Chapter Two

Nina's POV

'Brea you don't have to mask us anymore' I say to her in a very broken and sad voice.

'Alright Nina' She says back before laying her head on her paws whimpering in the back of my mind.

I knew Brea felt the same way as me and I also knew she would always be there for me. I walked into the woods and went to get my duffel bag that I had stashed nearby. When I got my bag I brought it back to where I had parked my car and put it in the passenger seat next to me as I got in and drove away from the fire that used to be my home. I drove through town and into the next town nearby before I got a motel for the night, once in the room I showered and put on some pj's and slept for the remainder of the night.

In the morning I shower and gather my things as I put on some leggings, my ankle boots, and a cropped sweater top. I get into my car and I drive from town to town after town until my car suddenly breaks down. I gather all my belongings from the car and putting what I had bought a few days ago into my bag before putting it over my shoulder as I head into the woods. I don't know where I am and I keep wandering through the thick forest stopping every now and then to eat what little food I had with me and drink some of the water I had packed. After my break I change my shoes from my ankle boots to my running shoes before continuing my journey forward.

I have been wandering around the forest for a few days now and I had run out of food and water 2 days ago. I'm stumbling around tripping on tree roots and my own feet when I suddenly hear a wolf howl nearby. I hear a twig snap and then I caught the scent of the rogue wolf, I start to run away from it as it starts to chase me. I'm running full speed but eventually it pounces on me pinning me to the ground. I struggle underneath it's weight as it's claws sink into my right shoulder making me scream out in pain. The rogue gets off of me and swipes it's paw against my side sending my flying into a nearby tree with so much force I hear my ribs crack from the impact.

My vision is blurred from the tears in my eyes when I suddenly see another wolf attacking the rogue before it gets a chance to attack me and kill me. While they are busy fighting each other I gather the last of my strength and run away from them. I can hear paws thudding behind me getting closer with every stride as my fear takes hold I run with everything I have until I lose my footing and fall down hard rolling down a steep hill and hitting trees and rocks the whole way down. I eventually come to a stop hitting my back and head off of a rock making black spots cloud my vision. Barely being able to keep my eyes open I feel someone coming towards me and lift me up saying that I'm going to be okay before everything goes dark.

Everything around me was dark as I was trying to move my body but it wouldn't do anything I tried to tell it to. I suddenly awoke in a clearing near a cliff and as I sit up looking out at the large lake far below me I see the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life. She looked like moonlight itself with her long white hair flowing down around her, almost like she was underwater and she had the most gorgeous light blue dress that flowed with the shape of her body perfectly making her look so regal and magical

"Who are you?" I ask curiously

"Hello my child I am the mother of all werewolves. I am the Moon Goddess but you can call me Selene." She says as her voice rings out around us very elegantly.

I stare at her for a few moments before asking my next question "Why am I here?"

"You my dear are here because you have questions that only I can answer right now." The Moon Goddess Selene says to me

"Why did that man kill my entire pack just to find me?" I ask as tears streak down my flushed cheeks

Selene comes and hold me as I cry for a little while before she pulls away slightly to answer my question. "My child your parents weren't actually your parents, they were only your guardians. I gave you to them when you were born because you are a very special girl. You are destined for greatness which is why your wolf is so different then any other wolves."

"If they weren't my actual parents then who are my parents? What is so special about me? I haven't even found my mate yet" I tell her confused and frightened.

"Your mother was the previous Alpha Kings mate and when she was 6 months pregnant a pack of rogues attacked their pack and killed your father the Alpha King. Your mother fled and gave birth to you but asked me to take you far away and give you a chance at a better life as she was being hunted for what she was." Selene tells me

"Why was my mother in danger and being hunted?" I asked in confusion

"Your mother was a two-tailed wolf just like you and those kinds of wolves are very rare. Nina you come from a long line of two-tailed wolves who are destined to be the protectors of the next Alpha King" She remarks

"Since my wolf is a two-tailed wolf does that mean that the next Alpha King is out there somewhere?" I question

Selene looks at me with love, "Yes and he will become aware of who he is once you find him and awaken that part of him. Also it is quite common for a protector to be the mate of the Alpha King as their fates are intertwined with one another."

"How will I be able to find him? What happens if I don't find him?" I ask her in wonderment

"Nothing bad will happen to you. Your marks will disappear over time and reappear on the next two-tailed wolf" She says back to me

"How do I find the next Alpha King if there hasn't been one since my father died 18 years ago?" I question as I stare into her gorgeous silver eyes.

"He will have a mark of a two-tailed wolf silhouette on his chest above his heart" Selene informs me before she starts to vanish into the night

I stare at her for a minute before calling out to her "Please don't go Selene I have more questions"

"I have told you everything that I can right now but don't worry your questions will be answered in time. Right now you need to seek out the next Alpha King and I will come to you when you need me the most and don't worry I will always be there looking out for you as I do all my werewolf children." She says before fully vanishing into the night. After the Moon Goddess leaves everything falls away and I plunge into the darkness once again. Slowly I start to wake to the sound of something beeping nearby.
