first day

Caleb

I've been in front of this damn mirror for ten minutes wondering if I'm going to class or not. Deep down I know James will make me pay for it if I pretend to feel bad.

I just don't want to start this comedy with my supposed boyfriend.

Yesterday's pizza night was more than enough for me between James who was throwing insistent glances at us every 5 minutes and the guys from the fraternity watching us out of the corner of my eye I had lasted 10 minutes before stealing away and take my legs at my stroke.

Elijah, had pretended to have a homework to finish. They had all thought it was so they could spend time together these idiots. When in reality we were each cloistered in our respective rooms. If even at a small party we can't pretend, I can't even imagine a whole day of lessons...

I splash water on my face and look at my reflection one last time. My brown hair, which has been a little too long for some time, falls slightly on my face, which gives me a mysterious look that matches my light gray eyes according to the girls. I'm wearing black skinny jeans with a white t-shirt that shows my many tattoos. People often say that I look like those guys who play guitar or rock. Quite the opposite of Elijah, who has this elegance at home that makes all the girls fall at his feet. I have everything to please girls not a brothel boy!

Someone knocks several times snapping me out of my thoughts.

- It's good, I'm leaving!

I open the door and recognize Ethan, the kid from yesterday.

-Mmh, sorry but Elijah is losing patience outside..

I let out a little laugh, everyone takes him for a carrier pigeon or what?

-Thanks dude ! You should speak for yourself from time to time.

I smile and put a hand on her hair, ruffling it. He looks me straight in the eye and blushes slightly.

I let go and run down the stairs to join Elijah's car.

Elijah

- You took a long time!

-Sorry, but I was looking forward to coming if you know what I mean! Said Caleb ironically.

I roll my eyes.

-Stop doing that ! Let go of Caleb with a reproacher.

I start the car and look at him quickly with a raised eyebrow.

- But what are you talking about?

-You always roll your eyes to the sky, I don't like it..

-Oh you mean that? I say rolling my eyes on purpose.

He growls and nudges me, causing me to zigzag across the road.

-I'm driving Caleb!

-Sorry baby.

I turn to him suddenly and glare at him. He approaches a mocking smile.

"I know I'm handsome, but don't forget you're driving," Caleb says.

I almost get into a car and let out a curse.

-You can't be damn it..

He is laughing. We arrive quickly at the university having our house not very far.

-So are you ready?, I ask Caleb.

-Do we really have to?, he asks me, making a face.

Looks like a child being forced to go to school.

-If only..

I wave to my fake boyfriend to get out. I open the door and see James and Luke smoking not far away. Caleb joins me in front of the car.

- What do you think we should do?

I look at him and shrug my shoulders. He and I have rarely been in a relationship, if ever, so we can say that we were in trouble from the start. I decide to reach out my hand.

- We're not going to hold hands anyway!

I nudge Caleb and whisper:

-Damn people can hear us silly!

-Sorry.., he nervously scratches the back of his neck, do we really have to do this?

I motion for him to do so. He hesitates then we hear James and Luke laughing. Caleb glares at them. He hastens to hold my hand to show them that we can do it.

-We will show them that we are capable of meeting this damn challenge! Caleb whispers to me, slapping his hand on my chest.

I chuckle at his overflowing enthusiasm to prove to them that we stop at nothing.

We go to the theaters ignoring James and Luke. As we move forward, eyes turn to us. We hear murmurs as soon as we pass through the corridors. It must be said that this is the first time that we hold hands as a couple. It feels weird to hold a boy's hand, especially Caleb's. We stop in front of my classroom which is almost empty, for once we arrive early. I lean a little toward Caleb.

-You should thank Julie for making it easy for us.

-Who?, he asks me with a raised eyebrow removing his arm.

-You are hopeless, you know?

It's pure Caleb, not even remembering the name of the girl he slept with. He gives me a provocative smile.

- Say the guy who was woken up by an automatic sprinkler!

I pretend to be offended, putting a hand on my chest. He is laughing. I see Jack walk through the door to sit down. I have to say a word to him about the evening.

-Well, I'll leave you, I have to talk to Jack, I declare giving him a kiss on the cheek.

He jumps in surprise. I let go of his hand and shrug my shoulders, saying a silent "don't forget the challenge" to remind him.

I can hear whistles coming from other students in the hallway. I walk towards the place next to Jack without seeing his reaction to this. I have other bills to settle.

Caleb

A kiss on the cheek? My god, what don't we do for this stupid challenge? Already I had trouble holding his hand so do something else..

I hear whistles around me after what Elijah did. I turn around and cast my darkest gaze.

-A problem can be?, I say in a threatening voice.

As expected, they all lower their heads without saying anything. I go to my room which is in the economy building a few minutes from the building in which I came to drop off Elijah, the literature building. Elijah wants to take over his parents' publishing house. I am studying commerce to succeed my father who is the director of one of the largest companies in the investment sector. The problem is that it doesn't interest me that much. But I have no choice, my father is very strict about it.

I sit in the back next to James as always. I collapse on my table without a word, my head in my arms.

-You and Elijah are doing well so far.

I turn my head to James, who watches the professor settle in and begin his lesson.

"What if I fall in love with him?" I whisper seriously.

"WHAT?" James shouts, turning suddenly towards me.

-A problem, Mr. Carter?, asks the professor of economics.

James looks at me puzzled for a few more seconds before turning to the professor.

- No, no, excuse me.

He returns to his lesson without protesting, James is one of the best students, we never blame him for anything.

-A little revenge for this morning, I say with a smile on my face.

- Bastard, you scared me!

I'm joking. How could I fall in love with a guy? It's the best joke of the year.
