CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3

IVY POV

With the door shut, I sighed in relief then turned towards the road.

At first, I was confused.

The Sara I was familiar with didn't have a car. But across the road, a black Range Rover was parked.

I was still trying to connect the dots together when the driver's door suddenly opened.

At that instant, goose pimples appeared on my body. To worsen my predicament, whoever opened the door took a long time before stepping out.

I was about to dial Sara's phone when someone stepped out of the car.

The broad shoulders were all I needed to conclude it was a man. He was clad in a black tuxedo, and he had his back to me.

I was scared stiff.

“What if he wants to kidnap anymore around here?” That was the only thought that was running through my head.

After what seemed like forever, he got into the car and another door was opened.

Frightened, I was about to turn the knob when I heard Sara's voice.

I turned towards the direction of her call only to discover it came from the car.

“What's going on?” I found myself asking.

Sara ignored my question, instead she opened her arms wide for a hug which I didn't hesitate to fall into.

“You didn't tell me you're this pretty and curvy” she said the last word as she smacked her lips

“The night is far spent for flattering” I smirked

Sara didn't say a word. instead she threw her head backwards then began to laugh.

When she had composed herself, she took my hand then began to lead me towards the car.

“You don't look bad also” I shrugged

I was being sincere.

Among my friends at the restaurant, Sara's fashion sense spoke volumes. She was always out to kill.

I was tempted to ask why she rented a car and hired a driver but decided to keep my mouth shut.

After we made ourselves comfortable in the passenger's seat, Sara touched the driver's shoulder,

“Adonis, let's get going” she said

My eyes almost bulged out at the mention of the name.

For the first time since I climbed into the car, I looked closely at the so-called driver.

He was no other person than the rude man I encountered at the restaurant earlier.

I gave Sara a questioning look, but she misinterpreted it. Arching towards me, she whispered,

“There's no need to apologize. I've done that already, and he accepted” she said. From her tone, I could detect she was happy, but I didn't know why.

To be honest, I never meant to apologize to him. I only said that to prevent more talks.

I sighed as I rested my back on the fluffy seat. I refused to look in his direction all through the ride, rather I fixed my eyes outside the car.

“Adonis,” Sara called. He didn't respond nor show he was called.

I could hear Sara sigh. I guess correctly, she wasn't happy being ignored.

Who would?

After what seemed like forever, he muttered,

“What's it?”

“It's not valid anymore” Sara sulked

I knew Sara was still interested in whatever it was she wanted to ask, but because of his earlier attitude she decided to let it slide.

Twenty-minute drive got us to a mansion where Adonis pulled over.

“Hold on,” Sara said to me before she climbed out of the car. She came to my side, flung the door open then helped me out.

“Thank you” I smiled at her and she returned it

Adonis got out of the car, making me have a full view of him once more.

I will confess, he was a handsome guy. I don't need a soothsayer to tell me he was over 6' tall.

Another spectacular thing about him was his eye color. Instead of the black, brown, or blue color which was common, he had a pair of hazel green eyes.

I was still staring at him when he turned towards our direction.

At that instant, I turned my face away, then began to fiddle with my fingers.

“Let's go in,” Sara said softly as she slipped her fingers into mine.

Adonis didn't make any move. He just stood there with his back resting on his car and his gaze fixed on us.

I was always uncomfortable whenever anyone wouldn't stop staring at me, and that was exactly what was happening.

I missed my steps.

Luckily for me, Sara grabbed my hands as she helped me get a grip of myself.

“Are you alright?” She asked.

“Yeah”

I was about taking my next step when I heard Adonis rich baritone,

“Quit wearing heels if you can't walk on them”

I rolled my eyes at him.

I wished I could throw words back at him, but Sara; I didn't want to get on her nerves.

“Adonis” Sara scowled

“Suit yourself,” he muttered as he walked past us into the mansion.

Sara didn't say anything. She just gave me an apologetic look, then slipped her fingers into mine once more.

When we got to the garden where the party was going to be held, I was in awe.

I had seen beautiful environments before, but this one was exceptional. Everything in the garden was on a different level.

I stopped looking around so that I wouldn't draw unnecessary attention to myself.

Sara took me to a table which had been reserved for us.

A few minutes later, Paige and Beavis arrived. I must confess they were ravishing in their exquisite clothing.

Before we could have the chance to speak, Katherine was standing right in front of us.

She was all smiles as she exchanged pleasantries with the others.

When it got to my turn, her smile widened as she turned to Sara.

“I thought you were kidding” she grinned

“Of course not”

I wondered what the two were talking about when Katherine took my hand then pulled me up.

She engulfed me in a bear hug until I was certain I had inhaled all her cologne.

“Thank you for coming Ivy” she sang

I cast Sara a glance.

I was confused and scared of the show of affection from Katherine that night.

Back at the restaurant, we barely spoke to each other. Just the normal greetings, after that we always went our own way. But tonight was different.

She spent several minutes on our table before a man walked up to her, then led her away.

“Let's eat. I'm starving already” Paige pouted seconds later.

“Always starving. I hope you won't fill your tummy with too much food because I won't cover up for you tomorrow” Sara said with a roll of eyes.

“I can handle myself”

After serving ourselves since it was a buffet party, we returned to our table then began to eat.

I wasn't used to eating out, so I was uncomfortable. I took a little food each time, then chewed on it slowly.

After eating, I began to sip my wine while I looked around.

It didn't take long for me to spot Adonis.

I rolled my eyes in frustration. He was the least person I wanted to see.

I was about to fix my gaze on another part of the garden when I saw some men dressed in matching tuxedos as Adonis walking towards him.

My interest piqued.

Instead of joining in the conversation that was going on between my friends, I narrowed my eyes in their direction.

Whatever it was they wanted to talk about lasted for barely a minute before they went their different ways.
