Chapter 14 Surgery
"Hello, Mr. Shelby. I'm Thomas McKinney, the president of East Coast Hospital," Dr. McKinney introduced himself respectfully.
Chris nodded, extending a hand. "Nice to meet you. My daughter is ill. I wonder if you can help her."
"Mr. Shelby, we will assign our best doctors to examine your daughter, and then I will personally perform the surgery," Dr. McKinney assured him. He had a background in cardiac surgery and was confident in his abilities.
Esther held Chris's hand tightly, feeling a sense of safety in his presence. Over the past five years, Esther had endured a difficult life, but now that Chris had returned, she finally had hope again.
Just then, they heard some commotion coming from the corridor outside.
Chris frowned, irritation evident on his face. "My daughter is about to undergo surgery. Who dares to cause a disturbance here?"
Tiger stepped forward and asked, "Master, should I go and take a look?"
Chris, with a sullen expression, replied, "No, I'll handle this myself. I'm curious to see who dares to create trouble when my daughter is in the middle of surgery."
Turning to Esther, he added, "Esther, wait for me here. I'll deal with those bothersome flies."
Esther nodded, understanding the determination in Chris's eyes.
Chris and Tiger headed towards the corridor to confront the source of the disturbance.
As they arrived, they witnessed two soldiers attempting to halt a group of individuals.
Chris recognized them immediately. One of them was Esther's uncle, Felix Jefferson.
"You ignorant soldiers! How dare you stop me? I'm from the Jefferson family! You'll face consequences if you dare obstruct me here. Get out of my way!" Felix shouted angrily.
Simultaneously, a young man arrogantly chimed in, "Dad, don't waste time here. We know the Commander's contact number, don't we? Let's call him and have these soldiers punished."
It was Felix's son, Patrick Jefferson.
"Who is causing trouble here? Keep quiet! My daughter is undergoing surgery!" Chris stepped forward, his expression stern.
"Chris? What are you doing here? You good-for-nothing loser!" Felix exclaimed in surprise upon seeing Chris.
Chris snorted dismissively, "Ah, it's you. You still have seven days left, don't you? What? Can't wait to meet your doom?"
"Dad, who is this guy?" Patrick stared at Chris, full of disdain, and turned to his father for an introduction.
Patrick had not attended the birthday banquet, so he was unaware of Chris's identity.
Felix sneered, "Son, let me introduce him to you. He's Esther's husband, that worthless tramp we took in, Chris Shelby."
Patrick snorted with disdain. "Ha, it's him. He disappeared after the wedding day. Why are you here, you bastard?"
"Hey! How dare you speak to Master like that?" Tiger couldn't tolerate Patrick's insolence and shouted at him.
Patrick glanced at Tiger, his tone dripping with arrogance. "Do you think I'm afraid of a soldier? I'm from the Jefferson family. I have a close relationship with the Commander of the East Coast. You'll lose your job immediately if I make a phone call."
Unbeknownst to Patrick, he was just a playboy unaware of military rankings and the true power dynamics within the East Coast. The Commander of the East Coast was nothing more than an insignificant figure in Tiger's eyes.
Moreover, those truly influential within the East Coast were well aware of Chris's true identity.
