Chapter 3
Five years later.
“Miss Elizabeth, this way please.”
The receptionist couldn’t believe that Elizabeth, the fashion designer who made a name for herself in Paris, was actually a young woman. And she already had a son.
Elizabeth looked stunning with her smooth skin, elegant features, and bright eyes. She wore a classic black dress that highlighted her long, slender legs. Her red lips were slightly curled, giving her an air of sophistication and making her seem unapproachable.
The young boy with her shared her refined features. His dark eyes looked like black grapes, and he was dressed in the style of an English gentleman—elegant and handsome.
As they headed to the elevator, the receptionist couldn’t help but crouch and ask the boy, “Hey, kiddo. What’s your name?”
The boy smiled sweetly. “My name is Henry.”
“That’s a nice name!”
“Of course.” The toddler grinned. “Mommy picked it.”
The elevator doors opened, but just as the receptionist was about to speak, another woman rushed up and hugged Elizabeth.
“Elizabeth, I’ve missed you so much!”
“Get off. You’re choking me.” Nearly out of breath, Elizabeth quickly pulled Claire off her neck.
“Oh my, Julie is so adorable! Give me a kiss!”
Unfazed, Claire pinched the boy’s cheeks affectionately.
The boy waved his little hand in front of his nose. “Sister Claire, you didn’t brush your teeth.”
“Nonsense!”
Claire tapped the toddler’s forehead. “You rascal, just a few days apart and you need a beating!”
Sticking his tongue out, the boy ran to hide behind his mother’s legs.
Elizabeth asked coolly, “Claire, how’s the company been these days?”
Claire threw a cautious glance at the receptionist. Flustered, she said, “I should leave. Please, continue.”
“Guess what I heard!” Claire said in a lowered voice after looking around. “Did you know? The guang tech Group is about to be bought out!”
“An acquisition?” Elizabeth felt uneasy with the bad news, especially after just receiving an invitation. “By whom?”
“Evergreen Broadcasting!” Claire was increasingly agitated. “Oh my god, I might faint!”
Elizabeth frowned. “Evergreen Broadcasting?”
Having spent the past few years taking care of her son, she hadn’t kept up with business news.
Claire looked starstruck. “Evergreen Broadcasting is the huge company owned by the Anderson family! They’ve been talking with guang tech group lately, and there are rumors that a hottie will be brought in as president!”
Elizabeth shook her head. “Where did you hear that? Have you met this hottie?”
“I haven’t. But I’m sure the new president will be an Anderson!”
***
Four years ago, after Elizabeth gave birth to her son, one of the outfits she designed won top prize in a Paris competition.
She skyrocketed to fame, with the Anderson Group offering her a chief designer position. To avoid trouble, Elizabeth sent Claire—her assistant of three years—to check things out at the company. She didn’t expect there would be a leadership change before she even arrived.
“Henry, play with Claire for a while. Mommy has work to do.”
Crouching, Elizabeth gently patted her son’s head.
Five years ago, when she was at her lowest, fleeing overseas while pregnant, she sometimes resented her son, thinking he was the cause of her troubles.
But once he was born, she realized all her sacrifices were worth it.
“Got it, Mom!”
The boy saluted with his tiny hand, looking cute and charming.
Elizabeth knocked on an office door and walked in.
“Hello, Miss Elizabeth. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you.” Chairman stone greeted her with an apologetic smile. “Unfortunately, the company is about to change ownership… right after we invited you to join us.”
Elizabeth smiled faintly, carrying herself with the grace of a mature woman. “It’s okay, Chairman stone. But why is your company being bought out by Evergreen Broadcasting?”
Before arriving, Elizabeth had taken the time to learn about the guang tech group. While not the top company in Riverside Town, they were influential.
So why would such a big company be acquired almost on a whim?
Chairman stone sighed. “Miss Elizabeth, the Anderson family has run the company for generations and excelled abroad. But in Riverside Town, one big player can’t share space with another. Four years ago, the Anderson family was declining, but they managed to start Evergreen Broadcasting and quickly took over Europe… You might not know this, but since Evergreen Broadcasting’s rise, all major companies in Riverside Town have been acquired.”
Chairman Lee seemed scared just mentioning it.
Elizabeth was slightly shocked.
Growing up in Riverside Town, she knew the Anderson family well. They were a powerful family that had dominated the city for over a century. But when their head of the household suddenly died, the family fell apart, and rumors said someone seized the chance to take over, leaving them in ruins.
She never imagined that after just four years, the Anderson family would come back so strong and make a mark in Europe as true leaders.
From what Chairman stone said, Elizabeth could tell that the Anderson family had a formidable force behind them.
