Chapter I: An Alpha's Premonitions

Arcel.

Laurier Wood, Present Day, Ontario, Canada.

"That dream again," I said aloud. I had been having the same dream for years, and I knew my powers meant something. But what?

In the dream, my wolf and I ran separately yet together through the dense forest. We were happy, but suddenly, everything around me became cloudy, and a large, blurry cloud appeared before us. Two silhouettes appeared behind it: one of a woman and the other of a large wolf. My wolf sniffed the air, and within seconds, he became agitated. He moved from side to side, growling excitedly and nervously.

"Mine!" I heard him shout in my head.

The female wolf was also excited, moving from side to side while occasionally looking at the woman. She remained rigid and motionless as if she weren't tied up. I still couldn't see them; I could only see silhouettes behind a curtain of thick smoke.

"Free her! She is yours, only yours. She is your moon, and I belong to him. Free her, free me, and claim us," the she-wolf said in my mind.

My wolf was beside himself, eager to break through the smoke and free his mate. I ran toward the cloud, but it kept getting farther and farther away. Finally, I woke up.

Even inside me, my wolf was agitated, wanting to fight the cloud that was taking our mate away. The urge to run aimlessly made me agonize. I got up without getting dressed, going out only in shorts, which I would take off before transforming.

I was going down the stairs of the mansion when a voice stopped me.

"Can't you sleep, Élu?" Those dreams again?" I couldn't help but smile. No one in the house called me that except for my great-aunt Alisha, whom I called Mémé.

She was the only person not subject to my Alpha's command. She didn't let anyone know, but she made everyone believe that I was her Alpha. This forced all the witches in her coven to follow my orders without protest.

"Mémé, don't you ever sleep?" I only called her Mémé when we were alone. It meant "grandmother" in Canadian French, and that's what she was to me. She and my cousins were the only family I had left. Mémé also called me Élu, which means "the chosen one," when we were alone.

When my pack and I moved to Canada, following the promise I made to my father, we arrived just as Mémé's coven was being hunted by poachers who wanted the land they protected. We arrived just as the poachers had cornered them in a cabin and were about to kill them by setting the cabin on fire.

We protected the coven and killed the poachers. When we freed them, Mémé came up to me and said,

"I was waiting for you, Élu. I have always waited for you. Now the family is complete." Apparently, my dreams are a legacy from my mother and grandmother. The witches in my grandmother's coven have the power to predict the future because they draw their magic from nature. They are also very connected to nature, and wolves are creatures of nature.

Mémé saw me coming in her dreams. When I arrived, the lives of her coven, the Mesdames de Lefebvre, and the Roter Mord clan would finally be peaceful. We would live in harmony and help each other because the Roter Mord clan's Alpha had Mesdames de Lefebvre blood.

While the clan took care of the coven, they also took care of Laurier Wood, the forest that gave life to the wolves, as well as providing luck for all those who protected the clan and the coven.

One night, I had a vision of creating a company to support the clan and coven financially so that modern life would not destroy our home as it did in Germany. Eight years after we left, World War II broke out, killing many humans and causing many clans to disappear.

When I presented my idea to the old wolves and some of the older sorceresses, they rejected it outright. I had to use my authority as Alpha to convince them.

Mémé obeyed my order as if under the influence of my wolf. This made the other Mesdames de Lefebvre follow their supreme sorceress. When I asked her why she had done so, she simply replied,

"You are Élu. You came to save us. In everything you do, I will follow you. We are your family. If your family doesn't support you, who will?" After many years of study and preparation, Wolf Wagner Lefebvre Ecologists emerged and became known throughout the world as W.W.L. Ecologists.

It is a multinational company that promotes the production and use of natural resources with an emphasis on ecological protection, reforestation, renewable energies, and sustainable food. We have global contracts with different countries to improve and implement ecological reforms and environmental protection.

Almost all the sorceresses, as well as all the wolves in my pack, work for the multinational. This has helped my pack grow.

Other clans in other countries have also joined through blood agreements. These countries include Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The latter clans have joined for the protection of places such as the Amazon in Brazil and Venezuela, as well as six other important forests in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Ecuador.

I am the CEO of W.W.L. Ecologists. Mémé is my executive assistant and Isaak is the vice president and my second-in-command, as in the pack. Despite my achievements, I am not fulfilled or happy with my accomplishments. My inner wolf is not, and these damn premonitions make me see that.

"I'll sleep when I'm dead," Mémé replied to my question. I can't help but smile. My great-aunt was older than time itself, yet she looked to be in her early fifties. Even when she walked down the street, she made many handsome men—mature and not-so-mature—turn to look at her. "Of course, son. Why are you walking around the house like that? You're distracting my young sorceresses, and then they don't perform well at work. That damn habit you wolves have of walking around naked everywhere! For God's sake, even though we are enchantresses, we are also women. You know that, you cheeky werewolf," she said, looking at me and scolding me. As always, she was the only one who could scold me like that, but she never did it in front of others. There, she obeyed my orders like everyone else.

"I'll remind you the next time I catch you sneaking into Dagmar's room. I don't see you protesting much when that old wolf gets naked," I said, laughing. I knew about the romance between Dagmar and Isaak, my beta. Isaak was glad that Mémé had convinced him not to return to Germany to die next to his mother's grave.

When we left Germany, he refused to go. He wanted to die there, close to his wife and Alpha, my father. I had to use my Alpha command to make him obey me. He almost went crazy trying to disobey it. I had to control him for years, preventing him from returning to Germany until his son became my beta and subjected his father to his orders due to his "incapacity." Only Mémé's influence brought that old wolf back to life.

And what a life those two had! They never stopped, and I suspected that the old sorceress wasn't in the living room by chance.

"Will a certain retired beta be able to walk back to work tomorrow?" I asked mockingly.

"And if he can't, then with what he's done tonight, he deserves a rest," she said, laughing.

"Mémé, you know I'm too young to hear certain things," I said, leading her to the door that led to the portal to the protected area of Laurier Wood.

"Don't lie, or I'll wash your mouth out with soap! Do you think we haven't heard about the loud wolf you sometimes take to bed? She's like a port siren; she never shuts up. You know she wants us to know, right? She wants us to know you're having sex. Will you take precautions? Remember that you can only mate with your predestined partner. That's how it is in my dreams. That moon will save us and be a blessing for everyone.

"Mémé, don't talk like that. You're my great-great-grandmother!" I complained.

"Well, you haven't seen me talk to my old wolf. That's really dirty and hot. Plus, it turns him on like crazy with that huge dick..." I couldn't listen to any more. I ran to the door, crossed it, and was almost naked. However, I couldn't let my Mémé have the last word, another one of her witchcraft skills.

"Grandson, find your moon quickly. You're becoming too puritanical. Don't be silly. When you find her in this house, you won't be able to stay because of the amount of pheromones you'll release everywhere. An alpha like you, in love and excited—that's what's sinful," she said. She always had the last word. Damn old witch.

But she was right about that. I had to find my Moon right away; otherwise, my wolf and I would go crazy with frustration, dreaming about her every night but not knowing who she was.

"Come on. We have to release this damn frustration. I don't want to call that she-wolf again. I know you don't like her," I said to my wolf.

In a second, my muscular body transformed into a huge black wolf with big blue eyes like my father's. I didn't waste a second before setting off on a frantic run through our deep, private forest.
