chapter 3

EVELYN POV.

My heart raced in my chest with each step I took. Bitterness engulfed me, hatred seeped into me, and a cold chill ran down my spine.

I pushed forward; my feet were worn out and sore, as my knees trembled running around all day was beginning to take its toll on me

I had been running in the woods all along; from the very moment Sebastian had banished me, the heavy downpour of rain followed not long after, dropping onto my skin like harsh pebbles.

But then I stopped to a halt, glanced ahead while I sighted it, the lands of humans; this was my only chance,

My only shot at life , I dared not make a fool of myself anymore.

It was eating me up, tearing me apart. I knew so well that was the only choice I had left; no alpha would take me in, as far as I had banished away from Sebastian's pack, I was no better than a rogue.

And pushing Marie off the stairs only made things worse for me. Sebastian was going to come for Me and have me killed,

Slowly I pushed forward, with each step I took the boundary became visible, the boundsry between my world, the werewolves and that of humans

I pushed further, swallowing hard. It was time I placed my past in my past and moved towards a chance at a future I needed to get myself to safety first.

I took my last step of faith Crossing over to the human world, my heart still raced in my chest. I was different; I wasn't human, a freak, and I certainly would stand out. I stopped to a half, frozen in place, while I heard continued laughter and chit-chatting

I wasn't sure what to do, but I moved in sync with where the sound came from. I could see two men with tents and cigarettes against their lips, looked like they were probably camping.

“Are you okay, mam?” a third man asked while he made his way out of the tent, leaving me scared.

“I said nothing but watched as he approached me slowly. He held his arms against my temples while my teeth clenched together.

“Please come with me; you need some rest. He pulled my arm, but I wouldn't budge.

“Young miss, I do not know where you are coming from or how you have cuts and bruises all over. Besides cut the whinning, come on in, and I'll help you.” He reassured me As so did they, I took slow yet cautious steps after him, and soon my knees gave in. Worry wrecked my nerves, and I swallowed hard.

My breat while I felt my senses go numb. A heavy migraine attacked me, and my knees gave in as my throat ran dry, with a loud thud I crashed falling with my head against the ground, before I finally slipped out of consciousness.

“Awake now?” The soothing voice came again while I pushed up my body from the soft mattress, which provided me with some warmth, which I wanted.

“I'm sorry, but... I mean... not really." I cracked up the more I spoke. I couldn't help melting under his gaze, which remained pinned on mine.

“Where am I?” I asked, parting my lips slowly while he pushed closer to me.

“New York City,“ he responded, and then it dawned on me that it was no longer a pigment of my imagination; I really was in it. Lands of humans.

“What were you doing out there? All alone in the woods? I'm worried. Are you sure you are good, my lady?" He asked again. I tried pushing up a faint smile on my lips, but more tears streaked out of my eyes, falling without control. My heart ached thinking about my past while I dreaded what my future was meant to be.

“Talk to me... what's wrong!” He urged me on.

“I don't remember,“ I lied, averting my gaze from him.

“You don't remember everything? Why are you here? How did you get into the woods? Nothing?” The worry was evident in his tone, and I nodded slowly.

“This is terrible; we have to tell them to call someone; you could be a missing person for all I know." He muttered and stood to his feet. I reached my arms for him, pulling him back towards me.

“I'm sorry, but I'll leave. Don't call anyone.” I pleaded, my eyes still lingering on him. He swallowed hard, and tension filled the air between us.

“Okay, you can stay with me until you are fully healed; do you at least remember your name? Anything?” he asked,

The vague images flashed through my mind. The tears, sweats, and cries coursed through my mind, the pain aching at my heart terribly becoming way too much for me to handle.

“Evelyn!” I snapped, yelling at the top of my lungs, while I could hear Sebastian's words play over and over in a loop in my head.

I gritted my teeth and curled up my knees to my chest, rocking myself back and forth while I squinted my eyes.

“Evelyn.. Is everything okay?” He asked again, but I muttered inaudible gibberish. My voice cracked at intervals while more tears streaked off my face. Causing me to panic unnecessarily

“Miss Evelyn, are you sure you are fine? If this were about the cops, I promise I would not be calling anyone,“ he reassured me while I raised my eyes to meet with him.

He sat beside me. He wrapped me in a hug; his huge and broad chest was like a pillow while he wrapped his arms around my body.

“I'm sorry life had been unfair to you; I wonder what had really happened, but you shouldn't be doing this; you might harm the baby.” He broke off, and I tensed up. A loud noise rang through my ear while I turned to face him.

“The baby?” I asked, uncertain if I had heard the right words.

"Yes, Miss Evelyn, you are heavily pregnant, three months gone... You are with a child.
