Chapter 3: Thirst

Before she could answer her stomach started growling causing for her to redden in embarrassment. She heard a soft chuckle causing for her to redden more-- if that’s possible. “What would you like to eat?” she asked. “I- I don’t have anything in mind” she answered and look down again due to embarrassment. Lilith stood up and walked straight to the door once she realized that Zaylee isn’t following she turned around and said “I thought you were hungry”, this made Zaylee spring out of her chair and followed her soon to be boss.

They made their way out and was waiting for Lilith’s car to pull over. A black Ferrari car pulled over in front of them causing for Zaylee’s jaw to drop. She knows that Lilith is rich but for a Ferrari to be her car is unexpected to her. A driver emerged from the driver’s seat, she walked over to Lilith before handing her the keys and bowing. Lilith confidently walked towards the car and entered it. Zaylee was just standing there still in shock that she would ride a Ferrari, she never imagined in her wildest dream that she would even witness it.

“Are you just going to stand there or what? We don’t have the whole day” Lilith said in the driver seat while windows are rolled down, this snapped Zaylee out of her trans as she slowly walked towards the car and very carefully, she doesn’t want to scratch it even a bit. I can’t pay for it if I scratch it, she thought to herself. Once she entered the car, she made sure to strap herself in the seat before seating properly and avoid eye contact to the girl beside her. Lilith drove of the who knows where and Zaylee was just seating there overwhelmed with her thoughts, she unconsciously put her hands in her stomach causing for her to his in pain.

Lilith’s head immediately turned to her in a quick glance before looking back to the road. “Does it still hurt?” Lilith asked “Yeah, a little” she answered still not looking at her. “How did you manage to do a stitch this clean? I mean you aren’t a doctor or anything” she asked and looked over the older girl. “Let’s just say that my parents thought me how to survive” Lilith answered.

They soon stopped at a very fancy restaurant making Zaylee cringe at herself for feeling underdressed. “Can’t we go somewhere more casual?” Zaylee as she got out of the car. “No can do” Lilith said as she walks towards straight to the door.

A waitress greeted them with a bow. Zaylee suddenly felt so small inside the huge space, everything is made of gold, I could pay my student loans with a spoon from here she thought to herself. The waitress guided them inside a VIP area causing for her eyes to grow wide. “I can’t pay for this” Zaylee whispered as soon as they were left alone. “I didn’t say that you would pay for it” Lilith said and grabbed the menu from the new waiter

“I’ll order the medium rare stake and tell the chef that Lilith Reeves wants her personalized drink and make it two” She said and closed the menu before looking Zaylee who pretended to be reading the menu even though she doesn’t know any of the foods there. Once her eyes caught the price of the stake her eyes grew wide. How can a piece of undercooked meat be this expensive? She asked herself. “I-I’ll have the salad” she said and closed the menu before handing it back to the waiter. “I’ll bring your orders in a few minutes” He said and left.

Once again silence filled them, Lilith was busy reading something of her tablet or that’s what Zaylee presume. “Why do you want me to be your secretary?” Zaylee asked once she can’t handle the silence anymore. Lilith just looked at her with furrowed brows “I thought—” she was cut of by Zaylee “I know that you did that because you of what we agreed last night but, why your secretary? You could put me as a janitor or something” she explained. “First” Lilith started as she held out her point finger “Our janitor is doing a good job and I don’t want to fire him, second” She held out two fingers “You don’t know how to program a game so you can’t do office work and lastly I don’t have a secretary” she explained. Zaylee just nod in understanding, it makes sense to her and it’s easier than being a janitor.

“But I can’t work fulltime, I’m still a student” she said once she realizes everything. “I know, that’s why I made us a contract” she said and placed a stack of paper in the table. “You will work every-time you don’t have a schedule and that includes Saturdays, Sunday is your rest day” she explains while Zaylee was busy scanning the pages. “You will come to me every time I call you no matter what you are doing, our contract would last for 3 years or until you pay off your debt” Lilith continued

“I really have no choice huh?” Zaylee asked once she was done reading the contract “Nope” Lilith said with a cheeky smile on her face. Lilith gave her a pen and watch as she signs the contract. She let out a small smile before grabbing the paper and putting it back in her bag.

“Here’s your order madams” The waiter said as she laid out the stake in front of Lilith while a bowl of salad in front of Zaylee. He also placed two wine glasses in front of them “Just raise your hand if you need anything else” he said before taking a bow and walking away. They started eating silently with only the collusion of plates and utensils can be heard. Zaylee suddenly felt thirsty as she looks over to the glasses in front of her. “ May I?” She asked “Help yourself” she nonchalantly answered.

The red liquid passed through her lips and a newfound flavor overwhelmed her, it’s so sweet she thought. “What is this?” she asked to her companion

“Blood” she answered honestly
