Whore ! After 30 minutes of going around in circles in the building, I finally manage to find the North lounge. Honestly... what is this lame room name?
It's no surprise that when I push the doors of this living room which is probably in the North, I am annoyed just like the rest of the pack. Several of them glare at me and I hear someone whispering, "finally, we can finally start". My killer gaze goes straight in the direction of the review, but I'm caught up in the Alpha:
" You are late !
- So instead of making reproaches, you should put flyers, posters, plans, whatever! It's a maze here! I had to rely on the location of the sun to know which way to go. So now is not the time to blame me!
- You're a guest here, so better address the Alpha. Especially since it is our sovereign, intervenes a wolf who I believe is called Elvynn. »
To my surprise, the Alpha doesn't respond after my words. He might scold me, but he remains surprisingly calm. As for me, letting off steam on him did me a world of good, I almost for a moment forgot his gaze.
Thinking about it, I feel my body filling with new energy, I'm starting to lose my footing in the face of this strange sensation. Unable to speak without sputtering, I wait for the Alpha to speak again:
“Well, we've wasted enough time as it is. I'm going to start by giving the reasons for my departure, because it seems essential to me for the proper functioning and the implementation of a strategy, but for that, I am first of all addressing you, the three newcomers. . »
He looks at the two vampires and then at me, being careful not to linger too long in my eyes. Fortunately, because otherwise he would have noticed my discomfort.
“As you know, the supreme pack must consist of 9 members, no more, no less.
- 10 members, darling, since I'm going to be the Luna, following our marriage, Abby cuts him off.
- The 9 members are: Ezéquiel, my first beta who is responsible for two wolves: Joy and Black. There is also Brett, my second beta who directs: Elvynn, Aida and Ace. And finally, there is me, the alpha, he ends, taking a single second into account the remark of his "darling".
- You said eight names, Brett intervenes very bitterly. »
After the various wolves sit down after standing up at the sound of their names, the Alpha gives Brett a knowing look and continues:
“Indeed, as Brett points out, there are only eight of us left, because one of ours was found murdered in his home, that was the reason for my departure. I went to find the one who should take over. »
I see Brett lower his face. The dead man in question must surely be the one Joy told me about earlier. I turn my eyes to her, and the auburn wolf slowly nods, confirming my hypothesis.
"That being said, meet Cody!" »
A young wolf enters the room, discreetly. He seems frail and shy. Her blond hair forms a kind of shapeless helmet on her head. Her eyes, which look brown to me, are hidden by a few locks that fall over her thin face. His weak build gives him no presence, which is reinforced by his adolescent way of standing, slightly arched forward. His eyelids, drooping discreetly outward, look like he's about to cry, and his cheeks seem ready to welcome the tears for the pearls of water to die down his thin neck. When I look at it, I don't understand the Alpha's choice. Even if this famous Cody must surely have resources elsewhere than in physical strength, I remain perplexed. However, the Alpha comes to enlighten my mind:
“It was our late friend who chose him before his death to succeed him. Because....
- Don't say his name, Brett cuts. »
It's undeniable, Brett's sadness is palpable in the room, but the latter is filled with another of his emotions; anger :
“What is this wolf he chose?! But look at him, Arden! He is weak. Without muscles. He is unable to defend himself, it will just be a burden for the whole pack. You are making a mistake by accepting it!
- Brett, calm down! Don't ever talk to me like that again, you're lucky to be my second beta and my close one. If you care about your old friend at all, you have to respect his wishes. He wanted Cody to succeed him in the pack in case something happened. Anyway, I validated his choice several years ago, so now Cody is part of the pack.
- Never, Brett yells. »
The latter continues his speech, but I no longer listen to him. All my attention is rather on the famous Cody. Preferring to simply analyze the scene, he says nothing. Something is wrong, he seems very serene just like Arden. Without giving me more time to think, Brett suddenly gets up, ready to fight. His girlfriend tries to hold him back by the arm, but meeting his sad gaze, Joy lets go. Despite the imminence of the situation, the Alpha still did not move, looking back at his friend. As Brett continues to quickly approach Cody, the latter quietly cocks his hand. Surprisingly, it doesn't form a closed fist, no, it intertwines its various fingers in a strange shape. However, what strikes me is how easily he seems to act, Cody is clearly used to it. Brett, totally pissed off, sees nothing coming. It jumps out at me now! I'm willing to bet that in such conditions, Cody can manage to take on Brett in one shot.
