Chapter 4
For the past few days that Lorenzo spent in the hospital, Isabella has always kept him company during her free time. None of Lorenzo's family visited for once and Isabella could not help but wonder why. A young lady did visit him once but that turned out to be one of his friends. Isabella later found out that the young lady was also his consigliere which only meant one thing, even after five years had passed, Lorenzo is still a mafia boss.
Today is Saturday and Lorenzo will be leaving the hospital. He invited Isabella to a fancy restaurant, he wanted to express his gratitude to her before leaving the hospital and Isabella gladly accepted because she wanted to get closer to Lorenzo by all means.
Isabella stares at herself in the broken mirror, she strikes a few poses in front of the mirror and pouts. Isabella winks at the mirror and spins in her white off-shoulder floral dress that surpasses her knees. Isabella grabs her purse and slowly catwalks out of her house. She shuts the door behind her and is about to lock the door when her ringing tone blares out loud. Isabella sighs, she fetches her phone out of her purse and glares at the caller ID. It is a call from an unknown number, Isabella feels reluctant because she assumes that it might be Matteo playing tricks on her but at the same time Isabella knows how dangerous it would be to keep ignoring him. She picks the phone call and presses it close to her ears.
"Isabella De la Cruz. I did not expect you to pick my call." Matteo's loud voice blares through the speaker. Isabella's palms become sweaty and her heart skips a bit.
"Matteo, pleasure to hear from you again. How have you been?" Isabella feigns confidence. She clears her throat and braces herself for what Matteo is about say or what warning he is about to give.
"I have been good Isabella De la Cruz. It looks like you have been doing pretty well too." Matteo says with a light chuckle. Isabella scrunches her brows in confusion. Her eyes roam around searching for any sight of Matteo and his boys but she does not catch a single glimpse of them.
"What do you mean by that?" Isabella asks, her heart races fast in fear but she tries to reassure herself by reminding herself that Matteo and his boys would never pull a stunt, at least not in broad daylight or in front of a bunch of people. Even if they tried, they probably would not get away with it.
"You look really stunning in your dress Isabella. Are you going on a date? With who darling?" Matteo whispers in the coldest tone ever. Isabella gulps a lump down her throat. She clenches her fist tight and whispers softly over the phone "What do you want from me Matteo? Your money? You will get it."
Matteo laughs hysterically "When Isabella? You have been telling me that ever since you moved to Italy. Give me a specific date, when and what time do you plan to return my money?" Matteo yells over the phone. Isabella pulls the phone away from her ear and places her hand on her chest to release a heavy sigh.
"My goodness, Matteo, my ears could have gone deaf!" Isabella yells at him. She runs a hand through her hair and groans in frustration.
"Did you just yell at me Isabella De la Cruz? Did you just seriously yell at me?" Matteo yells over the phone. He cusses under his breath and hangs up. Isabella's heart races fast in fear and she suddenly regrets ever letting her anger get the best of her. Isabella knows that Matteo will have his revenge on her because she yelled at him.
She tosses her keys into her purse and walks away from her apartment. Isabella boards a cab to the restaurant. She meets Lorenzo standing outside leaning on a car. He crosses his arms and legs while staring at his phone. Isabella gets off the cab and pays the cab man. She slowly walks towards him and taps his shoulder from behind. He turns around to gaze at Isabella. His eyes settle on Isabella and a smile appears on his face.
"Isabella, you look really stunning. Did you have to dress this pretty just for me?" Lorenzo asks wriggling his brows at her playfully. Isabella can not help but force a smile on her face so she does not appear suspicious in front of Lorenzo. Isabella can not stop thinking about Matteo and what he has in mind for her this time around.
"Let us go on in. The treat is mine." Lorenzo intertwines his hands with hers and leads her into the restaurant. The restaurant is small yet cozy. Although it is empty of customers and the only people lurking around are waiters and waitresses. Isabella scrunches her brows in confusion and turns to Lorenzo.
"Why does the place look so empty? Do not tell me that they barely get customers because this place pretty much looks like a cool place." Isabella says with curiosity written on her face. Lorenzo shrugs and says nonchalantly "I bought the place for today. Just for you and I."
Isabella gasps, she breaks free from his grip on her hand and stares at him in disbelief.
"You did what? Oh my goodness, please tell me I did not just hear you say that you bought the place." Isabella yells at him earning glares from the workers in the hotel.
"Well you just heard me right, Isabella. Yes, I bought the place for today. Just for you and I." Lorenzo says with a smirk playing on his lips.
"Wait, why? Why the hell did you do that Lorenzo? We could have just eaten like any normal person would do at a restaurant." Isabella says shaking her head in disbelief at how Lorenzo does not have the slightest value for money.
"I did just so you and I could talk. I have something to tell you."
