I held my breath while my hands softly trailed up his torso, this wasn’t apart of the check up but in all honesty I don’t know what I was doing. My hand felt something within his skin, I glanced down at it to see a scar. It was huge and covering his torso, my fingers traced it softly.
He grabbed ahold of my wrist, locking his fingers tightly around my wrist. He yanked my arm forcing me to flush against his bare chest. My nose pecked his, my eyes were almost about to burst apart.
« My heart isn’t there, mo stór. » He grinds his teeth together, his warm breath tickled my cheeks.
My lips parted as my nightgown dipped in front, showing off my undergarments. His eyes slowly glanced down looking inside my gown, his eyes darkened with an unknown feeling.
« Sorry, I was just-just feeling for-«
« Don’t do it again. » He whispers roughly, my heart was beating so fast against my chest.
I nodded quietly, his eyes simply stared into mine. His face was only inches away from mine, his lips were plump and moist. He tilted his head ever so lightly, my mouth became dry. He released my wrist, I gently rubbed it trying to ease my pain. I took many steps away from him to put distance between us, he opened his drawer to pull out a fat cigar.
Was he nuts ?
« You can’t smoke, it’ll weaken your heart more. » I commented.
He glanced up at me, he slowly took the cigar out of his mouth killing the flame on his ashtray. He actually listened to me, the flame went out slowly against the tray.
The door opened, Diana walked in and caught us staring at each other. I ripped my eyes off of him and turned to face her, her eyes were lit with curiosity.
« So ? » She asked.
« His heart is weak but his beat is strong, well strong enough for me to work on. » I told her.
« When can we transplant the heart ? »
« It’s more difficult than that, I need to do training, I need to observe him and the list for a heart is longer than ever. » I removed the gloves from my hand and tossed them in the trash bin.
« How about this, kick off everyone from the list and place my brother on top. » She smiles sweetly at me, it was clearly a forced smile.
« I can’t do that, some of these patients are children that have been waiting a very long time for a heart. » I crossed my arms over my chest as I shake my head side to side.
How could she even ask of such a thing, these children were on their death bed and she wanted me to bury them, no way.
« Do you think I give a fuck about those children ? He’s my broth-«
« Enough. » His voice bloomed from behind me, he carefully put his shirt back on. He pointed his finger at his sister, she gulped.
« I warned you about this, I told you to give up. I will not take something from a child especially this. »
I watched intently, she rolled her eyes angrily.
« We need you here, alive and well. I need you here. » Diana’s voice softened, she grabbed his hands bringing them to her lips. « Please. » She begged.
« I said enough, Diana. Don’t make me repeat myself ever again. » He told her, her eyes shifted away from his to mine.
He pushes her out of the way and angrily walks out of his office, she stood there still stunned by his reaction. I cleared my throat pulling her out of a deep state of mind, she marched over to me gripping my forearm.
« You can observe him and train his heart but you will put him on the top of your list. » She growls lowly.
« He just said not to. » I snapped back.
« Because if you don’t. »
She reaches inside her pocket pulling out a gun, she placed it under my chin. My body shivered in fear and my eyes fluttered rapidly.
« I’ll fucking kill you. » She seethe.
I gulped, this bitch was crazy. A part me was happy that she was forcing me to stay, this man intrigued me by just a simple sentence, a simple action.
Why doesn’t he want to live ? Is the question that is currently flooding my mind.
« If I’m going to stay here I need all my equipments and my clothes. » I told her her with my chin held high, I was trying my best not to show fear.
« Done. » Diana says.
« One more thing, I want my cat to live here with me. »
Diana had the same men that tossed me in the back of her van bring up my suitcases and my cat. Rybka was definitely curious about his new surroundings, he jumped on the rail near the window to do his daily sunbathing. I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned around thinking it was Diana but to my surprise it was one of the bulky men.
« I’m Jamie. »
He held his hand out for me to shake, I glanced down at his rough hand that had cigarette burns all over.
« Nimfa. » My soft hand took his, he gave my hand a little shake before pulling away.
His hair was short and perfect styled and he had brown glasses on indicating he must be blind without them, he seemed normal compared to everyone else but you should never judge someone on looks. I turned back around to unpack more of my belongings, I could feel him staring at me still.
« Diana wanted me to show you around. » He told me.
I dropped my clothes and looked out the window next to me trying to calm my nerves.
« That would be amazing. » I said.
He walked out first and I slowly followed behind him, I tried my best keeping my head down not wanting to draw to much attention to myself but everything seemed to call out to me. I noticed that he came to a stop so I gently lifted my head up to look around, my jaw almost dropped opened by how beautiful this room was.
It was filled with paintings and sculptures, my legs carried me deeper into the room.
« Laurie spends most his time in here. » Jamie says as my finger tips feel the art, I was in awe by the art.
« Did he paint them ? » I asked. I was curious, he didn’t look like the painting type.
« Of course not, Ms. Fraser did. »
My head turned, confusion was clearly presented on my face.
« He’s married ? » I mumbled.
« She passed away about two years ago. » Jamie looked oddly saddened by it, he must’ve been close to her.
That could be a reason why he doesn’t seem keen on surviving, it’s pretty romantic if you ask me. Him wanting to end his life to be with the love of his life even when it hurts the people who love him here on earth.
I pushed away that feeling and moved along, Jamie showed me the kitchen, the dinning room, and finally we made it outside. The garden was beautiful and filled with life, this isn’t a house, it’s a mansion.
