Chapter 13 East Coast Hospital

"Mom..."

Chris wanted to explain, but Susan didn't give him a chance. She turned around and left.

John looked at Chris and let out a sigh.

He also wished for a capable son-in-law like Alfred. Then they could have a good life.

But John knew it was impossible.

With that thought in mind, John shook his head and walked away.

After John and Susan left, Chris, Esther, and Hope returned to the basement.

There was only one small bed in the basement, so Chris had to sleep on the floor.

Recalling the hardships they had faced that day, Esther couldn't help but weep on the bed.

Chris heard her sobbing and felt sorry for her. He comforted her, "I'm sorry, Esther. I know I brought shame upon you today. I promise..."

Before Chris could finish his words, Esther interrupted him, "Forget it. I don't care if you're really crazy. You're still my husband and our daughter's father. I don't care about anything else as long as we're together."

Esther's words moved Chris.

"Esther, don't worry. I'll make sure you have a good life. Oh, by the way, I found a great doctor at East Coast Hospital. Our daughter can have surgery tomorrow."

Esther was delighted. "Really? East Coast Hospital is the best in the city. How did you manage that?"

Chris smiled. "I have a good friend here. He holds quite a bit of influence on the East Coast, so I asked for his help."

Chris didn't reveal his true identity to Esther. After all, even if he spoke the truth, she wouldn't believe it.

Esther didn't doubt Chris's words.

Knowing that Chris had served in the military for five years, it made sense that he would have influential friends.

With the assurance that their dear daughter would finally undergo surgery, Esther felt a sense of relief.

The night passed quietly.

The next day, they woke up early.

"Esther, my friend is waiting for us."

"Okay, I'm coming!"

Esther quickly washed her face and took Hope with her.

As she stepped outside, she was shocked by the scene that unfolded before her eyes.

There were about ten military vehicles parked on the road, each one filled with armed soldiers.

Tiger, dressed in combat uniform, approached and respectfully said to Chris, "Master, please!"

Chris nodded, clearly accustomed to Tiger's deferential attitude.

As they got into the car, Esther whispered to Chris, "Chris, your friend must be very powerful to command so many soldiers."

Chris just smiled and didn't respond. He would have arranged for a helicopter if he wasn't concerned about frightening Esther.

Even so, Esther was thoroughly amazed.

Esther looked at Tiger in the front passenger seat and asked, "Hello, are you Chris's friend?"

Friend?

Tiger turned around, perplexed.

No one in the entire country was qualified to be Chris's friend.

Tiger looked at Chris and saw him wink. Understanding the message, Tiger smiled and replied, "Yeah, I'm the Master's friend."

Curious, Esther asked, "Why do you call him Master? What does Master mean?"

Tiger scratched his head and said, "That's a long story..."

Tiger didn't know how to explain it. Chris chimed in, "Esther, Master means the leader of all armed forces."

Chris was the Primus and the leader of the Navy, Air Force, and Army.

Well!

Esther didn't fully grasp the meaning, but she nodded and didn't press further.

"Dad, can we always be this cool?" Hope looked at Chris with anticipation.

Chris smiled and replied, "Of course we can. You're my daughter."

As the daughter of the Primus, Hope was the most esteemed princess in the country.

...

At the entrance of East Coast Hospital, hundreds of doctors awaited their arrival.

The previous night, Dr. McKinney, the hospital president, received a phone call.

He was informed that a VIP would be coming to the hospital for his daughter's illness.

He was instructed to make adequate preparations.

If anything went wrong, today would be his last day on the job.

Naturally, he didn't want to lose his position, so he summoned all the doctors in the hospital to welcome the VIP.

"Dr. McKinney, who's coming? Why are you being so respectful?" asked the vice president, Dr. Newton, in confusion.

Dr. McKinney shook his head and replied, "I don't know. But we've been ordered to prepare ourselves. Failure to comply will result in punishment for all of us."

Dr. Newton was taken aback by these words.

His curiosity grew stronger.

Who was this VIP? Why did they require such reverence?

Dr. McKinney checked his watch and grew a bit nervous.

It was already eight o'clock, and the person still hadn't arrived.

"Vroom!"

Just then, the sound of car engines rumbled in the distance.

Ten military vehicles sped toward them.

Hundreds of soldiers disembarked from the vehicles.

The sight left all the doctors in awe.

Who could it be? How powerful must they be!

A man wearing a combat uniform adorned with four stars on his shoulder stepped out of one of the cars.

A four-star general!

Dr. McKinney grew even more anxious as he saw the uniform.

The Commander of the East Coast was only a three-star general.

Yet this man had four stars.

After Tiger got out of the car, he opened the door for Chris.

Carrying his daughter and holding his wife's hand, Chris stepped out of the vehicle.

As Esther got out, she was stunned by the scene before her.

Hundreds of doctors from East Coast Hospital awaited them at the entrance.

Esther had never witnessed such an impressive sight before.

"Welcome to East Coast Hospital!" Dr. McKinney approached with a smile.

Tiger looked at him and said indifferently, "This is Mr. Shelby."

Mr. Shelby?

Was he the person they were here to serve?

Even a four-star general opened the door for him. Who on earth was he?

Dr. McKinney then turned his attention to Chris.

Chris appeared ordinary, but his eyes were deep and captivating.

His gaze seemed capable of devouring anything in the world.
