« That feeling of pulling your blanket over your head in the middle of the night because of what lingers in the darkness, shivers crawl up your back. » He says.
« Sometimes you even pull your feet up so they don’t dangle off the bed because anyone could pull them. »
He watches my reaction but I was frozen with fear, my eyes fell to his neck and I found a silver cross necklace dangling. He caught on and quickly grabbed the silver and shoved it under his shirt, away from my vision.
« I’m that feeling. I’m the bogeyman, angel. » He said, his voice sounding neutral.
I gulped quietly, his eyes fell on my throat making me even more nervous. His hand suddenly slapped against my arm, there was a very hard pitch and my eyes looked down to find a syringe hanging out of my arm.
« What is that ? » I stuttered.
« Something to help you sleep better. » He whispered, his voice sounded almost calming but very distant like he was miles and miles away.
I shake my head gently, I wanted to say something but I couldn’t. My tongue was starting to feel numb, and my eyes felt heavier along with my head. Everything was becoming blurry, his hand pulled the needle out and placed it on the nightstand. He stood up and very easily adjusted my body so I could lie down on the bed, and my eyes started closing.
The dark sky was shining inside the window next to the bed, I must’ve slept through the whole day. There was a piece of paper on my nightstand with a bag of clothes on the floor, my eyes scanned over the letter.
‘Take a shower, and meet me downstairs – A’
I grabbed the bag before carefully standing up, my head was slightly spinning. I walked to the bathroom before closing the door and locking it, my chest was heaving up and down in pure confusion. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my blonde hair appeared messy and my skin was very fair.
This was the first time I looked at myself, of course, I didn’t recognize anything.
My fingers touched my cheeks, it was weird being in my body but not entirely sure who I am exactly. The warm water filled my hair and coated my dirty skin, it felt amazing and surprisingly relaxing. I held my breath as I shoved my head under the water, my fingers ran through my hair with a painful swirl inside my stomach.
I stepped out of the shower with my towel wrapped around my body, my hair was dripping down my back. I grabbed the clothes inside the bag, there was a sheer white dress along with black undergarments. I quickly got dressed, my hand swiped across the foggy mirror making myself clearer. There was a bloody scar running down the side of my forehead, my fingers gently touched the snitches.
Ouch
I walked out of the bathroom and out of the room, the hallway had lights that found power in the fire. I followed where the natural light was coming from, my feet carefully carried me down the stairs. A huge table sat beside the kitchen, there were a few desert flowers as decorations sitting across the table.
Right when I walked into the room that’s when he walked in with a beer hanging loosely in his fingers, his hair was tousled very neatly if that’s possible. His black suit was unbuttoned along with his sleeve cuffs, his tie was hanging freely around his neck. He sat down across far from me, his eyes didn’t even spare me a glance.
« Are you just going to stand there like a fucking statue ? » He said, bluntly.
I shake my head, my brain couldn’t put together words right now. I sat down, my eyes couldn’t help but stare at his dangerous beauty. The plate in front of me held a juicy steak with a green sauce on top along with some colorful carrots, it looked super fancy and good.
I causally started eating, I was practically starving at this point.
« Are you not going to eat ? » I asked, I couldn’t help but notice the missing plate in front of him.
He took a sip of his beer, and his eyes finally locked onto mine. « I don’t eat. » He replied.
« Like at all ? »
There was a certain annoyance in his eyes, I realized that I was subconsciously admiring his hands. They were huge and his fingers had on a few rings but non of them were wedding bands, his dark ink tattoos had a weird pattern on his hand but it just made him more attractive.
« I eat other things. » He hummed quietly, his words sent shivers down my back.
I didn’t respond, his eyes did all the talking for him. There was something about him that was so unsettling, the bags he carried under his eyes indicated he was desperate for sleep.
« Thank you for your hospitality. » I said, my voice clearly shaky.
He makes me nervous, his eyes stare at me with a look I wasn’t familiar with. A beautiful, dangerous grin appeared on his lips. My hands grew sweaty, and my lips slightly quivered at his dangerous demeanor.
« I wanna propose something to you, angel. » He takes another sip of his beer.
My brow shot up with curiosity, and he carefully stood up with his hand inside his front pocket. I straightened my back with my head held high, he was standing in front of me with his bottom half leaned against the table.
« Which is ? »
« Be my business partner. » He said with no hesitation whatsoever.
I almost laughed till I realized he was being serious, and my hands fell onto my lap. His height hovered over me so much it made me feel tiny, I wonder if he has that effect on everyone.
« You just met me, you don’t know a thing about me. » I said, which is true. I could be a psychopath trying to take over his business, an undercover job taker.
« True but I do know that you’d look nice standing beside me. » He said with a shrug of his shoulder, he said so casually like it was no big deal. « People fear me but they’ll learn to fear you as well. »
« I don’t want to be feared, I want to go home. » I said.
Alistair moved his hand from his pocket before touching his fingers to the table, he leaned over just a little making my anxiety even worse. « You don’t know where home is, if you do this for me then I’ll ensure you, I’ll help you find your past. »
« My past ? It just became my past a week ago. »
« Sometimes the brain has a funny way of hiding trauma, that home you’re searching for might not actually be a home. » He said. « You’re searching for something that doesn’t exist, it’ll never exist. »
For some reason that triggered me, I found myself leaning in as well. « This dinner is over with. » I gritted my teeth together, my eyes were livid.
His jaw clenched along with both his hand clamping in a fist allowing his knuckles to turn white, a dry chuckle escape from his lips. « You’ll join my side, I fucking guarantee it. »
His side ? I wasn’t aware there were sides to this at all. I carefully stood up pushing my chair back, he looked like a lunatic. Whatever he had in his system was making him act this way, he wasn’t this aggressive the last time.
« We’ll see about that, Alistair. » I whispered, his name felt so right coming from my mouth it was strange.
