Chapter 14: An Apology Visit!

Georgia was visibly startled. It really was Jamie! How did Kayden know?

With great curiosity, she went to open the door, wondering if Jamie had indeed come to ask her to sign the contract.

As soon as the door opened, she saw Jamie's face full of disgust. He glanced at Georgia disdainfully, then gave her a thumbs up. "Impressive, truly impressive! I never thought you, Georgia, would be this kind of person."

Georgia was bewildered. She looked at Jamie quizzically and asked, "What do you mean? Are you out of your mind?"

"Hah!" Jamie sighed, "I never imagined you'd be like this, Georgia. To think you'd stoop so low to sign this contract. Tell me, did you sleep with Beckett?"

Georgia was stunned by these words. She stared at Jamie with utter shock. Jamie had always been excessive, but she usually ignored him. Today, however, he had crossed a line. This was pure slander, the greatest insult to her.

"It's obvious. That idiot husband of yours doesn't know anything. You've been at the company for three years - surely this is how you've managed it, right?"

"Smack!" Georgia couldn't hold back anymore. She raised her hand and punched Jamie hard.

This punch caught Jamie off guard, making him stagger and nearly fall.

Twice. This was the second time he'd been hit today. The security guard was one thing, but now even this fool Georgia dared to hit him. Enraged, he raised his hand to grab Georgia's throat but stopped himself at the last moment.

If this continued, the contract would be completely ruined, and Old Mrs. Adams would blame him.

This was Jamie's most level-headed moment. He touched his cheek and nodded repeatedly at Georgia. "You've got guts to hit me. Grandma wants you to go to the Atkinson Group to discuss the contract. You must sign it today. If you don't, you'll have to deal with Grandma's wrath!"

With that, he turned to leave. He wouldn't lower himself to Georgia. Ever since Georgia married an idiot, he had treated her like one too. Bowing to Georgia would be the last thing he would do.

But after just two steps, Georgia called out, "Wait!"

Jamie stopped in his tracks, turned his head, and asked impatiently, "What?"

Georgia said coldly, "I've already left the Adams family, so I'm no longer part of it. This contract is for the Adams family and has nothing to do with me. Go back and tell Grandma I won't sign it!" With that, she slammed the door shut.

"You-" Jamie was so angry he nearly coughed up blood.

"You're really rebelling now. Just wait until I tell Grandma. She'll come to deal with you personally. You'd better watch out." With that, Jamie stormed off home.

Georgia was somewhat worried and scared. For three years, she had always been cautious, afraid of offending Old Mrs. Adams. It was precisely this caution that had created a sense of fear towards Old Mrs. Adams in her mind.

Jamie returned home and told Old Mrs. Adams everything.

Of course, he embellished the story, portraying Georgia as extremely arrogant, which infuriated Old Mrs. Adams. After a string of reproaches, she finally calmed down enough to ask Jamie, "Did she really hit you?"

Jamie touched his face and said, "Yes, Grandma. You must stand up for me!"

"Did you say something to her first?" Old Mrs. Adams asked, unusually calm.

"I... I..." Jamie stammered, unable to get the words out. Old Mrs. Adams sighed and complained, "How can you blame her? You brought this on yourself. You must have said something offensive to Georgia. Come on, let's go apologize to her."

"Apologize for what?" Jamie asked, confused.

"Oh, for God's sake!" Old Mrs. Adams stamped her foot in frustration. "How can you be so stupid? How can I ever trust you with the company? Right now, she's the only one who can negotiate this contract. Our whole family must cooperate with her."

When Kayden returned home after 4 p.m., Georgia hadn't gone out job hunting but had stayed at home, troubled. The incident at noon had upset her greatly. She never imagined Jamie would slander her like that.

All these years, she had maintained her innocence, never doing anything against her principles. Yet Jamie had said such things to her - the greatest insult to a woman.

Seeing Kayden return, Georgia asked curiously, "Hey, Kayden!"

Kayden didn't look at Georgia, but as he took off his coat, he asked, "Did Jamie come to see you?"

"Yes," Georgia replied, puzzled. "How did you know he would come?"

Kayden didn't answer her question. "Did you refuse him?"

Georgia nodded again. "I did."

"He'll be back," Kayden replied calmly.

Kayden's words made Georgia's heart skip a beat. She asked, "How do you know?"

"Knock knock knock!" Before Kayden could answer, there was a knock at the door.

Georgia exchanged a glance with Kayden, then called out, "Who is it?"

Old Mrs. Adams' voice came from outside. "It's me, Georgia. Open up!"

Georgia looked at Kayden with extreme surprise, but Kayden remained calm, as if he had known all along that Old Mrs. Adams would come.

Georgia went to open the door and saw Old Mrs. Adams and Jamie standing outside.

"Grandma, why are you here?" Georgia asked, feigning surprise. In fact, Old Mrs. Adams hadn't visited her house once in the past three years.

Old Mrs. Adams, with a face full of smiles, said, "Georgia, my dear, I came specially to see you. May I come in to talk?"

Georgia hurriedly made way for Old Mrs. Adams, inviting her in.

No matter how biased she was, she was still Georgia's grandmother - that was an undeniable fact!

Once inside, Old Mrs. Adams looked around before sitting down on the sofa.

After Georgia sat down as well, Old Mrs. Adams said earnestly, "Georgia, I know Jamie must have said something offensive to you earlier. I've already reprimanded him and brought him here to apologize."

She then turned to Jamie sternly. "Jamie, hurry up and apologize to your sister!"

Jamie swallowed hard and lowered his head. "I'm sorry, Georgia. I shouldn't have spoken to you like that earlier. Look, you've already hit me, and Grandma has scolded me. Can't you just let it go?"
