Five

Toyin held onto Rebecca’s arm as they walked into the dining hall. They both talked about what they didn’t understand about the last class and even if there was no book in front of her; Toyin still patiently explained to Rebecca who nodded carefully and at the same time scribbling a few things in her arm.

Toyin then told her to stop as she could always re-explain to Rebecca when she had a jotter where she could jot. Sending her flying kisses, Toyin laughed at Rebecca’s actions as they approached their table. She looked around searching for Femi as she internally prayed he wasn’t around; else she wouldn’t be able to eat anything. He would either pour the food away or snatch it and eat it right in her front. One of her favourite ways of bullying her; he liked making her go hungry for no reason at all.

Toyin got to her table and sat down after Rebecca. Seeing that there was just one extra food and that Rebecca had taken it, Toyin asked for hers even though she already had a guess of what had happened to it “Where’s my food?” Toyin asked.

“Your boyfriend has taken it” someone said with a snicker as Toyin groaned and stood up.

“I’ll see you in the hostel” Toyin said as she strolled out of the dining hall.

Before Femi wasn’t this aggressive, after they resumed SSS3, he got more aggressive and most times, Toyin found herself going hungry. She had to make up with the snacks she found in the hostel and sometimes Rebecca would forfeit her food for her which was very rare since Rebecca was a foodie.

Toyin walked back to the class to take her meal card before heading to the Buttery to get some snacks. Most of the snacks had finished by the time Toyin got there.

“So what do you have left?” Toyin asked.

“Samosa. Spring roll, chin chin, fish pie and fried bananas” the attendant replied.

Toyin sighed immediately “Two fish pies and a bottle of sprite” Toyin said.

The attendant walked to the show glass as she picked a tray and placed what Toyin had requested on the tray. Toyin swiped her meal card with the scanner as she walked to an empty table.

Toyin ate slowly as she looked around the desolated buttery. Her teen life was a mess all thanks to a particular somebody called Femi Williams. It was harder to hate him even after mistreating all those years. Toyin hated herself for not being able to hate him. Most cases, she never said a word and never argued with him.

“There’s nothing interesting in teenage hood after all” Toyin muttered as she took a deep breath and released it before shaking her head.

Toyin walked slowly to her hostel the wind slightly swaying her small structure. Toyin yawned as she stepped into her dormitory and fell on her bed. She wanted to sleep more than anything. She carefully removed her shoes as she lied down on her bed and slept off.
