Summary

In a world where ancient wolf clans are dying out, Arcel Wagner—the ruthless Alpha of the German Roter Mord clan—refuses to let his people vanish. Living in Canada, one of the last untouched forests, he blends old pack traditions with modern life, running a global environmental corporation by day… and ruling as a lethal Alpha by night. For centuries, wolves have been losing their fated mates. Packs grow weaker. Clans disappear. But Arcel has waited hundreds of years for his Luna—and he will not let the Moon Goddess deny him. Then, one night at a charity event, he finds her. Elizabet Patrick. An orphan he secretly left at birth to protect her. A human who has no idea she’s a wolf. A woman whose wolf spirit was sealed until she meets her mate. The moment Arcel recognizes her scent, the Alpha snaps. There’s only one option: take her, claim her, awaken her… before anyone else does. But before she becomes his, he must show her the truth— who she is, who he is, and why the fated Luna of the Roter Mord clan can belong to no one but him.

Prologue:

Narrator:

Lauterbach, Germany, 1930.

Arcel moved restlessly outside the cabin, overcome with grief. He didn't need to go inside to know what was happening. His connection with his father and the other members of the pack told him what was happening: his father was dying.

Pain filled his heart, and his inner wolf howled pitifully through the night.

"Alpha, you can come in now. Your father wants to talk to you," he heard a voice say in his head. It was his father's beta, Dagmar Weber. The time had come.

Taking slow steps and trying to maintain his composure as his father had taught him, he entered the wooden cabin, reminding himself of his father's words.

"An Alpha must never show weakness. Arcel, remember that. His pack depends on him, and the pack is everything." His father's teachings were engraved in his heart.

"Alpha," said the men of his clan, bowing their heads in respect to their new leader.

With a nod from Arcel, everyone quickly left the hut, including the beta of the pack. Arcel didn't even need to use the mental connection to give his alpha command. Arcel was the strongest wolf in the pack, even stronger than his father. He was one of the strongest alphas, if not the strongest, of the European clans. He had demonstrated this on more than one occasion in battles between clans over territory.

The modernity that was beginning to take hold in Europe after the Industrial Revolution destroyed the forests necessary for werewolves to live. Many of the witches and wizards who had protected these natural paradises with their magic died or abandoned their protection contracts to work for humans. The humans were truly responsible for the death of the forests that were the packs' livelihood.

This is why the wolves began to fight each other for the remaining territory. It was in one of those fights that his father was mortally wounded. That was why Arcel was now watching him from his bed. His father had barely any strength left and was looking at Arcel with his huge blue eyes, now half-closed.

With a movement, his father silenced the connection. He often did that when he wanted to talk to him as a father, not an Alpha.

"You don't have to be strong in front of me, son. You're going to have enough on your shoulders from now on. For a few seconds, it's okay to cry for your father." Those words were like opening the floodgates of a dam.

Arcel fell to his knees beside his father's bed, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"Father!" he said, bowing his head and resting it against his father's weak body, just as he had done when he was a child.

“I know, and I love you too, my little wolf, but this is the law of life. At least I will die defending my own." Remember that an Alpha's role is to protect and care for his pack.

Your mother understood this, which is why she fought to the end as the Moon of this pack," he said, stroking his son's head.

Arcel's mother was half wolf and half witch. His maternal grandfather was his father's former beta, which was then passed on to him. His maternal grandmother was an Indian sorceress from Canada who came to Europe because she had visions of her predestined partner there. Thus, Arcel's mother, the last Moon of the pack, was not only a werewolf but also had the power to predict the future. In one of her visions, she and Hilda, the partner of the current beta, saw how they would sacrifice themselves to fight for the pack. Several years ago, while her husband and his men were fighting far from the pack's territory, poaching wolves invaded it.

Arcel's mother, Aimeé Wagner, along with the mother of his best friend and the future beta of the pack after his father's death, Isaak Weber, faced the wolves to protect the pack's women and children. They managed to kill all of the wolves, but it cost them their lives. Arcel's father never forgave himself for leaving his wife alone. She was the love of his life, and he knew she was his Moon the day she was born.

From that moment on, Aimeé Wagner's sacrifice set an example for everyone, including her son, of what a moon should be. He wanted nothing less; his moon had to be strong.

"I know, Father. The pack comes first," replied the sad Alpha.

"You must take them to Canada, where your mother's family awaits you. Your grandmother's sisters and your mother's cousins are there. They promised your mother they would protect the pack. They are all sorceresses—very powerful—and their blood runs through your veins. The powers you inherited from your mother confirm this. I'm sorry I couldn't keep the promise I made to your mother, but I couldn't leave her here alone. I must rest by her side. A great war will soon break out. Many of our people and many humans will die. There will be a real slaughter. Your mother foresaw all of this, which is why she made me promise to take you far away. You must always protect our people. Promise me that you will fulfill your mother's wish. I did not fulfill it because of my grief over her loss," said his father, already quite weak.

