Chapter 6: Marry Me
"Tilda, I need your help urgently! Can you find a way to obtain Mr. Walters's phone number?"
Rosalind had blocked all contact with Ulric and left all the shared groups they were part of. Tilda was now the only person she could turn to for assistance.
A groggy voice responded from the other end, "Who is it?"
"It's Ulric..."
"If this is some kind of sleepwalking prank, go back to bed."
"I don't have time to explain, it's a serious matter!"
The supervisor of their project partner had signed the contract and then left the country. Rosalind couldn't possibly ask them to return just to sign a new contract with her!
Tilda realized Rosalind wasn't joking and sat up in bed, contemplating for a moment. "I can't get his number directly, but you can try going to his room and find him there."
Right!
Rosalind swiftly ended the call, hastily got dressed, and rushed to the hotel's presidential suite.
However, as soon as she stepped off the elevator on that floor, she was halted by the CEO's secretary.
"Hello, I need to see Mr. Walters!"
The secretary scrutinized her appearance and spoke sternly, "Do you have an appointment?"
Rosalind replied, "No."
The secretary responded curtly, "Then please leave."
"Can you make an exception? It's an urgent matter. Please pass on the message that Rosalind needs to speak with him. He will definitely see me!"
Faced with her plea, the secretary didn't even bother to respond this time, acting as if she hadn't heard anything.
Rosalind felt a sense of defeat when suddenly, Ulric's deep voice echoed from within the suite.
"Let her in."
...
Upon hearing Ulric's command, the secretary finally permitted her entry.
Rosalind cautiously pushed open the door to the suite and found Ulric still dressed in a dark silk robe, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window with a cup of black coffee in hand, occasionally taking a sip.
When his gaze fell upon her, Rosalind awkwardly tugged at her lips and said, "Mr. Walters, did you happen to find the contract that day?"
"That day?" Ulric raised an eyebrow and walked towards her. "Which day are you referring to?"
His imposing presence made Rosalind instinctively take a few steps back.
She knew Ulric was purposefully evading the topic. Changing the subject wouldn't work, so she decided to come clean.
"Mr. Walters, I sent that text by mistake that night. I don't remember anything after that! I came here today solely to retrieve the contract—"
"Rosalind, I am in need of a life partner."
Interrupted abruptly, Rosalind was momentarily stunned. "What?"
"I said, marry me." Ulric took a step closer, his dark eyes fixed on her shocked face. "Consider it."
He spoke so casually, as if discussing the weather, but to Rosalind, it felt almost surreal.
Remaining silent for a moment, she finally spoke up, "Mr. Walters, there's no need to test me."
Rosalind wasn't naive. If Ulric truly needed a life partner, there would be countless willing women vying for the position, she shouldn't be the chosen one.
This could only be a test!
To gauge if she had ulterior motives and desired to elevate her status.
Ulric disregarded her words and continued, "Your mother is receiving treatment in the hospital, correct? I can help her find the best doctors and cover all the expenses. If you agree, we can register our marriage tomorrow."
He spoke earnestly, and his handsome face showed no signs of jest.
But...
"Why?"
"I just told you, I need a life partner. And as for why it's you..." Ulric paused, "Because you're the most suitable candidate."
