inexpected

A ray of sunshine on my face wakes me up. I try to turn over to continue sleeping but a weight on my legs prevents me. I fully open my eyes and observe Daemon. He stayed.

Seeing him asleep makes me smile and I take the opportunity to observe him. The tanned skin, beautiful lips... we concentrate! Her black hair is cut shorter on the sides and her eyes are so black... Her eyes?

I blush when I see him awake and a beautiful laugh comes out of his mouth as I look away.

- Hello to you too, he says mischievously. You seem to be doing much better, that reassures me.

- That doesn't mean that everything is fine, Tristan interrupts as he enters, followed by his sister. You are much too thin, it is absolutely necessary that you regain strength. Do you feel able to get out of this bed?

I nod my head eagerly and straighten up to stand. Daemon gets up immediately and watches my every move to catch up with me if necessary. He leads me to a small bathroom so I can wash up quickly before going to eat. As I only have that, I put on my dirty dress but it's already a little better.

Our strange duo finally arrives in the living room and I drop onto the sofa, exhausted from the effort. Trisha arrives seconds later, a plate of pasta in her hand. I hold myself back from salivating when I smell the food, it's been so long since I've eaten my fill...

Even in wolf form, I cannot hunt alone. For several months, I fed on dead animals, a few rodents and theft. But my instinct keeps me from throwing myself on the plate, I'm not safe enough to eat.

Daemon quickly understands my problem and asks his friends to leave us alone for a while.

- Do you want me to leave too?

The idea of finding myself alone terrifies me brutally without my understanding the reason and I shake my head so that he stays with me. In an instinctive gesture, I grab his sleeve and make him sit on the sofa. Curious, he lets himself be done so as not to rush me.

- You know, it would be easier if you agreed to talk to us- Hey don't cry, everything is fine, come here, he said opening his arms so as not to force me.

I do not hesitate long before taking refuge there. When he closes his arms, I tense up abruptly but don't try to free myself. His circular movements on my back help me relax and my sobs calm down little by little.

I had been holding all these emotions for too long, I had to release them. The fear of being locked up and tortured again, the discovery of my soul mate,... I also cry about the happiness that I would not have. The moment Daemon discovers that his soulmate is unable to speak, he will reject me and I will be left alone again. While I haven't even known him for 24 hours, this simple idea was enough to destroy me. My weakness allowed the bond of attachment to be created in less than a day.

Once slightly calmed down, I back up to the end of the couch and stare sheepishly at my shoes, I can't imagine what he thinks of me.

- I imagine you feel better now, can you eat alone or with my help?

I bite my tongue to calm myself down, her proposal suits my wolf perfectly and she lets me know by trying to regain control. I somehow manage to push her away and grab my cutlery. With trembling hands, I begin to eat. I feel Daemon's heavy gaze on me but don't let it throw me off balance any further.

- Dae', we have a problem!

Lost in his thoughts, my companion hadn't heard the wolf arrive since he jumped up and stood in front of me, growling.

- Oh Kyle, what's going on? he asks, running a hand through his hair.

- A rather aggressive group of wolves has just entered the territory- Is she your soul mate? Asks the man named Kyle when he sees me.

Daemon turns to me smiling and nods.

- She's the newest member of the pack.

Dae' crouches down in front of me with a serious expression.

- I'm going to ask you to stay here, will you? I have to go see what's going on but I promise to come back as soon as possible. Until then, you're not leaving the house, okay? He explained to me, looking me in the eyes. If you want, in the meantime, you can try to find yourself a new outfit. There's what you need in the first bedroom at the top of the stairs, with the blue door. I promise, I'll be back soon.

In a few seconds, I find myself alone again. I try to keep a calm breath but the sound of breaking glass breaks my last barriers. I let out a silent cry as I felt my bones break to make room for my wolf. My white coat is not long in covering the whole of my body. Again on my four legs, I put a few seconds to find the origin of the noise and move away.

It's those precious seconds that allow a scarred gray wolf to approach within a few feet. I back away in fear as he growls menacingly. Remembering Daemon's last hints, I run for the stairs in hopes of hiding. My opponent is chasing me, I can hear him getting closer, I'm too weak.

Gathering my last strength, I accelerate and throw myself through the first floor window. Surprised, the gray wolf didn't follow me, he went down and went around. I have less than a minute to get up and join Daemon.

Leaving my body completely to my wolf, I feel her struggle to get up and hobble towards the sounds of struggle. She manages to advance a few meters before being violently tackled to the ground.

I squeal in pain as I feel my front leg twist painfully. Completely at the mercy of my adversary, I no longer have the strength to fight. As a last resort, I try to howl to warn the pack but a powerful jaw grabs me by the throat. I try to free myself by hitting my opponent but the latter tightens his grip and chokes me little by little.

Half asphyxiated, I see a dark mass pass in front of me and release the weight on my shoulders. Unable to get up, I watch the scarred wolf face a huge red wolf. My opponent finally decides to lay low and cowardly runs away seeing Daemon's other werewolves coming.

They all stop a good distance from me, forming a circle, except for a large black wolf. I don't need to smell it, I know it's Daemon. Worried, he sniffs my paw and licks my muzzle to reassure me. He then stops for a few seconds to give a telepathic order to his pack since they are all moving away, leaving us alone.

Only the red wolf is left staring at me. Annoyed, my wolf bares her teeth. Two gray wolves come to his side and back him up towards the house.

Finally alone with my companion, I let my head fall back to the ground, I no longer need to hide my weakness. I feel him lie down next to me and lay his head on my back. When I start to fall asleep, he pulls away and leaves me for a few moments. Worried, I sit up abruptly and yelp in pain, pressing on my paw.

Daemon comes running to me, he just left to transform back. Not having had time to put on a T-shirt, he runs with a simple jog on the hips. My wolf watches him trying not to drool but comes back down to earth feeling his hand land in my fur.

- Well then, you really scared me. Don't try to get up anymore, I'll carry you.

I moan softly as he picks me up and takes advantage of the situation to lay my head against his chest.

In just a few hours, my wolf has completely accepted her soulmate, but my human part has not yet. Despite everything, he is the only one who can come into contact with my skin without my trying to run away from him.

I know the stories around this magical bond binding two wolves for eternity, my parents were proof of that. I just hope I don't drag Daemon down with me.

I don't remember going into the house or being put in a bed, I had fallen asleep long before.
