Chapter 4

Ruby POV

It must have been seven o'clock in the evening when Wendy and I returned to the bungalow. The sun slowly began to disappear in the sky to make way for the moon.

-I really hope you like it here, Wendy said to me.

I just didn't want to end up in a mental institution after everything I had learned today.

-I hope so, otherwise it's going to be a long summer, I sighed.

-With everything you're going to learn, summer will go by like lightning!

I raised an eyebrow.

-Really ?

-But of course ! This is not a camp for normal teenagers here. You learn lots of things and you have fun!

-How do I learn what I am and know my “talents”? I said to him, miming the quotation marks with my fingers.

-That's right ! She said to me, pretending to go to her room.

I went to sit on the small sofa and stared into space. However, my gaze moved towards the window. There were about fifteen young people heading towards the path that led to the lake.

-Wendy?

-Yes ? She replied, sticking her head out of her bedroom doorway.

-Why are there lots of people going on the trail? Is there anything tonight?

She looked out the window and opened her eyes wide.

- Oh, I'm stupid! Tonight there's a little party at the lake, it's like that at the start of every summer. There is music and you can swim, as well as get to know new people.

- Will everyone be there?

- In a way, yes. Okay, put on your swimsuit under your clothes, a party awaits us!

-Let's say that the holidays are not tr-...

-Don't be shy! It's gonna be super fun! Come on hurry up ! she exclaimed.

-Okay, if you say so.

I went to my room and opened one of my suitcases. I took out my black bikini and put it under my clothes. Once ready, I joined Wendy who was waiting for me in the doorway.

-Ready? She asks me.

I nodded, smiling at him.

Finally, I hoped to be. Usually, small parties didn't scare me, but this time they did. They won't be normal people, but supernatural ones. Weres, vampires...those ones scared me a little. I really hoped to get used to it, because I was going to spend a whole summer with these people.

We were walking down the trail when music started to sound.

- You're all tense, are you okay? Wendy asked, turning her head towards me.

-Um, yes, I think so. I'm just a little stressed, that's all.

-You don't have to be afraid, you don't risk anything. Apart from being watched by the guys! she sneered.

-What ? Why do you say that ?

-Guys are all the same you know. They don't hesitate to look anywhere.

We burst out laughing.

- That, I can confirm it to you! I said.

The trail eventually came to an end so we could see the lake as well as the people swimming in it, others dancing and having a blast.

-Well, just a piece of advice, Wendy told me. Don't put out stupid stuff because some people here have fine hearing.

"Understood," I said, nodding my head.

- Follow me if you don't want to find yourself in bad company.

Wendy walked over to a cooler and pulled out two Cokes. She handed me one and I took it, thanking her. After a few sips, my friend motioned for me to follow her again.

-A bathing you say?

-Yes why not !

We took off our clothes and then we both found ourselves in bikinis. Wendy approached the water to see if it was cold and quickly removed her foot.

-Damn, it’s cold!

I laughed then saw a rock a few meters from us. I walked towards the latter quietly.

-Me, I prefer to go there at once! I said to Wendy before diving into the lake.

The water wasn't so bad, we were fine. I then went back to the surface.

-Come on! She’s super good! I said to Wendy.

But I don't see it. I was looking for her among the young people around me. I saw her a little further away chatting with five other young people. From here I could make out another werewolf, a witch, two fairies, and a vampire.

Too bad, I would swim alone in my corner. But it was of short duration because, after having dived under water a few times, young people came more and more towards my corner.

-Hey Ruby! A voice shouted behind me.

I turned around to see who it was. Cody smiled at me and waved.

-Hi ! I tell him as I move closer.

-Wendy is not with you? he asked me.

-No why ?

-Oh nothing.

-If you're looking for her, she's over there with five other people, I tell her, pointing at her from afar.

-OK. Tell me, why don't you join us? You are all alone there.

I took a moment before answering him.

-Let's just say that being with vampires scares the hell out of me... I muttered.

He gave me a reassuring smile.

-Don't worry, you'll find it cool in a few days. You just have to get used to it! Let time sort it all out.

-Yes, that's what Wendy told me earlier.

I got a little closer to the group of people when a guy, a werewolf, shouted something.

-Cockfight!