"I promise you, Father. We will move to Canada, to the land of my mother's family." After his son made this promise, Klaus Wagner smiled. Finally, after exhaling his last breath, he passed away.

Pain dominated the Alpha's heart, but he could not express it. His pack howled loudly at the death of their Alpha and the end of his century-long reign as one of the best Alphas in the European packs.

Toronto, February 2002, Canada.

"But really? Is there no other way? This is very cruel. She's just a baby. She'll grow up without our love," said the werewolf woman, holding a blanket with a newborn baby wrapped inside.

“You know what the witch told us. She's in danger. She can only be saved if she finds her mate. Then, her magnificent inner wolf will reemerge with all her powers. Our daughter, our wife, is special. Many will want to kill her to obtain her powers or use her to harm others. She killed our entire pack to get to our daughter. We cannot let her find her; otherwise, all of us—both wolves and witches—will be in danger. Only her mate can protect her and empower her. One day, she will be able to face her. As the sorceress said, she will have a strong partner who will sacrifice his life for her if necessary. To protect her until she finds him, she has marked her inner wolf, and I have marked her as his. Until then, our daughter will be protected as just another human. Only her mate will know who she truly is. The connection will tell him," said the man as he drove through the streets of Toronto on that dark night.

"But what if he doesn't find her? You know that happens a lot nowadays. There are few wolves with their mates. Ours is exceptional today. She will have to live and die as a human. With her wolf sealed, she cannot be healed if she is injured. She will live without our love," said the woman, crying pitifully as she kissed her daughter's head.

"If that happens, she will be safe. She will have to wait another thousand years for a white wolf with the mark of the moon goddess on her forehead to be reborn. Our daughter will be able to live her life, but she will feel incomplete, as if something is missing. However, she will be safe,” said the werewolf, his expression marked by concern, although hope was also visible. He knew his daughter would survive, and that was enough.

"But why do we have to leave her in an orphanage? Why can't we run away with her? She'll grow up without her parents' love, with strangers," said the woman, tears streaming down her face.

"You know, my beloved wife, she knows your scent. She will search for us all over the world until she finds us. You know she always finds us. Now, because of the spell cast on us, our scent is suppressed. Soon, though, it will disappear, and our daughter will only smell like a human. We must leave her soon and get as far away as possible so she won't find us,” said her husband, his face serious.

"But I haven't even given her a name. Are we going to give her away like that, without a name? As if she had never been loved?” said the woman, looking at her husband.

"Let's at least give her a name since she can't bear our family name," said her father, smiling at his wife as he parked in front of the building where their daughter would live for a few years, unaware of who she was and the danger she was in.

"Elizabet, like our queen, since she will be a queen among wolves," said his wife. The man smiled, took his daughter from his wife's arms, hugged her, and kissed her on the forehead.

"Well, Elizabeth, you must grow up strong, my daughter. Your mother and I will always think of you, but you are more important than us. If we survive, we will see each other again when you are older. For now, live for us. We love you, precious wolf," her father said before giving her to her mother for one last hug.

She hugged and kissed her through her tears. In fact, she hadn't stopped crying. As a mother, she felt as if a part of her had been torn away—the most important part: her heart. Finally, she handed her over to her husband. He got out of the car, climbed the stairs to the building, and took her to the storage room where he kept the children who had been handed over.

He placed his daughter inside and, before turning the receptacle to ring the bell, kissed her one last time. His tears were those of an Alpha for the loss of his offspring.

"We will always be with you, Elizabeth." With that, he turned the box around, rang the bell, ran to his car, and drove away quickly. He left behind the most important being in their lives.

Kodiak Archipelago, October 2002, Alaska.

"I've finally found you! You thought you could always run away from me, you fools!" That voice came from behind them. They had run all over the islands, fleeing from her. But there was little left to run to, so there they were, at the top of the cliff. The alpha stood between her and his wife. He was prepared to defend her to the death, but he also knew that if they were caught alive, she could force him to reveal every last thought, against his will.

In their wolf form, the couple looked at each other and knew what they had to do. Their daughter came first, so they turned toward the cliff and jumped at the same time. As they fell toward the rocks by the sea, they heard a loud growl. She was not happy, so they both smiled and joined their paws together before crashing and dying among the rocks. It was all for their daughter, all so that Elizabeth would be safe until her mate found her and protected her for the rest of her life.
