Chapter 16 It's Okay to Be Conceited

Beckett's words left Georgia completely bewildered. How could this be an honor? The Adams family was only a second-rate family in Hiphia, with mere tens of millions in family assets, not even reaching a billion, while the Atkinson Group's investments in Hiphia alone were over five billion.

"Madam, if you think there's no problem, please sign here," Beckett said, pointing to the signature line.

Georgia swallowed nervously, double-checked the contract and asked, "Mr. Robinson, is this really our contract?"

Beckett pondered for a moment before asking, "Is there something wrong with this contract? If there is, you can just modify it directly."

"No, no, no! There's nothing wrong," Georgia quickly replied, then raised her hand and signed her name on the contract.

When Georgia walked out after signing the contract, she still found it all incredibly surreal, as if she were dreaming. She had actually signed a contract with the Atkinson Group, and the terms were all in her favor.

She sat at the entrance of the Atkinson Group for a whole hour to calm herself down before heading home. When she got there, she didn't know that her whole family had already been anxiously waiting for her. As soon as she got to the door, old Mrs. Adams, followed by a group of people, walked towards her.

Old Mrs. Adams asked excitedly while walking, "Georgia, how did the contract negotiations go? Did you sign it?"

Georgia, looking at all the people behind her, still felt somewhat bewildered.

Before she could answer, Jamie's mother, Emmalynn Hogan, said, "Mom, do you even have to ask? You can tell from her face that she obviously didn't sign it. If she had, she would have come home running and screaming."

Jamie sneered and said, "Exactly, Grandma. I told you it's not that easy to seal this contract."

"So we waited all day for nothing, thinking that she had signed the contract!"

"Yeah, what is this? A whole morning wasted!"

"..."

The group of people started complaining, old Mrs. Adams then asked, looking a bit disappointed as well, "Georgia, where's the contract?"

Scarlett, who was standing aside, asked nervously, "Georgia, did you sign the contract?"

Georgia huffed and took the newly signed contract out of the bag in her hand, and said, "Here it is!"

Old Mrs. Adams exclaimed in delight as she took the contract. She brought it close to her eyes and saw that it indeed bore the words "Material Supply Agreement of the Atkinson Group".

"Bring me my reading glasses!" old Mrs. Adams ordered one of her secretaries.

Soon, old Mrs. Adams put on her glasses and began reading through the contract carefully.

She read it over at least three times and, after half an hour, finally put down the contract reluctantly. Then she clasped her hands together all excited and said to the heavens, "Oh my, God is blessing the Adams family, God is truly blessing the Adams family."

Saying this, she walked over to Georgia, grabbed her hands, and said with excitement, "Georgia, good child, you are truly the most outstanding kid in our family."

"Scarlett, you've raised a wonderful daughter, a truly wonderful daughter," old Mrs. Adams put her thumbs-up towards Scarlett. Scarlett instantly lit up, smiling. She had waited this moment for so long. Now she could finally be proud in front of the whole family.

"This is all thanks to everyone always looking out for Georgia, which is why she could have succeeded. I always knew she would make me proud one day. Sometimes, raising a daughter is better than raising a son." She looked at Emmalynn intentionally, with a smug smile on her face.

Emmalynn forced a smile, her face extremely unpleasant, and her heart was filled with jealousy and resentment. Jamie glared at Georgia with hatred. From his point view, this contract should have been signed by him.

Suddenly, a man's voice came from outside. "Congratulations, Mrs. Adams! Congratulations indeed."

Tony Scott walked in, looking stylish and well-groomed, as if he had put in a lot of effort into his appearance.

"And who is this?" Old Mrs. Adams, not recognizing Tony, asked.

Scarlett quickly introduced, "Mom, this is Mr. Scott, the one that brought all that gifts to Georgia a few days ago. His father is Bobby Scott, chairman of the Southwest Brewery. Tony was Georgia's classmate. He joined the army right after high school, and had only returned recently after his retirement. He specially brought all that gifts over to Georgia just to express his love for her."

"What?" Old Mrs. Adams' eyes instantly went wide with surprise. She pointed at Tony with a trembling finger, looking him over for a few seconds, and finally said, "So, you mean those gifts were from Mr. Scott?"

Tony quickly took old Mrs. Adams's hand and said, "Madam, yes, I truly like Georgia. I fell for her at first sight already in high school. All these years in the army, I've always liked her. I just didn't expect her to marry a fool. That's the greatest injustice to her, so I decided to take a chance."

"Oh my!" Old Mrs. Adams laughed and said, "I didn't expect you to be the heir to the Scott family. You're truly a talented young man, achieving so much at such a young age. It's very admirable."

Tony replied 'humbly', "Not at all. I'm merely a deputy commander of the Southwest region. Perhaps in another year or two, I'll become the chief commander of the Southwest."

In reality, Tony wasn't a deputy commander, he was merely a deputy captain. But the Adams family didn't know that and believed a deputy commander was an impressive position. So Tony had soon earned many admiring glances. When they looked at Georgia, their eyes were filled with either envy or jealousy.

While everyone was admiring Tony, someone asked, "So about the contract, it goes without saying that Mr. Scott must have used his connections to help Georgia to sign it, right?"

Tony was stunned for a moment. Connections? What connections could he have? He didn't even know who the head of the Atkinson Group was. He looked at Georgia, a bit embarrassed, and said, "Actually, I didn't want Georgia to know about this, but at this point, I will have to admit it. Yes, I did ask the head of the Atkinson Group to help with the contract."

"You know the head of the Atkinson Group?" In the Southwest, the head of the Atkinson Group was a prominent figure. Everyone knew that he was retired from the military and had an impressive status and formidable influence.

Tony smiled and said, "He was my leader in the army and always looked out for me. We are quite good friends and often go out for drinks and to talk. This kind of favor easy to ask of him."
