Chapter 1
EVELYN'S POV.
“I'll make you Luna right after your birthday, I promise.“ Sebastian's words echoed in my mind while I twirled before the mirror, glancing down at the pink romper he had gotten for me as a birthday gift two days ago when we last met in secret, just like we always did.
Sebastian and I had been lovers for about four years now; although there had been a status difference between us, it had still not mattered much between us, and I knew for a fact we were to be announced as mates as soon as possible.
It was my eighteenth birthday. I waited so long for this. All through the years I pushed forward, it was finally the night of the full moon when I'd have to shift for the first time through the years.
Joy filled my heart as a smile lit up on my face. I took one last glance before walking out of the room.
“Happy birthday, Evelyn.” People greeted me while I walked past them. My mind was filled with pure joy as I hoped for the night to pass through and the morning to settle in.
I caught Sebastian in the corner of my eye. Of course, he was the alpha and had gotten quite a lot of traits that his father had gotten, and it was safe to say he was the most handsome wolf in the pack, with his ginger-coloured hair, blue orbs, square-chin pointed nose, dimples, and the manner in which he carried himself with an air of arrogance.
I already pictured myself right next to him, beaming with smiles. We were going to make the perfect couple, I knew, so he approached me slowly, and my heart raced in my chest as he finally stood by my side.
“Happy birthday, my love. Are you ready, the moon is almost up? '' he added in, and I cast my gaze onto the moon, which had already risen and was close to its peak.
“Yeah, yes, I am Sebastian,“ I responded, chirping happily and muffling a giggle. My longtime dreams were just about to come true.
“Everyone is here to see you glow in the spotlight. I didn't come with gifts, but I'll bear greater ones for you tomorrow.” He reassured me, his tone hoarse and sultry as his lips brushed past my earlobes faintly, sending shivers down my spine.
I nodded, enjoying the warmth as it reeled into me, sending Tingle's down my spine.
He walked past me, but not before passing me a wink and giving me the most flirtatious look I had ever seen. My cheeks flushed red from embarrassment while I pulled away from him, enjoying the happiness that came along with it.
“Evelyn dear… It is time.” Mother Seraphine had called out to me; she had been the one who trained how to tame our wolves and keep up with being the other half to... And finally, it was time I graduated from her class and became a true wolf of my own. With every pair of eyes in the pack ground pinned against mine, with each step I took, my heart thudded in my chest. I knew the truth was by far going to hurt, but then, I had only a little bit of time left to cuddle up the entire thing.
I stepped into the light down below the moon as it reached its peak, radiating all of its glory while it bloomed up to my heart. I was prepared more than I closed my eyes trying to connect with it. I felt a presence in me, just as Mother seraphine had taught.
I tried as hard as I could to have it pushed first. Trying to shift, I felt the breeze pass me. My bones weren't breaking like they were meant to, and my body wasn't on fire like it should be. I didn't seem to feel anything else taking control of me.
Low murmurs erupted amongst the crowd. I tried again and again, to no avail. The low murmurs had erupted into loud talks now, with everyone giving their opinion.
“I can't! It's not working!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, filled with rage. My eyes landed against those of Sebastian. I saw plain disgust in his eyes. I irritated him, I was sure.
He pulled away slowly and walked right towards my side, joy filling my heart I felt more encouraged realising that he wasn't embarrassed of me, my mate stood by my side, by all means he was prepared to fill me with happiness… seeing that a few seconds ago I was scared that I may have embarrassed him ans there he was now standing tall by my side. Was he really going to claim me as his mate now of all times.
“Now that I've gone beyond attention, I believe we have seen enough for tonight... We can't blame Evelyn not everyone is born special.” His words had grazed through my heart. I was pained hearing his opinion; bitterness engulfed me. I didn't understand what he was aiming at, and neither did the crowd.
“But there is always joy in chaos, good things in bad times, so as the Alpha but to the pack, I'm using this moment to declare that I have chosen a Luna to the pack. Marie Hayes, Nathan Hayes child, the beta of this pack will be my Mate and Luna!” Sebastian explained, his eyes pinned against mine, my soul shattered in my body, and tears off my eyes.
Sebastian had betrayed me.
He lied to me; all along I had been a pawn in the games. A grim crawled up to the aides' cheeks while I balled my trying to get sick in pain that reeked in me. I tucked to my feet's walking as fast as I could. Down to the woods, where I could get my solace as my heart ripped with each step I took.
I had been in love, like a fool, I believed everything he said and did, but love screwed me over. My own mate, my lover had betrayed me.
