CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5

He continued to glare at me, but that didn't stop him from looking over his shoulders at calculated intervals.

“What's up with this man? Whatever it was that was bothering him, I had no hand in it” I said to myself when he wouldn't stop glaring at me.

Slowly, I walked towards my home, hoping someone was awake to open the door for me.

As I was about to press the doorbell, a gunshot sounded in the distance.

Fear invaded me as I crouched, shutting my ears tightly.

I was still trying to recover from the fear and shock I felt when the shot was fired when Adonis, who had been standing nearby, grabbed my arm.

“Shut your mouth” he whispered as if he read my mind.

My next action was to scream my lungs out, but the order from him made me swallow my scream.

Tightening his grip around my arm, he led me back to his car. Throwing me in like I was a piece of garbage, he shut the door before turning around to his side.

When he got in, he turned the ignition then sped away as if someone were before his life.

I had borne enough of his unreasonable act. If I kept mute, he would think I was a weakling, so I decided to speak up.

“Stop this car this moment” I ordered

He didn't respond, instead I saw him tightening his hand on the steering wheel.

Thanks to the dim light, I could see his thick veins bulging out.

“I want to go home, my family are waiting for me” I yelled again

He still didn't respond, instead he continued to stare at the rear mirror.

His action was annoying, but what was more annoying was his silence. I hated being ignored, but he derives joy in doing that.

Annoyed, I reclined on the chair then began to sulk.

I could wait to see Sara the next day. I needed to ask her to stop sending Adonis after me.

Furthermore, I wondered how she knew I was running from Armani, and how Adonis knew where to find me.

Whatever it is that was going on between the two, I would rather not be part of it.

I was going to make sure I inform her that the next day.

Crossing her hand across my chest, I remembered my sick boss at Armand aluminum.

I knew his plan was to frustrate me, but I wouldn't let that happen.

Sulking, I continued to look straight ahead.

Tired from my long day, I needed to sleep to rejuvenate my lost energy, but Sara deprived me by inviting me to Katherine's party that I didn't enjoy a bit.

As if that were not enough, here was Adonis taking me to where I don't know.

The cool breeze that was seeping into the car began to loot me to sleep.

I rubbed my eyes to keep sleep away. I couldn't afford to sleep in the car of this monster.

Against my will, my eyelids began to come together until sleep finally invaded my senses.

I was already in the dream world when a single scream from him made my eyes flick open.

I sat up with a racing heart as I stared at his hard face. Furthermore, I can't believe I fell asleep beside this man.

“... Clear the area” he yelled again.

His eyes were no longer hazel green, instead it were as dark as coal.

I was still trying to figure out what was going on when he hissed between his teeth then yelled

“Are you deaf ? Once the area is cleared, keep your cool”

Though faintly, I heard the voice at the other end say, “Okay” After that, the lines disconnected.

I gulped in fear as I shifted on my chair.

I only stopped staring at his hard face when he cast me a glance and caught me.

For the first time since I woke up from my short sleep, I looked outside the window.

Fear invaded my whole body when I discovered I had no idea where we were at that moment.

Instead of houses, all I could see was thick vegetation and a few clearings.

“Where are we?” I asked with bated breath.

“You don't need to know” he snapped at me

“What was wrong with this man?” I rolled my eyes before I asked the same question again.

This time around, I asked with a stern voice to mask my fear, but he wasn't buying it.

“All you need to know is that you're safe. Now stop panicking” he ordered.

I recoiled in my seat as my heart began to pound mercilessly in my chest.

Today was one of the worst days in my life. I couldn't help but to pray it ended quickly.

Several minutes later, he stopped in front of an uncompleted building.

I couldn't see anything save for the thick vegetation that surrounded us.

He climbed out of the car and I followed suit, then turned to the other side of his car to join him.

I made sure I kept a reasonable distance from him and also from the vegetation.

“Why? What are we doing here?” I asked monotone.

“When her coat is clear, we will return to the city” he replied

“Coast? What are you talking about?” I mumbled.

“You know what? Go to hell” I said, poking my fingers in his face.

With the speed of lightning, I was already on the other side of the car.

Yanking the door opened, I retrieved my purse and phone before I banged the door shut.

I raised my head only to be greeted with a pair of hazel green eyes staring back at me.

How on earth did he move and I didn't hear his footsteps?

For real, this Adonis guy was something else.

“What are you up to?” I asked looking me over.

“What do you think I'm up to?” I retorted.

“One last question before I leave that gun shot, was it for you or my family?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Your family is safe”

“That wasn't my question” I yelled at him

His face was expressionless when I looked up at him.

To be honest, each passing minute I spend with him makes my hatred for him increase.

I tried to walk away, but he grabbed my hand then pulled me back to my former position.

“Let go of me” I scowled, but it wasn't enough to move him.

“Stay still. Everything will be fine” his voice was calm, but I felt cold chills running down my spine.

When he let go of my hand, I rested my back on his car as my eyes began to dart around the arena.

The thought of my family clouded my memory. I hoped they were safe because they were the only people I had in this world.

With shaking hands, I picked up her phone to call Sara. I can't wait for the next day, so I could tell her a piece of my mind.

Whatever business she had with Adonis or those rich guys, I was going to ask her to exclude me.

I had barely turned my phone on when he snatched the device from my hand, then tucked it into his pockets.

“What was that for?” I yelled.

“It's not allowed. Believe me, everything will be fine” he said reassuringly, but it ended up cracking my nerves.

“Monster” I said with gritted teeth
