Chapter Two
Evan's POV
Oh my Goddess, I was in so much pain. I groaned as I tried to sit up on my bed.
My body was covered in bruises, new and old and I had cuts all over my arms, chest and abdomen. I heal far slower than most other wolves due to being an Omega, severely underweight as well as the abuse my body have had to endure almost daily. I am always getting into trouble when I speak up against Alpha Mason.
Usually it's just a beating or extra chores on top of my already massive workload, but sometimes, well sometimes he wants something extra. I shiver in disgust at the thought of it. It hurts me that I won't be pure and whole when I meet my Mate. Instead he will get a broken, used up, good for nothing Mate.
I tear up while thinking about this latest beating. He had caught me helping the Omega that he had almost beaten to death. I’ve always tried to take care of them and clean their wounds. But sometimes it would come at a severe price.
The door to the basement suddenly slams open. "Get up you lazy good for nothing. The Alpha wants to see you." And that, ladies and gentlemen would be the ever pleasant Beta, Dorian (please note my sarcasm). I honestly don't know who is worse between him and the Alpha.
"I will be right there. Let me just clean up quick" I mumble as I try to lift myself off the bed again.
"Well hurry the fuck up. The Alpha doesn't have all day to wait for a little fag piece of shit like you" he spat.
I got up and tried to wash as much blood off as I possibly could under the sorry excuse for a shower I had to use and dressed myself in the rags I had to call clothes.
I hurried upstairs to Alpha's office and knocked on the door. "Come in" he barks out. I open the door hesitantly; peeking round the edge of it "Took you long enough. Do you think I have all the fucking time in the world to sit and wait on you?" He shouts as soon as he sees me.
"Sorry Alpha. I came as soon as I could." I tell him quietly. I bow my neck in submission, hoping he won’t lash out again. As I peeked up, I saw him look at me with pure loathing in his eyes. I could never understand his absolute hatred of me, even though he would still use me for his perversions.
"It seems the Alpha from the Silver Shadow Pack will be coming here in the next few days, looking for his Mate. When he gets here, I want you and the rest of the Omegas out of sight, do you understand me?" he growled out, causing a small whimper of fear to escape my lips, before I was able to answer him.
"Yes Sir. I will keep them with me in the basement. May I go see Doctor Vernon now? I have a rib that doesn’t seem to be healing. I need him to set it straight so it can heal" I ask him, hoping he will agree.
He looks at me with that evil smirk on his face. "Yes you may. But next time, maybe you should think before you interfere when I am punishing one of MY pack members" he growls at me.
"Yes Sir" I hurriedly reply, before scurrying out the door. Even though I know for a fact that it won't be the last time that I step in and end up taking the punishment for another Omega. I might be a weak, pathetic, useless Omega, but I can't stand by and allow the others to get hurt.
I make my way down to the Doctor’s rooms and wait to be called in. "Good morning Evan." Doctor Vernon greets me kindly, as I walk into his office.
"Morning Doc. How are you today?" I respond, trying to smile, but I was in too much pain to make it seem genuine.
"I'm very well, but you don't look too good today. Anything I can help with?" He peers at me over the top rims of his glasses, trying to assess me immediately.
"Yes Doc. I think I have a rib that seems to be broken and it's not healing. So I was wondering if you could help me get it in line so that it can start the healing" I ask him.
He looks at me with pity and shakes his head in sadness. "Yes I can do that Evan, but you need to stop stepping in for the others. He is going to kill you one of these days." Doc says as I lift my shirt up for him to look at my chest.
"I know that, but I can't just sit back and do nothing. I'm just trying to hold on long enough to meet my Mate, then I'm out of here and I will make sure all the other Packs know what kind of monster Alpha Mason actually is". I tell him as he examines my ribs, and sets the one back in line. I breathed out a sigh of relief when the sharp, stabbing feeling went away, leaving only a dull throb.
“Thanks Doc, I really appreciate the help. As for staying out of trouble, I’ll try, but I don’t know if I will succeed.” I give him a small smile as he shakes his head at me and I leave the room, thinking of all the chores I still had to do.
I walk out of the Clinic and run into the only other friend that I have, Nathan. He always tries to help me and look after me. If the Alpha denied me a meal, he would try to sneak some food to me. It doesn't always work, but I appreciate him trying. Or if I get beaten, he usually tries to sneak into my room to clean my wounds and help me into bed.
"Hey Evan. Are you okay? I heard what happened last night. I am so sorry that I couldn't get to you or help you in any way." He says, looking down dejectedly.
"It’s ok Nathan. I'm used to it. And you would just have gotten in trouble if you had tried to interfere" I tell him. He knows it’s the truth, so he just gives me a soft hug.
To lighten the mood I ask him if he heard about the Alpha coming to search for a Mate. Nathan also hasn't found his Mate yet and he desperately wants to meet him/her so he can leave this wretched place.
"Yes I heard. Alpha Mason just told me about him. You apparently have to stay hidden as usual and keep the other Omegas out the way as well" He tells me. He gets an angry look on his face. "He just wants to keep you all hidden so no one will know what a cruel bastard he truly is" he spits out. He hates Alpha Mason for his treatment of us Omegas.
"Anyway, I have my chores to complete Nathan. I will see you later at dinner, ok?" I tell him, not wanting to get into it right now. I knew exactly how cruel the man could be, so I didn’t want to talk about it. Besides, Nathan would just get angry and I was worried that he might say or do something to get himself into trouble.
"Okay, see you later Evan." He tells me, giving me a quick hug before we left in opposite directions.
For the rest of the day, I did my chores and stayed out of the Alpha and Beta’s way. Even though my body felt like a freight train had run over it, I ignored the pain as usual and did what I was supposed to. I got some leftovers for dinner that night and went to bed.
As I was slipping into a deep sleep, I once again saw the beautiful man that has been part of my dreams for weeks now. Six foot, six inches tall, with black hair to his shoulders, tan skin tone and very muscular. But the best part of him was his eyes, a piercing ice blue that looked like they could see right into your soul. Who was this man? And why did I keep dreaming of him?
