Chapter 7 Really wasn't on Purpose?

Nelson's hand froze midair as he picked up a chess piece, then he put it down. "Yes, Grandpa, it started that way, but now I genuinely like her."

The old man smiled with relief. "As long as you both truly like each other. Seeing you marry someone you love, I have no more regrets in life. Remember, make sure to give me a great-grandson soon."

Old Oconnor was already in his eighties, and his organs were beginning to fail.

Nelson's eyes flickered as he responded yes.

Callie's call was from her mother, who was saying the same things as yesterday. Callie gave a few replies perfunctorily and returned to the ward.

At lunchtime, Old Occonor insisted on going out, so they went to a restaurant nearby.

Nelson ordered a few of the old man's favourite dishes. Then he handed the menu over to Callie, his icy voice carrying a hint of affection. "See if there's anything you want."

Callie took the menu and seemingly casually ordered a few dishes.

Soon, the waiter brought over everything.

Nelson played his role very well, and kept placing more food on Callie's plate.

Callie, following his step, placed some eggplant that she ordered on his plate as well. "Nelson, this is your favourite dish, have some more!"

Nelson stared at her with a warning glint in his eyes.

Old Oconnor was puzzled and said, "Hmm? Nelson has never liked eggplant since he was a kid."

Hearing this, Callie just smiled. "Grandpa, you didn't know? I love eggplant, so Nelson has come to like it too!"

"Is that so?" The old man chuckled. "They say being together for a long time can change your habits. Back then, your grandmother was the same way. She liked sweets, and I didn't, but eventually, I grew to like them too."

With that, Nelson had no choice but to finish all the eggplant on his plate, holding back his anger.

Callie felt very guilty, but Nelson's frustrated expression secretly pleased her as well.

After the meal, they left the restaurant. And as soon as they returned to the hospital, the old man said, "Okay, I know you're busy. You should go now. Callie, come visit me when you can."

Callie turned to look at Nelson.

"Of course, Grandpa, I'll bring Callie to visit you again soon."

Callie also bid the old man farewell with a smile.

As Nelson held Callie's hand, or more accurately, squeezed it tightly, she felt a lot of pain.

"Ouch, it hurts, Mr. Oconnor... Grandpa is still watching!"

"Go ahead and tell on me if you dare," Nelson said coldly.

But Callie had no guts to do so.

They got in the car. Callie was sitting in the passenger seat, and Nelson, aware that Old Oconnor was still watching, fastened her seatbelt for her. But the gloomy aura emanating from him truly scared her.

"Mr. Oconnor, I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to mix up your preferences in food!"

"It really wasn't on purpose?" Nelson stared at her.

"It really wasn't," Callie insisted.

Well, she did do it on purpose, as revenge for making her wait two whole hours the day before.

But Nelson saw through her thoughts, and said in a cold voice as he started the car, "Do you realize that your action could have exposed our fake marriage to Grandpa?"
