Two.
I woke to the tweeting of the birds outside my window. I lifted my head groggily and stretched as I tried to get feeling back into my arm. Sleeping on the desk was uncomfortable but after a moment, I remembered the stranger. I stood and went to mix more herbs together and start a tonic before taking it to where he was still unconscious. I moved the blanket and went to get another basin of water. I changed the dressing on his wound before using a clean cloth to gently wipe the cold sweat from his neck and face. I pressed a hand against his forehead to find he was having a fever. I was only at the level of a fairy immortal, so I didn't have much poweress, but I still stood and prepared myself before trying to use my internal energy to heal him.
I was a bit weak, but I still tried. This was the one time I wished I had focused more on cultivating. By the time I felt the wound start to heal, I was straining with effort. The stranger groaned as I fell to my knees beside the bed as I panted. The stranger fidgeted before his eyes opened. I lifted my head, using the sleeve of of my dress to dab the sweat from my own jaw.
"You're awake?" I asked, putting my own issues aside for the moment. I took his hand and pressed my fingers against his wrist to check his pulse. It was a but more steady now. I smiled as I sat back on my heels.
"I'm relieved," I breathed. The stranger looked at me curiously and confused before he attempted to sit up. He grunted before holding his side.
"You saved me? Why would you do that?" He asked.
"I couldn't leave you lying in the forest," I responded. I went to the side room and put the tonic I brewed in a bowl and took it to him. I blew on it gently before offering it to him.
"This should help some," I said. He glanced at me before sipping it obediently. When he handed it back, I set it aside before reaching to touch his forehead. He backed away before my hand touched him.
"You're a cultivating lady. Why would you save me? Don't you know what I am?" He asked in confusion.
"You were hurt. I couldn't leave you there," I said as I put my hand out to his head again. He held my hand in place to stop me.
"Can you not tell that I'm a demon?" He asked bluntly. I paused before looking at him. I guess my internal energy was still too low to tell.
"I don't see what that has to do with anything," I answered honestly. I knew what he meant. For eons, demons ran wild across the three realms, including their own. Only after my mother suppressed them with my First Uncle, a royal family was established in the Demon Realm to maintain order. Those of the demon royal family were the only ones who were allowed to roam the three realms freely. The demon royalty often visited the Heavenly Palace for meeting matters, but the immortals of the Heavenly Realm still looked down on demons. They were contained, but not accepted. None of that mattered to me.
"Thank you... for saving me, but I think it's best I leave," he said. As he tried to get up, I pushed his shoulder down.
"I don't have much poweress. What I did was merely to keep your fever down and protect your vital channels. Your wound hasn't healed fully. I think it would be best for you to stay put until it does," I said sternly. The stranger puffed out a breath before sitting up straight and bringing his hands together in front of him.
"I'm Demon Prince Rocnor," he introduced himself.
"Fairy Immortal Amie," I said out of habit. I was so used to the people around me calling me by my nickname that I accidentally used it instead of my a actual name.
"Where are we?" He asked. I handed the tonic back to him.
"Unclaimed territory outside of Floral Island. Don't worry. This place is only know with my brother and me," I explained.
"I can't tell if you're just naive or stupid. I told you I was a demon. Why would you tell me that we're alone? Plus, it's improper for a man and woman to be alone for too long. Let alone spending the night together. Shouldn't you care more?" He questioned. I sighed before standing. In truth, it wasn't something I thought about at the time. Growing up mostly on Floral Island, the rules of Heaven weren't as deeply engrained in me as it would be for other immortals.
"You were injured. I couldn't care about the rules of a society I don't really care about anyway. You should rest. I have plants to tend to," I responded. I curtsied slightly before going back to tend to my garden and cultivate a bit. I realized how weak I really was. I spent the next few weeks taking care of Rocnor there, and learning more about him. As blunt as he was with his words, he was actually very kind. When he was able to move around again, he started helping me with the garden and the cooking. Rocnor was a terrible cook.
"Just keep the first steady," I laughed, seeing the soot on his face as I walked into the kitchen. He used his internal energy to keep the fire steady while I cooked in the large pot above it. I made porridge before we sat down to eat. After we ate, I sat him down to check his wound. I examined the bare skin carefully on his abdomen
"I think the wound is almost fully healed," I said with a small smile before cleaning the area and dressing it again. With me not worrying about his wound so much, I actually noticed the details of the muscles in his chest and abdomen.
"I feel I have to thank you properly for taking me in and nursing me back to health," he said seriously. I smiled and helped him put his arms through his robe.
"Amie, what the hell do you think you're doing?" A voice called to me. I turned to see Tyrian standing in the doorway watching me and the half-dressed demon prince.
