Chapter 3
-And what am I?
-I met a guy earlier, he was there last year. He's the only shapeshifter at camp. His eyes are blue and golden. But color may vary depending on gender. He has blue because he's a guy and you have pink because you're a girl, doesn't that seem logical? So in my opinion, you are a shapeshifter!
-That seems rather sexist to me, I whispered, looking at her.
Logical, well maybe, but it was most certainly sexist. Why didn't I have a color other than Barbie?
-And what is... A shapeshifter? I added.
-You can take the appearance of animals, but if there is something else, I don't know, she replied.
Become a grasshopper and end up trampled two seconds later? Might as well end it there.
We were now in front of our bungalow.
-As you're the new one, I'll let you choose the room you want.
I went inside and looked around. A magnificent little kitchen on the right, the living room on the left and three doors at the back. Two bedrooms and a bathroom. I decided to take the room that was closest to the bathroom.
-Good choice, Wendy told me.
We laughed and I went to my room. In my room, I don't unpack my suitcases right away. Sitting on my little bed, I thought.
Was all this real? Me who believed that it was only in fairy tales that there were supernaturals. And a shapeshifter, how come I was one? Was it chance? Was it genetic? Only questions.
A few minutes later, I found my friend in the living room.
"You probably have questions for me," Wendy guessed.
-Good guess!
- Don't worry, tomorrow you will know a lot more.
-Okay, but now what do we do?
-I can tell you everything I know about supernaturals.
-I'll listen to you then
-First of all, to be a supernatural, it is done randomly. We all carry a gene within us that can decide whether it wants to activate or not. When this gene activates, your eyes start playing tricks on you and you can see what you are. Sometimes it happens at awkward times and some get a little out of control.
-I think it happened to me yesterday... And also... Probably a while ago during class... I don't really know.
-Anyway, what I also find the coolest is that each supernatural has a gift that only he can have. Example that he is a vampire, he is fast and can hypnotize a person, but he can have a gift like making objects invisible or something like that. Only he can have it, not other vampires, whose gift varies from one person to another.
-Great, and what are you?
She shrugged her shoulders.
-I haven't discovered it yet, but I feel like I'm close. Would you like me to show you around before the sun goes down?
-Yeah, good idea.
We both left the bungalow.
-You'll see, supernatural guys are much cuter than human ones, Wendy laughed.
-It's not my main occupation, I laughed.
-Come on, let's go near the lake, it's beautiful there.
We walked for about ten minutes on a path before arriving at a lake.
The place was beautiful.
-It’s true that it’s beautiful, I told him.
POV Unknown
My friends and I were hanging out at the lake as usual when two girls came off the trail. One of them was a werewolf, she was there last summer. But the other girl didn't say anything to me and her back was so I couldn't meet her eyes to see what she was.
-Hey Cody, look who's here, it's the beautiful Wendy, I said to Cody, smirking.
-You're too stupid, I barely know her, he whispered. But who is the other girl with her?
-I don't know, I think she's new.
- What do you think she is? Nathan asked us.
-I think she's a vampire because of her curly black hair, tried to guess Cody.
-And you ?
Nathan and Cody stared at me.
-Uh, a werewolf like Wendy maybe.
-Let's go see them, suggested Nathan.
“It’s without me,” I whispered.
-Don't do it again, don't be your lonely guy, we'll just see who it is, Cody told me, getting up.
"Okay, okay," I sighed.
The two girls saw that we had moved closer to them. They both faced us.
-Ruby, if you remember what I told you earlier, you should know what they are, said Wendy, smiling kindly at us.
It was good news. She scrutinized us one by one.
-You are a vampire, she said, pointing at Nathan. You a, uh, a werewolf, she said, pointing at Cody.
She turned to me.
-And you, uh...
Wendy whispered something in her ear. Ruby then looked up at me.
"A shapeshifter," she finally said.
-THE shifter, I corrected.
-Why THE shapeshifter? she asked me.
“Because I’m the only one here,” I said, putting my hands in my pockets.
-Not anymore ! Wendy exclaimed. Have you seen Ruby's eyes?
When I met the gaze of the new, I could notice that her eye color was very rare. She had gold like me, except she didn't have blue... Shapeshifters could shapeshift, so it made sense to me that our eyes weren't exactly the same color.
- May I know your names? Ruby asked us.
- He is Cody, he Nathan and I are Hunter.
-Hunter Stevens who will have to stop playing solitaire this summer! Laughed Wendy.
-Why do you say that ? I asked him.
-Because I asked Melissa what we were going to do this summer and she told me that for two weeks, we were going to have to work on a team project with our peers.
I, who was not a fan of teamwork...
- Well, we have to go! Said Wendy. Come on Ruby.
Ruby said goodbye to all three of us and then joined Wendy on the trail.
We did the same in the other direction.
