Chapter 4
Bella’s words hit Nathan like a punch. He stared at her for a long time but couldn’t find any sign that she was joking or lying.
Did she really want a divorce? The thought made Nathan even more frustrated.
Seeing him stay silent, Bella lost her patience and taunted him, “Mr. Quinn, are you having a hard time wanting a divorce? Have you fallen for me?”
For Nathan, liking Bella, a woman who was always a nuisance, was embarrassing! Some people even said he was depending on women. He couldn’t stand that.
As soon as Bella finished speaking, Nathan’s face turned even darker. “Bella, you actually dare to say that!”
Bella stood up. “Then let’s go to City Hall?”
Nathan tried to stay calm. “I’m really busy. Maybe in a few days.”
Bella replied coldly, “Let’s do it Thursday. I remember you have a contract renewal with the Foster family that day. We can talk about it on the way to City Hall.”
Nathan gripped his pen tightly, his fingers turning white.
“If you want a divorce so much, I’ll give it to you! I hope you don’t regret it.”
Bella finally smiled, pleased with herself.
“Thanks for agreeing. By the way, I’ve already had Julia removed from the customs blacklist. You can get her back to the country now. I wish you a happy marriage and lots of kids.”
With that, she turned and walked away, feeling free and decisive.
Nathan kept working, but he didn’t get anything done for the next few hours.
After leaving Quinn Corporation, Bella went back to her apartment.
As soon as she got out of the elevator, she saw more than ten bodyguards in black gathered in the hallway.
Bella wondered if it was because Nathan, that nasty guy, was mad at her and wanted to silence her. But then she saw an older man with white hair come out from behind the bodyguards.
Her eyes filled with tears. “Grandfather?”
In her past life, to please Nathan, she had leaked the Foster family’s secrets. She thought Nathan just wanted more money, but he actually wanted to take over the Foster family completely. After that, the Foster family went bankrupt.
John was so upset he died in the hospital soon after. Even though this hadn’t happened yet in her current life, the guilt she felt couldn’t be erased. She didn’t want to face her grandfather.
Then, John tapped her leg gently with his cane. His face was stern. “I heard you want to divorce Nathan?”
“I planned to tell you later,” Bella said. She remembered the old butler’s worried look when she left the Quinn family. He must have told her grandfather.
“Do you even care about me?” John snorted. “Marriage is like this, and divorce is like this. Are you just playing house?”
Bella took a step forward, holding her grandfather’s arm and resting her head on his shoulder. “You’re always in my heart. As for the divorce… it’s just a young people’s thing. Don’t worry, I’m fine with it.”
She led John into the house.
They chatted for a while, and then John got to the main point. “What are you planning to do after divorcing Nathan?”
He supported Bella’s decision to divorce. If she wanted to marry, let her marry. As long as the Foster family existed, the Quinn family wouldn’t dare to ignore them. Now that they were divorcing, and it was Bella’s choice, he couldn’t say much.
“I want to go back to work.” Bella had originally planned to keep it from John until after the divorce was done, but now that he knew, she had to move quickly. In her past life, Nathan was only part of the reason the Foster family went bankrupt so fast. The main issue was within the Foster family itself.
John felt relieved. “You’re finally getting back on track. According to the Foster family’s rules, family members who join the company start in middle management. I’ll make arrangements for you, and you can start the handover tomorrow. You’ve done well during this year of marriage, and many board members are leaning towards him. You’ll need to work harder.”
Ian was Bella’s second uncle’s child and John’s brother’s grandson.
John’s side of the family only had Bella as a granddaughter, and now that she was married, other family branches were eyeing the top spot in the Foster family.
In her past life, after John’s death, those people drained the life out of the Foster family.
Bella held John’s hand and said firmly, “Grandpa, don’t worry. I’ll work hard.” Since she was reborn, she would never let anyone take away what belonged to her and her grandfather!
