chapter 4

EVELYN'S POV

I tensed up as warm arms wrapped behind my waist.

”pregnant? What do you mean by that?" I asked, striken with fear as the words rolled off my tongue bitterly.

"Goodness, you really don't remember anything do you?" He asked again, I bit on my lower lip before nodding slowly, I had to lie, I couldnt tell him I came from werewolf territory,

It was a secret I had to keep for the sake of our kind, a single mistake or word from me could cause war.

"I'm sorry, maybe with time youll get your memory back, I'm edward by name okay? You can stay here for as long as you want, I'll be here" he reassured me still tapping his hands slowly sgainst my back.

The slow rythms kept comforting me, edward....that's his name, he didnt seem like much of a harm,he looked handsome as well,

"You dont have to worry, I'll take care of you." he added I'n again.

***************

It's been a year and seven months since I got to the land of humans, as I had first called it. I recalled those words piercing through my heart like sharp daggers. Hearing the words that Sabastine had spoken to me a year ago, it ate me up, killed me slowly, and I could barely believe I was pregnant. And it was for Sebastian; he had been the only man I had been with, well, in the past.

But I know my story. Stick to it. I claimed I had no memory whatsoever of the past, and Edward had helped, took me in, fed me, and provided for me until he asked me out.

I wasn't doing too much; he had rented an apartment for me, filled up my kitchen at the brim with food, paid my bills, and I on the other hand stayed at home. Well, I was his girlfriend, I suppose he had not asked the big question yet but I knew it wasn't important; he could take his time for as long as he wanted before asking me to be his wife; he was doing enough already.

Yet I could not thug off the memories of the past—the night I woke up, dripping with sweat, nights from terrible dreams—that I might recall being unable to shift. Being betrayed by Sebastian made those nights the worst.

I smiled, feeling Edwards' arms around mine while we both peered into the cot.

“She's sick again!” Edward asked, worry laced into his tone, and I nodded. Linda is my child, a child of the past, a constant reminder of my mistake, but Edward was a reminder that not all men are the same.

“Yes, she acted up; she came up with a fever; I'd hate to wake her now.” I responded, and he nodded slowly and intertwined his fingers with mine before pulling me slowly towards the main room.

“I'll drop you off at the hospital tomorrow; I'll have the doctor run tests and treat her; take a cab home, not a bus, “he responded again and leaned into me.

A frown formed on my face. I didn't like it. Linda was in and out of the hospital, and I felt like a terrible mother. Of course, they were never sure what was wrong with her, but I knew it. She was a young pup, and all she needed was to be around her father and wolves like her.

I didn't know how to teach her; I didn't want her to learn either, but I knew what was wrong with her. She was a wolf after all, just as I was, and the human world wasn't meant for us.

“Don't be sorry, love; she'll be fine; our daughter will grow up to be the most beautiful woman, prettier than her mother to be fair.” Edward reassured me, complimenting me in the process.

I loved how involved he was in our lives, always calling her his child. And not for once had he spoken of the fact that I was from the woods or that he was never her father; he always treated her like his, and maybe even better times, I was lucky to have him, and it was true; I don't ever want to lose him. I always believed humans were vile and despicable creatures; I was wrong; they weren't.

He leaned in for a kiss, and I moaned into the touch, enjoying the feeling of his moist lips upon mine, but he pulled away, just like always.

“Please stay.” I whispered, embarrassed that I had spoken, but it had been a year. And he had not had any intimacy with me.

He stared directly into my orbs, gazing for so long that it scared me for a while, but then I wasn't going to back down; I wanted him. I was a woman too, and I needed my needs met.

Without taking his time, he pressed his lips against mine. While I moaned continuously to no restraint, and he kept at it... until we were locked into our own room, beneath the duvet, exploring each other's bodies.

*********

“What's wrong, Edward? You've been acting out all through the night!“ I snapped. I was unable to control my anger anymore as we both emerged from the car and headed into the room.

I want to be certain about what it was about. We had woken up with the brightest smile on our faces after a great night. He dropped Linda and me off at the hospital, but he has kept up with a gruff attitude since we arrived.

“If I did anything wrong, then speak!” I snapped again while laying Linda off in her cot.

“Nothing; I'd like to be by myself tonight, Evelyn. I'll stay up at my house for the meantime“ he responded. He wasn't staring directly into my orbs; I could feel the anger he reeked into me.

Sweat trickled off my temples while I listened to his words.

“Was it because of the sex?” I blurted out, wanting to know; his eyes bore into mine immediately; he still had the cold and icy look in his orbs. So much that it broke my heart.

I knew those looks; it had been the same in Sebastian's eyes, but history wasn't going to repeat itself, was it? Life wasn't meant to be that cruel. I could not allow it.

“I'm sorry, I should leave.” He added in again. I grabbed him hastily by the arm, but he jerked his grasps off me while I fell to the floor, whining from pain at my sprained ankle. He stopped to a halt and turned to me, no hint of remorse in his eyes.

“You caused this... all of this. What was I thinking? What did you do to me?”

He muttered, throwing me into more confusion.

“What do you mean, Edward? It's me, Evelyn.

“And I'm meant to care? I do not give double fucks about you, and I do not love you. All I did was out of pity. At first, yes, I wanted something, but there was no way I could end up with nobody like you. I needed to save my business, so I had a bet with my friends, and I won. Now I don't need you anymore; the entire year and months I spent with you were nothing. But a facade!” He yelled before slamming the door right into my face and my heart shattered along with his actions.
