CHAPTER 2
Chapter 2
IVY POV
Sara continued staring at me for a while. From her facial expression, I could tell she was mad at me.
I cracked my brain for possible reasons why she should, but I found none. After a brief silence, I cleared my throat then turned towards her direction.
“Let's get back to work, so we won't get a cut in our pay. We can talk about whatever it is during our break hour” I said with a light smile.
I didn't wait for her response before I left the bathroom.
Sara didn't show up at the counter until several minutes later. And when she did, she ignored me completely.
Even before break time, our friends had noticed the beef between us.
Sitting behind our favorite table at the staff quarters, Paige raised the issue.
“Why the beef?” She asked calmly.
“She insulted Adonis” Sara cringed
I raised my brow at her before wriggling it confused. I had no idea of who she was referring to.
“Adonis? I don't remember insulting anyone going by that name” I replied.
“The guy you threw words out there is Adonis. He's my friend” she snapped.
Realization hit me that instant as the image of the man flashed before my eyes.
“I'm sorry. Never knew he was your friend. In between, he is just too rude” I smirked.
Sara narrowed her eyes on me. I turned my face away because I couldn't face her.
“It's enough. You can apologize on her behalf” Beavis said.
“I won't. She has to do it herself” Sara clicked her tongue.
I wasn't surprise a bit. Sara was always like this whenever she was pissed.
“Okay fine. Whenever he comes around, I'll apologize” I said to clear the air.
We remained quiet for a while, with everyone in their world of thoughts.
After what seemed like forever, Sara sat up as she cleared her throat to get our attention. Her pair of brown eyes were unusually bright, causing me to wonder what she was up to.
“There's a party tonight” she announced
At that instant, my face fell. My friends knew I hated parties, but they always found a way to chip it into our daily lives.
The last time I attended a party with them, I left after spending barely a few minutes at the entrance.
“You're coming with us, Ivy. It's a swell opportunity to celebrate your birthday”
“I'll pass…” I barely said what I wanted to when Beavis countered.
“What's your excuse this time around?”
I rolled my eyes at her question.
“Go on little miss” Paige smirked
“Fine. I have no excuse” I dropped my shoulders sadly, but that didn't bother them.
“That's perfect” Sara said with glee
While they were discussing their outfits, I was just staring at their lips as I wondered who was having the party.
My answer came sooner than expected when Sara said,
“Katherine boyfriend is rare” the others concurred while I looked on.
Katherine was a colleague in the restaurant. She was a loud mouth who wouldn't stop telling everyone how rich her boyfriend was.
I became curious all of a sudden when I realized I was going to see the rich boyfriend she wouldn't stop talking about.
“Why the party?” I asked without thinking.
Three pairs of eyes turned to my direction that instant. It was as if I asked a forbidden question.
“It's just a question” I shrugged
“And it's just a party” Sara retorted
“TSK TSK” I waved my hand
I left Fervid Restaurant a few minutes past three pm for Armand aluminum, where I'll spend three hours before I return home.
On my way, my mom called to inform me of her late homecoming. I took that as a cue to let her know I would be out that night.
Three hours seemed like three days to me.
My boss, Fredrick, refused to release the flash drive from which I was obtaining information for my work until it was almost an hour before my closing hour.
I knew he wanted to delay me on purpose so that he could have me as a company when other workers had closed for the day.
He might be smart, but definitely I was smarter than he.
With my knowledge and determination not to spend more than my closing hour, I was able to beat the job to his disdain and surprise.
When I got home, after changing into some comfy clothes, I prepared dinner because mom was going to be late.
I was cleaning up when Elsa walked in with a frown on her face.
I chose to ignore her, but when she wouldn't stop staring at me, I decided to acknowledge her with a raised brow.
That was all she needed to start running her mouth.
“Remember Xavier right?” She asked.
I didn't have to crack my memory for too long. The name was familiar because Elsa wouldn't stop talking about him.
“What happened this time around?” I asked, folding my hands across my chest.
“He refused to pay for the art piece I did for him” she pouted
Elsa was an artist. Instead of lazing around waiting for pocket money from my mom, she decided to use her talent to make some money.
At first, it wasn't paying, so she decided to put a hold on it, but after a while she resumed, and now she was making a fortune from it.
“He will pay” I assured her
“But it will take a pretty long time. I swear I'll fucking burst his eyes one day” she scowled banging her fist against the wall.
“Elsa! Don't you dare” I said with gritted teeth.
These days, the words she was spewing always made my heart do several backflips.
“Fine. I won't do anything but if he doesn't pay up, trust me, I'll burst his eyes”
I rolled my eyes before I resumed cleaning while she sulked.
While we were having dinner, I decided to tell her about the party I was going to attend later that night.
Her initial response was to laugh at my face. She was mocking me because I rarely socialize with people.
When she had gotten over the laughter, she said in between mouthfuls of salad,
“Hurry let's get you dressed up”
I just nodded as I chewed on my food slowly.
I would be lying if I said I didn't envy my little sister, but I was careful enough not to let it cloud my sense of reasoning.
After dinner, we washed up together before heading to my room.
I went to take a cold shower while she chose the clothes she wanted me to put on.
When I returned to my room, Elsa was standing before the mirror with a gown resting on her body.
“This is perfect, right?” She asked, turning towards my direction.
“I have no choice, do I?” I replied.
“Of course you don't”
I rolled my eyes at her gut before I began to apply lotion on my skin.
Elsa helped me with my makeup, and before we knew it, I was fully set for the party.
I didn't tell her because I feared she was going to mock me. I loved my new appearance.
I was about to slip my feet into my strapped sandals when my phone buzzed.
Sara was on the line.
There was no need to pick her calls. I knew she was already in front of my home.
“Don't forget to grab every detail of the party because you're going to fill me up when you return” Elsa called after me
“Alright” I replied as I shut the door
