Her head fell back against my arm, she was unconscious again. A single tear rolled down her cheek, my thumb swiped under her eye-catching it. She was already a mess before crashing her vehicle dressed in a wedding dress, she might’ve been running from someone.
I don’t know who she is but something deep down inside of me is telling me that she’s important, and most importantly innocent.
The feeling of warmth beneath my fingers, and the craving for water woke me up. My eyes met the white ceiling above me, the sunlight leaking from the window provided some sort of light inside the room. My eyes drifted down to my blonde hair laying against my shoulder, and the white button-up that I am wearing.
I sat up, the shirt was way too big for my body and fitted me like an oversized blanket. There was a needle inside my arm, my eyes followed the cord to a clear bag filled with a clear substance. I tried yanking it out but it hurt to even touch it, my arm was throbbing.
« I wouldn’t do that if I were you. » A voice next to me said, he sounded grating and overbearing.
My eyes meet a pair of green ones, his eyes were like a world of dark green wonders. His black hair was short but slightly curly, his skin looked like it was sun-kissed with facial hair and he was muscular. He had on a white wife beater with black slacks, a cross necklace dangling around his neck, and a few tattoos covering his arms and neck, he had on a few rings nothing too big.
His pupils were dilated, super dilated and there were also purple bags under his eyes.
« Where am I at ? » I asked, my mind was fuzzy and nothing seemed familiar about myself.
His eyes stared me down, they were intimidating and felt heavy on my body.
« On my bed. » He said, very blunt.
I looked around a bit better, the room was very minimal and covered in the color white with a few pieces of black furniture. The room felt like a museum, there was no sight of decoration or intimacy like a room should have.
« You were in a car accident, your vehicle flipped down a hill outside my house. » He said.
I don’t remember any of that, I don’t even remember my appearance just that I have blonde hair and my name but that’s it.
« How long was I asleep for ? »
« A week. » He responded, his eyes trailing very slowly up and down my body.
I inhaled deeply, I’d been asleep for a week without any knowledge of who I am. This is a lot to take in, my fingers tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear getting flustered with everything including the gorgeous man in front of me.
There was something about him that screamed danger but also in the same sense there was a feeling of warmth swirling inside his eyes, it was a strange feeling.
« I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name ? »
« Alis. » He answered very short leaving no room for a conversation, it must be a nickname or maybe that’s his actual name.
I was going to question him further but I decided not to, he seemed very closed off about it.
I cleared my throat slightly. « By any chance, do you know my name ? » I asked.
Alis tightened his lips together, his jaw flexed just a little. It was weird how just a name made him uncomfortable like he doesn’t like identification. He stood up reaching inside his back pocket, my eyes carefully watched him pull out a necklace. He slowly walked towards me, my body was on high alert as he stood only a few inches from me. He smelt like rose cedarwood with a hint of orange, it was a smell I could get used to.
His eyes practically pointed at my blonde hair, and my fingers wrapped around a handful of my hair before holding it up. Is he gifting me this necklace ? He’s not saying anything but just motioning. His hand gently placed the gold necklace around my neck, and his finger brushed against my chin causing my body to shiver and he noticed how my body reacted to his. He pulled away right when he felt my skin, almost like my skin was poisonous to him.
I looked down at the necklace, it had a name. It’s a girl’s name and for some reason, it sounded familiar, it was my name.
« It was around your neck when I found you. » He said.
« That’s all I had on me ? »
He quietly shakes his head. « You had more but my people have to go through everything before you could get any of it back. »
« Have to go through it ? »
« Yes, I have no idea who you are, who you work for, who’s your family. » He replied, In the last part his tone changed to a darker one.
Family is a touchy subject for him it sounds like.
« My family, why on earth would you need to know who my family is ? »
« Blood is thicker than water, and some last names come with a price. » His voice was deeper, and no longer soft but serious.
That sounded dangerous, more like wicked. His demeanor switched to a dark one and it was concerning, my memory might be gone but I wasn’t stupid. He sounded like someone who has enemies, not normally enemies but ones he has to background check everyone next to him. I slowly and silently crawled back on the bed, his eyes no longer lingering over mine as he turned around forcing my harsh eyes to land on his back.
I’m starting to get the feeling he was trying to get information out of me, hoping I’d remember something about myself.
« Who really are you ? » My voice was slightly shaky, I had no weapon, I have no idea where am at or no memory.
I am beyond screwed.
His hand fell back inside his pockets, his head fell back while he looked at the blank ceiling. « Who am I ? That’s a question I get so often. » He said, quietly.
« I’m Alis, Alistair, the reaper’s son, the devil’s grandson. » He whispered, there was a faint chuckle after his sentence. « It’s all bullshit so I had to make a name for myself, and step out from their shadows. »
« Into my own shadows. »
He slowly turned back around, his head lowered to meet my eyes. His eyes make me want to run away and hide, that’s how intimidating this man is.
« Do you really want to know who I am ? » He asked.
I nod my head, my eyes holding questions as my body held caution.
He removed his hands from his pockets and sat at the end of the bed right across from me, I tucked my legs against my chest fearing his closeness. He was facing me with his shoulders back and his head held high, his chest was moving up and down slowly while concentrating on his face.
