Eve
We arrived at their pack four hours after we left the hotel.
It took less than they told me. Maybe because Rhys drove like he was being chased.
To my surprise, their pack wasn’t as small as I thought it would be.
Yes, it wasn’t even close to the size of the Nightstand pack but it was big enough to fit ten apartments and by extension at least ten to twenty pack members if they all have mates.
“Take me to the pregnant woman!”
I told them as soon as the car came to a stop.
“Take her to your sister.”
Axel told Rhys who nodded and got out of the car.
I did too.
“Where is he going?”
I asked Rhys when Axel broke into a run as soon as he got out of the car.
“To see the pack members who were badly affected.”
He revealed.
I wanted to go with him and see if I could help them.
Heck, I know I can help them but if I heal them, they will ask questions and I don’t want them to know I have powers.
“Take me to your sister.”
I told him and he led the way to a house which wasn’t too far from the one where the car had stopped.
He knocked on the front door and a very distressed-looking man came out of the house.
He looked so scared.
“What happened? Where is Ella?”
Rhys asked the man who looked close to tears.
“I don’t know what to do, she is going have the baby but the midwife says she is too weak. I don’t know what to do to help!”
He let out.
“Let me see her.”
I told him and he finally looked at me.
I saw the questions in his eyes but he didn’t ask them.
“I help deliver babies too.”
I assured him.
He looked at Rhys who nodded and just that one nod made the man lead us into the house.
As soon as we entered, the scream of the woman filled the whole house.
“Wait here!”
I told Rhys when he tried to follow us into the room that his sister was in.
He might be her brother but that doesn’t mean he was allowed to see her.
Thankfully, he listened to me.
I pushed the door open and saw her on the bed.
She was wailing and begging the older woman with her to let her go.
Her mate rushed to her side and burst into tears.
It broke my heart to see him crying for her.
It didn’t take much to realize that he loves her a lot. Lucky her.
“I am a midwife too.”
I told the older woman who looked like she was about to give up.
“I don’t know what else to do for her. I have done everything and we have been at it for hours. Even before the pack was attacked.”
She told me.
“Did they get here?”
I asked her and she shook her head.
“We locked ourselves in.”
I nodded and walked closer to Ella who had gone quite but that wasn’t a good sign.
It just showed that she was starting to lose herself.
I had to figure out a way to help her.
I checked the state of the baby and it wasn’t looking good either.
I soon figured out what was wrong with her.
They may care for each other but their bond was weak.
Too weak for her to be pregnant with his child.
“Is she marked?”
I asked her mate who nodded.
Usually, when women manage to get marked without being marked, the delivery of the baby becomes really difficult.
This one was marked but it was obvious that their bond wasn’t strong enough.
“What are you?”
I was forced to ask the man who looked at me in confusion.
“I am asking what you are! Your bond isn’t strong enough and that’s why she can’t have your baby!”
I told him.
He looked defeated.
Another reason she couldn’t have his baby might be if he isn’t fully wolf.
In that case, he has to mark her again to complete their mating bond and strengthen it.
“What are you?”
I yelled when he still didn’t say anything.
“A panther.”
I gasped and so did the midwife.
He wasn’t even a hybrid but a full panther and he mated with a wolf?
That’s unheard of and going by the reaction of the midwife, no one knew.
Their reason for keeping his identity a secret was pretty obvious seeing as their pack just got attacked by some panthers.
Panthers aren’t supposed to mate with wolves.
It’s forbidden. We are sworn enemies and never mix and that’s why even though he marked her and clearly loves her a lot, their bond still wasn’t strong enough.
They probably didn’t think it could be a problem.
I looked at the poor woman and she was sobbing and holding on to her mate.
I knew I had to help them.
