Chapter 3

Kali, you know you’re the one for me. If she didn’t play the piano like you, I never would have chosen her to be my wife." Isaiah's voice was firm and sincere, reminiscent of the promises he made to me when we got engaged.

I met Isaiah at one of my piano recitals. From that moment on, he pursued me relentlessly. I always thought he loved my piano playing. But today, I realized he never really supported my dreams; he saw me as a mere amusement. That's why he could crush my aspirations without hesitation. Our connection was all about Kali and me being pianists, and this revelation was painful, showing he never truly loved me.

"Isaiah, would you hold it against me if I didn't want to marry you?"

"How could I? You're a free spirit, dear Kali. You should soar high, and marriage would only tie you down."

Isaiah smirked, adding, "Besides, don't you enjoy the thrill of the affair? I certainly do, especially with Paisley right there. Aren’t you more into it now than before?"

The unmistakable sounds left me no choice but to pretend to wake up from my fake sleep. I made a small noise, as if stirring.

Isaiah cursed softly, quickening his movements, while Kali let out a long, contented sigh. Then came the soft rustle of clothes being hurriedly adjusted.

"I’ll be on my way, Isaiah!"

With a gentle peck, Kali left my hospital room. I finally opened my eyes, looking at the man I once adored.

His face was still flushed, and when he saw I was awake, he simply said, "Have you learned your lesson yet?"

I couldn't speak. My silence hid the tears threatening to break free. I couldn't let him know I heard everything; it would be a complete blow to my dignity and pride. Instead, I turned my head, refusing to look at him.

Isaiah was quiet for a moment, and I thought maybe he felt some remorse. But the words he spoke were devoid of the warmth he showed Kali, as cold as ice:

"Today was just to show you where my limits are."

"We're married now. I'm your husband, and you're my wife. We'll make the best of it; I won’t treat you poorly."

"You should rest now. There's no need to play the piano anymore. My family’s daughter-in-law doesn't need to be in the spotlight."
