Chapter 1

On my wedding day, my husband, Isaiah Cruz, broke my fingers one by one—those fingers that once danced over piano keys.

All because I accidentally tore the ribbon on my bridesmaid Kali Jacobs' Victorian-style dress.

Later, I discovered Isaiah only married me because Kali had rejected him. He never truly loved me. So leaving was my only option. Yet after I left, he went off the deep end.

The events of the wedding remain vivid in my memory. I was clad in a custom-made Victorian-style wedding dress, eagerly anticipating marrying the man I loved more than anyone.

It was meant to be a simple act—helping my bridesmaid Kali tie a ribbon on her dress. But who would have guessed the fabric was so delicate it would tear easily?

Kali, a wealthy heiress, gasped as her shoulder was exposed and then, before everyone, she burst into tears:

“This is a unique, handcrafted gown that Isaiah organized months in advance! It’s a hundred times more expensive than your dress! You’d never be able to replace it! How could you ruin it?”

As soon as Isaiah heard her cry, he rushed over, holding the half-exposed Kali gently, murmuring reassurances:

“Don’t cry, Kali. I’ll arrange for someone to make you another one, even more exquisite and valuable than this.”

There I was, the bride, watching my groom console my bridesmaid tenderly. It was a bitter pill to swallow. My own wedding dress had been specially arranged by Isaiah. I was so thrilled when I received the handmade gown that I couldn’t sleep all night, convinced it was a sign of his love for me.

Who would have thought that Kali, just a bridesmaid, would wear something more expensive than my bridal gown?

After calming Kali, Isaiah shot me an angry look, one that made him seem like a stranger.

“Paisley! How could you be so spiteful? I was about to marry you, and you still found a way to ruin things for Kali!”

“With everyone watching at the wedding, what is Kali supposed to wear now?”

“Let me tell you, if Kali can’t appear in that dress, you’ll be the one to blame! We might as well call this wedding off!”

I was stunned. Could an issue with a bridesmaid’s dress really threaten to cancel the entire wedding?

Desperate, I tried to explain, “Isaiah, it wasn’t intentional. Kali asked me to tie her bow, that’s all. I didn’t know the dress was so fragile... Please believe me, I didn’t do it on purpose!”

Isaiah laughed coldly:

“You’ve always been crafty in my eyes! Not only are you spiteful, but you’re also a liar.”

He stepped closer to me. All I wanted was for him to understand and believe me, as we were already married and had vowed to share our lives together.

But he grasped my hand, and as I was about to hold his in return, a sharp pain shot through my fingers.
