Chapter 3
Bella waited at City Hall all morning, but Nathan never showed up. She didn’t have Nathan’s phone number, so she went straight to Quinn Corporation.
She got through security on the first floor but was stopped at the president’s office door by Nathan’s special assistant, Quentin.
“Ma’am, Mr. Quinn is in a meeting. Please don’t bother him,” Quentin said.
He had been with Nathan for a long time and knew all about Bella and Nathan’s issues. Since their marriage, Bella had often come to the company with minor problems. Even though she was from the Foster family, Quentin didn’t think much of her.
If not for her looks and her family’s status, she’d be just like any other woman in Nathan’s life.
Bella smirked and challenged, “What if I insist on bothering him?”
She used to be sweet to Nathan’s trusted aide, but now she saw the disdain in Quentin’s tone. She didn’t blame him for looking down on her; she looked down on her past self too. But she still found people like him disgusting. As Nathan’s right-hand man, how could he not know why she and Nathan married?
They were all the same trash.
Quentin frowned. “Ma’am, if you keep bothering me, I’ll have to call someone to escort you out.”
Nathan had always disliked Bella. When she made a scene before, Quentin had security remove her, and Nathan didn’t scold him; it was like he approved.
Bella suddenly smiled and said, “What if Nathan found out you slept with his secretary? Do you think he’d keep you?”
Quentin’s face went pale. “How do you know?”
During his wife’s pregnancy, he had an affair with a secretary from the company. Office romances were strictly forbidden, and no one knew. How did this clueless Ma’am find out?
Bella took a step back, “Guess.”
“You!” Quentin gritted his teeth.
A cold look flashed in Bella’s eyes. “Let me in, or do you want everyone to know about your affair? It’s up to you.”
Quentin clenched his jaw and let Bella in.
Before going through the door, Bella ‘kindly’ reminded him, “Oh, and make sure to tell your wife the truth. Otherwise, I’ll tell her myself.”
No matter what the woman decided to do, she deserved to know.
“Got it.” Quentin gritted his teeth.
Bella didn’t care about him. She pushed open the president’s office door and walked in.
Nathan hadn’t heard the commotion outside and thought Quentin had come in. He looked up from his paperwork and saw Bella. His face darkened. “How did you get in?”
“I walked in,” Bella said, casually leaning against the sofa. “I waited at City Hall all morning! Mr. Quinn’s time is valuable, and mine isn’t free either.”
Nathan seemed surprised. He didn’t believe she’d actually gone to City Hall. He thought the divorce was just a ploy for attention. But now, it looked like she really wanted a divorce. A hint of annoyance bubbled up. He thought it was because this woman had managed to provoke him again.
His voice turned cold. “Is there anyone busier than you? What’s your excuse? Planning another tantrum?”
Bella laughed. She realized that even looking at Nathan now felt like a waste of time. “I’m throwing a tantrum? You’re the one wrapped up with another woman and playing games with me. Now you’re turning things around, Mr. Quinn.”
Nathan’s face darkened.
Seeing Nathan, usually so arrogant, at a loss for words didn’t make Bella happy. She had once been proud, but now she felt humiliated and defeated.
Bella didn’t want to waste more time. “City Hall opens at one o’clock. Hurry up. It’ll be crowded if you’re late.”
Nathan didn’t move, his face grim. “I don’t have time to deal with you!”
In the past, Bella would have been afraid and tried to appease Nathan. But now, she wasn’t scared of him at all.
“Mr. Quinn, think about it. If you deal with this now, you’ll never have to deal with me again for the rest of your life.”
