Chapter 8 I'm Married

Callie pouted. "But I didn't though, did I?"

But noticing Nelson's sinister gaze, Callie sat up straight and promised, "I'll be more careful in the future."

Nelson warned her coldly, "There better not be a next time, or you're done for."

Callie nodded at once.

"Drop me off at the next intersection. I'm going back to the hospital to see my dad."

Callie's father was in the same hospital as Old Oconnor.

Nelson said nothing more and pulled over. Before getting out, Callie looked at him heartily.

"I did well though, right? Grandpa seemed pretty happy. So, Mr. Oconnor, about my attendance bonus..."

"It's gone!"

Callie knew Nelson broke his promise because she had made a mistake, but she would not accept this result.

The next second, she crossed her arms, and said bluntly, "Fine, then when I go back to the hospital later, I'll go visit Grandpa again!"

As she unfastened her seatbelt, Nelson grabbed her wrist.

"Are you threatening me?"

Callie smiled. "No, I wouldn't dare, Mr. Oconnor."

"Good, let's go back together then. I'll visit your dad too!"

Callie trembled at his words. This didn't look like a visit! It looked like he was going to pull her dad's oxygen plug. She immediately faltered.

"Mr. Oconnor, I'm sorry. I won't bother Grandpa. Forget the attendance bonus."

Callie, on the verge of tears, unfastened the seatbelt and got out of the car.

Callie walked back to the hospital. She already heard last night that Nelson had arranged for her father to be transferred to a VIP room.

She sat by his bed and looked at her father who had been in a coma for three years, feeling very sad.

"Dad, please wake up soon. I miss you so much. I really want to talk to you."

Callie's eyes reddened.

When she was twelve—at least she thought she was twelve—and woke up in this very hospital with no memory, Reuben Marsh was the first person she saw.

Reuben was a surgeon here.

He adopted Callie, treated her, and took good care of her. After the police couldn't find her family, he brought her back to his home.

"Callie, you're here!"

The door opened, and Tobias Conway, Callie's father's doctor, walked in. Callie wiped her tears and greeted him with a smile.

"Tobias."

Callie and Tobias were quite close. He had helped her financially many times when she couldn't afford the medical bills over the years.

Tobias was in his white coat, he asked thoughtfully with a smile on his handsome face, "I heard from the director yesterday that a top international team was brought in to treat your father. Callie, how..."

After three years of knowing each other and all of his help, Callie had come to see Tobias as a brother and couldn't keep it from him. She ended up telling him all about her fake marriage with Nelson.

Tobias found it all very dramatic. "This… This is so sudden!"

"Yeah, I had long wanted to get married, move out, and stay away from my mom. And Nelson can also help with my dad. So it's all good." Callie had already accepted it.

Tobias looked at her profile and felt an indescribable sense of loss in his heart.

He had always thought that Callie wouldn't even consider marriage before Reuben could wake up.