However, wanting to avoid public humiliation and not being here for childish settling of accounts, I decide to get closer to Brett. While positioning myself between the two adversaries, I launch:
"I think the wolves and the elves have come together with the aim of overthrowing power. »
My sentence is followed by a silence and a few scattered laughs. The only ones who don't react are Cody and Brett who are still sizing each other up. Nevertheless, Joy, understanding what I want to do, also jumps at the chance by driving the point home:
“I totally agree with Ténébris! »
I'd bet she doesn't mean a word of it, but her intervention has the merit of distracting Brett's attention. This one, interested in the words of his soul mate, suddenly calms down and the tension drops another level when a wolf named Aida takes the floor after him:
“Finally, Tenebris! You know very well that the elves are renowned for their calm, but also for their will to save the peace at all costs. Of course, the wolves are in on it, but the elves... It's impossible!
- I know very well how elves work, thank you. I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that they are with the wolves behind all the attacks.
- What are the elements that allowed you to reach this conclusion, Idys asks me.
- Already, in the various attacks that there have been previously, the bodies have been discovered to be shredded, which corresponds to the wolf. However, there were also a few corpses with just neck cuts, but mostly arrow marks. These two different types of deaths correspond to those made by the elves. All the more so if we add to this the fact that not all elves want peace, quite the contrary.
- That's a bit of a thin line of reasoning, Abby contradicts.
- Maybe, but I try at least to find solutions.
- I find that what Ténébris says is not stupid at all. No one would think of elves as enemies, which would grant them the status of perfect ally. Elves do not attract attention and people always think they are innocent. All the more, this could explain why we have never found a single weapon at the scene of the attacks, surely they must be very careful to remove the arrows so that we cannot trace them, supports me Ezekiel.
- Honestly, you two make a good pair! Elves, it's unlikely! They're holed up in their city or in their forest, Abby said, bursting out laughing.
- But if we don't look into their cases, it could give them a head start, Aida contradicts. »
Abby glares at her, but before she outbids, Erad says something that chills my blood:
“And if it was the work of hybrids?
- It's impossible, hybrids don't exist, answers the Alpha.
- Arden is right, several people have tried to create one, but there is no trace of a possible success so far, continues Brett.
- Me and my brother think they managed to make at least one. And maybe he served as an example to create a new breed of hybrids? asks the other vampire.
- Unsurprisingly, I quite agree with Idys, adds Black.
- Except that you forgot that hybrids do not exist!
- Elvynn is right. When a child is born of two different creatures, it takes on the powers of one of the two parents. And when, for example, a witch is bitten by a vampire to transform her, either she dies because of the overflow of power in her veins, or she becomes a vampire. Many people have tried to create hybrids, but no one has succeeded. Beings aren't strong enough to hold two supernatural bloods, I explain calmly. »
Following my words, everyone is silent and thinks. We know that is impossible. There are many people who have tried, but all have died. Today, the various beings of this earth have mostly given up on this crazy idea. The silence in the room confirms my explanations, but it is broken by a voice:
" Me ! »
Surprised, everyone turns eagerly to Joy:
"Well...I mean...I'm the daughter of a seer and a wolf." I inherited the wolf part from my father, but I gained the ability of clairvoyance. I manage to identify people well, but it is impossible for me to have visions of the bonds of the past of a person. I am not a hybrid, but I acquired a very small percentage of my mother's dispositions. So maybe it's possible that someone has acquired more...
- I knew it, Black and Idys exclaim at the same time. »
Then, Erad looks at his twin with a big smile, while the Alpha doesn't seem to react. As a guide, he would surely know about Joy's abilities, but one question obsessed me; if a hybrid existed, what would happen?
