughed as if he was telling a joke. She placed her hand on mine then said,

“Her name is Ivy”

I passed her a glare, but she pretended not to notice, instead she continued speaking with Armani.

“My name is Armani” he introduced as he stretched his hand towards me

I was still contemplating on if I should take his hand when Paige kicked my leg.

I got the message, then received his hand with a forced smile.

Instead of letting my hand go after the shake, he pulled me up.

As if that were not enough, he pulled me to himself so that we were just a few inches apart.

I could feel his hot breath fanning my face that had turned cold with fright. Apart from that, his rich cologne was messing with my senses.

“Let's dance” he smirked

“Not interested” I responded with an eye roll

“I didn't ask for your opinion. I said that as a command”.

“For real?” I said in my head as I stared back at him.

Against my will, he swept me off my feet in a bridal style and began to heed to the dance arena.

I agreed to dance with him because of the pleading eyes I was receiving from Sara, but that didn't stop me from thinking of what to do.

As we danced, he began to talk to me, but I was too angry to respond, rather I would force a smile.

After five minutes of a forced dance, I stopped abruptly.

“Are you okay?” He asked as he raised my face.

“Cramps. Girly stuff you know” I said nervously clutching the bottom of my stomach to back up the claim.

“Let's get to you, Sara. She can help” he said.

With the way, he spoke and his eyes' movement, I knew he had no idea what I was talking about.

“No need to bother her. I just need to go to the restroom that's all” I said with a convincing tone.

“Okay” I knew he didn't want me to leave, but there was nothing he could do.

Before leaving for the restroom, I grabbed my purse from the table. I refused to speak to my friends before I dashed out of the garden.

I was relieved when I got to the road.

Finally, I was heading back to the comfort of my home and, most of all, my bed, which had missed me a lot.

I pushed her hair from my face as I walked briskly down the road, waiting for an Uber driver to pull over.

It didn't take long before a car which I recognized was Adonis' own pulled up beside me.

“What does he want now?” I muttered as the tinted glass wind downwards.

“Get in” his deep voice rang in the cool night

“You have no right to speak to me” I said, putting up a brave face

Before I knew what was happening, he was already at my side.

I flinched when his rough hand gripped my arm. I was about to rebuke him when he yanked the door open, then pushed me in.

He got in seconds later than turned the ignition. Ignoring my rants, he set the car into motion.

When I had calmed down, he said,

“Sara asked me to take you home”

“If she wanted to help, she would have sent someone else, not you” I rolled my eyes

I continued to sulk.

Not only did Armani, Adonis, and Sara for me angry that night, my boss at Armand had sent some work for me to handle that night.

I was still sulking when he yelled, causing her heart to jump into my mouth.

“Don't let your guard done” he yelled again

Taking a careful look at him, it was then I realized he was speaking to someone on the phone.

“What's he talking about?” I wondered as I searched his face, but I couldn't find a clue.

To be honest, I really wanted to know who Adonis was.

Asking Sara was out of it. She was going to question me non-stop, and I didn't want that to happen.

He continued speaking in harsh times for a while before he ended the call.

With a sigh, I reclined on the seat then shut my eyes.

I was surprised I was feeling comfortable beside him despite the brewing hatred I had for him.

When I saw my little home from a distance, I sat up at once.

I was glad I was finally home, and I was going to be away from this monster called Adonis.

A few minutes later, he pulled up in front of my home and when I tried to open the door, he locked it from his side.

“Why?” I asked with a frown.

“Stay still,” he said without looking in my direction.

I attempted to open the door the second time, but the glare he passed my way made me recoil.

After what seemed like an eternity, I heard the door click.

He got down, then walked to my side. Opening the door for me, he ordered me to climb down with a glare.
