chapter 7

EVELYN'S POV.

A loud gasp escaped my throat while I sat up in bed, my eyes darting across the room.

“Hell no.” I muttered beneath my breath. Another nightmare! How much more of the torture was I required to keep on? It wasn't my fault, yet I couldn't escape. I had a nightmare again about being banished from the pack and Linda's death. It was Daniel's fault for reminding me.

I felt pain thug at my belly; I couldn't help the mere thoughts of them coming to knock on my door once again.

A knock resounded on my door. I shook on impulse.

“Miss? Are you in?” The voice came on again. I recalled staying up at a motel, but it had been a woman in charge.

“Miss Evelyn?” The voice called out in another tone of urgency, and I strutted slowly through the door. I peered through the hole to see two strange looking men by the door. And then one had a gun on him.

“Holy Hell!” I muttered beneath my breath before dashing back into the room slowly. I knocked over a bottle while I reached for my bag.

“She's in,” one of the voices had called out, and they had begun kicking against my door. I sprinted into the bathroom. My eyes peered out slightly. There was a window, but it was far from the floor. I tossed my bag over the window before jumping through it as well, landing on my feet. It was a good thing. I took my training sessions in the pack really seriously.

I pulled away from the floor and picked up my bag hastily before dashing into the streets. My heart pounded in my chest, and instantly I froze in the spot. There were two more coming ahead.

“For goodness sake.” I cursed beneath my breath. They've got to be kidding me. I sprinted down the alley. It was a good thing. I was sure as hell when it got down to my surroundings.

I turned down an alley, and towards a corridor, the backstreet, and back towards the major road, I sighed deeply, seeing they were no longer after me.

I drew out my phone; I knew I needed to find some other place to stay, at least away from their prying eyes, but nothing came on; nothing rang a bell.

I swallowed hard, rolling my eyes, seeing they caught up to me. A young man had gotten in front of me. Hastily, I took to the handle and bolted the door locked.

“I'm sorry, but please, drive!” I snapped; he passed me a questioning gaze, but then ignited the engine in his car. I didn't feel good about it, but eventually I lost them.

I sighed from pent-up frustration, feeling way better, and slouched my shoulders before resting my arms against the chair

“Thank you.” I whispered before highlighting that he had not questioned me, although his watchful gaze still remained on mine, and I was grateful that he wasn't the prying type.

I hailed a cab right behind him.

I had to meet up with some clients who would sneak me into a corrupt man's party. I needed more information on him before creating a blog and bringing him down to ruins.

But just how did my life suddenly take a drastic turn? One night I'm running from Sebastian and his beta, and the next I'm hiding from the gruesome bodyguards of corrupt people, and they all want me dead.

My eyes darted across the halls, taking pictures slowly. I had snuck my phone in even when it was against the rules of the party. I was all done. I got the necessary things I needed to have him thrown behind bars. Slush funds were sent in the form of paintings. He was a smart guy, wasn't he?.

“Mam! No phones!” A guard snapped and approached me while I tried tucking the phone away.

“Hand your phone over to me.” He added in again. My throat ran dry while I listened to his words.

“I'm sorry, but... it’... It's kind of important.“ I whispered, and he jerked my arms, tightening his grip against mine while I winced in pain, trying to wriggle away from him.

“Take your hands off her!” A cold voice snapped and approached, and the guard shook and bowed.

“Oh you..”

“She's with me, and you won't speak of this!” He ordered and took my arms to his while we both turned on our feet and headed towards the main entrance.

I had said nothing, my heart beating rapidly. I felt the hot gaze of the guard burn through my skin, and I dared not make a single mistake.

“Thank you, again.” I muttered beneath my breath, sighing out loud while I ran my hands through my hair. I checked through the pictures on my phone, which relieved me while I paced back at these questioning shades of perfect blue orbs.

“What's your deal?” He asked out of the blue, and I pursed up my lips and tilted my head a bit.

“Why aren't you curious?“ I asked fondly, a little confused, if he had been the first man who didn't pry unnecessarily in my business or waste time baselessly by acting like the shining knight in shining armor.

“Why should I be? Although I'll say it's best that you come with me, just for your sake, do you see that?” He pointed towards the rear mirror, and I could see a black car behind us.

“They'll tail us until we get home, just to be sure you are with me.” I Headed in, and a loud scaffold escaped my throat.

“Isn't it just great?!” I snapped, anger and bitterness reeling into me.

“why? What's wrong?” He asked fondly while I shook.

So far, it has been nothing important.

“I have to find a place to sleep tonight, and I'll have to play make-believe with the guards, which gives me absolutely no time to think.” I lashed out with rage, almost like it had been his fault.

He smiled, ignited the engine in the car, and stepped on the accelerator.

“I can solve that; I have plenty of rooms; you can stay with me, by the way. I'm Marcel, by name.”
