Chapter 2

In the big, bright living room, a glass of cold water was dumped over her head. Bella shivered under the moonlight.

The guy next to her tossed the empty glass on the ground, his voice full of disgust. “Are you awake? If not, go jump in the pool outside and wake up!”

Bella slowly looked up, dazed, seeing the man she’d loved for half her life glaring at her. Didn’t she die in a car crash?

She looked around, and memories slowly clicked into place.

Two years ago, she accidentally broke a watch Nathan cherished. He stormed out and didn’t come back all night. She found out later it was a gift from Julia, and she was furious he cared more about gifts from other women than her. Back then, she was young and hot-headed, so she confronted him, and they fought… Bella quickly realized she’d been given a second chance. The Foster family was still intact, and she hadn’t hit rock bottom yet.

Nathan was clearly pissed, but he was holding it in. The Foster family still had power, but that didn’t stop him from being cold to her. “Starting tomorrow, I’m moving out. Go ahead and throw your tantrum alone. You should look in the mirror. Do you even look like a proper lady?”

Bella stared at him and said, “Nathan, you’re my legal husband, but you’ve always had a shady thing going on with Julia. Ever taken a good look at yourself?”

“You’ve got the nerve to talk?” Nathan frowned. “If you hadn’t forced me, would I have married you?”

Bella laughed bitterly, “So that’s what you really think…” The truth was, Nathan’s family was in trouble and needed money. He couldn’t find help, so someone suggested marrying into the Foster family to get their support. Nathan played it cool and proposed to her.

Everyone knew Bella was head over heels for Nathan, so when he proposed, she felt like the luckiest girl ever. She hadn’t even finished school before marrying him and pushing her grandpa to bail out the Quinn family.

She closed her eyes and spoke calmly. She missed her chance to see things clearly before, but she wouldn’t mess up again. “You don’t have to move out. Haven’t you always wanted a divorce? I’m in.”

After Nathan left, Bella packed her bags, ready to go. She carried her suitcase out of the room, and the butler came over and took it from her.

She raised an eyebrow, “Thanks.”

The butler walked her downstairs. “Ma’am, where are you going?”

“Home.” Seeing the confusion on his face, she added, “Back to the Foster family.”

“Does Master Nathan know?” the butler asked.

“I told him,” she replied.

That morning, when they talked about the divorce, she mentioned she’d move back to her family that afternoon. Nathan didn’t react at all and just left. No matter how he reacted, she was done with this marriage.

The butler knew about the divorce talk but hadn’t believed it. Now, though, he hesitated. He had watched Nathan grow up and wanted them to work it out. He couldn’t help but advise, “Ma’am, couples fight sometimes. Since you care about Master Nathan, don’t make rash decisions…”

Bella replied calmly, “But he doesn’t care about me. After all these years, can’t you see that? Divorce is the only option for us. Instead of causing a scene later, it’s better for everyone to keep some dignity now.”

More importantly, after experiencing life and death, she was just tired.

The butler watched her leave, feeling a sense of dread. Ma’am wasn’t coming back.

Bella moved quickly. The next day, she hired a lawyer to draft the divorce papers and sent them straight to the Quinn Corporation. The marriage between the Quinn and Foster families, two powerful companies, was complicated. But Bella didn’t want anything. Two simple pages ended their marriage.

When Nathan got the divorce papers, he sneered. He knew Bella too well. Did she really think she could make a scene and force him to apologize? She was dreaming.

He threw the papers back on the table, his face indifferent. “Did she say anything?”

The lawyer replied respectfully, “She said she’ll be waiting for you at City Hall tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock. She hopes you’ll be on time.”

“Got it.” Nathan casually fed the papers into the shredder, not caring at all. As for Bella divorcing him? No way. She was like glue—impossible to shake off.
