I sipped my wine, watching the scene in front of me.
The smell of beer and sex filling the club, filling me with familiarity.
After work I was worn out. I’m pretty sure I didn’t even take the right notes.
I literally scribbled, Mr. Zara’s voice far to distracting to get anything done.
So I gradually paid less and less attention to anything happening in those meetings.
And now I’m suffering for it.
I swiveled in my stool, seeing a broad body standing at the bar, the dark brown hair striking another ounce of familiarity.
I frowned, turning my head away before anything strange were too occur.
Eye contact was terrifying. With strangers that don’t feel like strangers.
I finished my glass, walking back to the bar, asking for a refill.
« Of course Ms. Preston. » The sweet bartender always replied.
I walked back, my eyes falling in front of me, only to see my two bosses, literally looking in my direction.
But I think their gaze was past me as they spoke.
I turned my head, watching the scene, my hair coating the left side of my face as I sat back down.
I was fine. My best friend would be here soon.
Half of me believed I’d get fired but what I do outside of work means nothing on my actually work based performance.
I think that’s the slight over achiever in me.
My heart hammered in my throat, my phone buzzing.
I sighed, my face burning as she said she was coming.
« Ally thank fuck. » I immediately hugged her.
« What’s wrong with you ? » Her face coated in the panic I felt.
« My bosses. They’re here. » I motioned with my head as she sat down beside me.
Unfortunately to my right.
« No way ? Mr. And Mr. Run Me Over And I’d Apologize First ? » She looked, attracting so much attention.
« They’re looking. » She said flatly.
« We should go. I know they’re not by bosses here but it’s too weird. » I groaned.
« It’s a sex club not a bar… so I’d be surprised if it wasn’t weird. God at least they’re hot. » She drooled.
« All done. They’re gay. Let’s go. » I grabbed my things.
She smiled, walking out with me.
« Now what ? » She asked.
« I stay in my room for all eternity. I literally work right under them. It’s not like I have a boss before the big boss. The big bosses are my boss. And I need help tomorrow. God damnit. » I cursed.
« Definitely big alright. But maybe they didn’t see you ? » She attempted.
« You said they were looking. » I deadpanned.
« Changing the subject before you throw your phone at me. For the third time this week. » She accused.
« That’s what happens when you say the worst things at the worst times. But I love you. So let’s go out to eat instead. » I smiled.
« Totally down for it. Then you can drown your sorrow in wine at my place, I’ll take care of tomorrow morning’s hangover ! » She winked.
« Done. »
